When I was a kid in the 70s, I thought Hot Wheels were low quality, I preferred Matchbox. Dinky toys were my favorites but those were way pricey. Definitely was a good Bday or Xmas if I got a Dinky toy.

It’s less an issue that this is how they did this and more an issue of how they’re presenting it to shareholders and the public.
The reality is that it’s a practical effects show, a circus act intended to look cool, but would be understood as entertainment.
The message that Tesla/Elon are selling to the public is this this is just a small taste of what this car can currently do and that this is going to become a real commercial product.
They’re doing the magic rope trick, and then offering to sell people the magic rope for $250,000.

I will never not be shocked that people are convinced that things like this are genuine and real. Imagine believing that this is a stepping stone towards flying cars.
