Good shit everyone. Have a safe drive home, call an Uber if you're too intoxicated, make sure you drink some water when you get home to rehydrate, and sleep soundly. See you all in the next megathread

I actually really liked the faction warfare there. The point of Will forming his own stable was to counter bullshit like that. And to beat back the bullshit, you need to show the bullshit to then counter it.
However I do not like the kicking out of successive finishers. If not for that I love the match. But I enjoyed everything else but that.
As for the rest of the show, I thought that Pac/ Andrade not being omfgwtfamazing followed by Borden getting hurt followed by Dani Luna being put in such a bad spot and not being known enough to overcome the slump was rough.
But everything after that was pretty much top notch minus a few small critiques. Looking forward to Weds

For the people on here who love bragging about how smart they are you guys sure don’t seem to get basic storytelling lmao

I'm the wrong person to ask. I don't think he's a main event player and should be strictly in the TNT title/mid card tbh

My first AEW PPV and it was absolutely incredible. Been watching for the last 50 years. The wife and I are being held emotionally hostage by WWE. and this was just so refreshing to see an actual wrestling show. they made 2 new fans tonight they did.

Welcome to the Sickos, we have women's street fights and Fuck Ice chants. Pull up a chair.

You should def check out All In! But yeah man, what a show! The only thing i hate about AEW PPV's is that they get me so amped up it's hard to get to sleep afterwards lol

u/MrApocFunk 21d ago
This is all Death Rider Mox ever wanted. For MFs to fight for the AEW Title like it means more than everything else.

u/GRTooCool 21d ago
Still got 2 months until Blood and Guts. I guess Ilja is debuting in Orlando for WrestleDream or something at this point.

u/Sufficient_Mud_2237 21d ago
When Dragunov coming. Waiting for Paris? Thought this PPV would have been the perfect place.

u/Particular-Wine 21d ago
Way to overbooked for what should have just essentially been a very good wrestling match.
3
u/Deadtaor33 21d ago
No bad thing at All Out!?!?!
Something big going down on Dynamite.
Great show. Off to bed.

Lmfao so they just shrug off all the damage they did at the end to fist bump.
The rest of the PPV was great.

No Ilja, that's odd

u/KirbyStarWarrior42 21d ago edited 21d ago
Tbh, I can't really think of a fitting place in the card for him to debut aside from MAYBE after Tommaso vs Okada

are all of you just wwe folks who have only watched wrestling for the past 5 years? "Bloodline"-esqe...brother overbooking has been around forever, they didn't invent it. and people have always complained about it even though it is necessary for balancing storylines / a roster
1
u/ProfessorCoochie 21d ago
i’m cool with this argument if the sentiment from aew and their hardcore fans was not that they are unique because they don’t do BS like that. idk i loved the show but i do see why people have issues with it.
8
u/SpectacleG 21d ago
People complaining about Super Osprey kinda need to realize...Mox has been booked as the AEW "final boss" for years now. Does this end the Death Riders for good? Probably not, but they needed to wrap up the plot of Mox needing people in the locker room with actual skill, wherewithal, and guts to be able to push their limits. Mox hasn't found anyone like that since he started that gimmick two or three years ago. This is the final blowoff for that and it kinda had to be an exceptional mess to fit the "against all odds" thing Mox wanted to see out of an AEW champion.
6
u/Chad1888 21d ago
I love how they played with the tension of Mox winning.
It wouldn’t make sense for Ospreay to have such a short reign, but Mox very rarely loses. So you can really play with the dread of them giving it to Mox.
And the finish of having Mox be happy about getting beat because it reinforces in his head that he made the right choice of who to build up as champion.
Love it.

u/GalactusAteMyPlanet Gotcha! TABLE was caught! 21d ago
Moxley definitely going to get attacked by Pac, the voice of reason within the Death Riders.

sad to see no ijla but can’t be upset from my own fantasy booking. what a phenomenal show

...i straight up thought moxley collapsed there. not like "roll out of the ring" collapsed but collapsed collapsed

u/blingera 21d ago
we been waiting on DeathRiders to kill Mox for almost a year now. maybe it happens

Yep. Even a bad AEW PPV is well worth the money, but if I had to rank then this would be near the bottom of the last 10-15

Kind of overbooked but the ending was a much better version of that dumbass John Cena retirement match ending. I still cringe every time I see the picture of Cena smiling in the sleeper hold.

u/Hvitrulfr Gave All My Energy To Kenny 21d ago
The entire purpose of the interference and stuff in this match was to establish who UE would be going forward. Some of yall really lack critical thinking skills.
1
u/Commercial_Arm2921 21d ago
I thought that was obvious and was surprised to see so many people disappointed with it or not get that.
0
u/paranoidata 21d ago
I liked it but the "fighting spirit / constantly kick out of finishers" was just done last month. Still fun.
2
u/Dinobot2_ 21d ago
Hey how did Marina get back at ringside? Did she shake off both of the Brawling Birds on her own?
7
u/geroph 21d ago
Do you want your babyface champ to look like he is the baddest, most resilient guy in the whole company? That's kind of how you do it. Have him kick out of everything this side of a building dropping on him and then win vs his biggest remaining opponent against all odds. Super overbooked and don't do it often but it works here.
7
u/Cameherejust4this 21d ago
Mox's ironic laugh was so much better executed than Cena's little smile before tapping. That was Comedian laughing before going out the window in Watchmen levels of good.
Mox might not be the greatest grappler, but his psychology is top tier.
3
u/TommenSucks 21d ago
Pretty sure this means some sort of anarchy in the Arena/Blood and Guts type match happens at WrestleDream and opens the door for a Thekla and Mercedes main event

It's good but not perfect or outstanding. It's still an excellent main event title match though.

Ospreay doing a terrible job of making it look like this match took anything out of him lol he's looking fresh as fuck
3
u/DezmondVulpin 21d ago
I'll accept the overbooking if it means that this was the end of the DeathRider Moxley era.
6
u/mikro17 21d ago
Literally part of the build was "You can have the Death Riders at ringside this time" and people didn't expect interference?
We also furthered Ospreay's new United Empire as part of the same aspect of the match.
1
u/Commercial_Arm2921 21d ago
Yeah, when he said that and also mentioned how he wanted to expand the United Empire in AEW, I actually expected we'd get something like this. I do think that maybe they could have tightened up the interferences, or not have him kick out of so many finishers, but I still thought it was a really great match overall.

u/1Glitch0 21d ago
I would have simply rolled out of the ring if I knew Ospreay was about to kill me if I turned around.

u/DarkFalcon49 Yuta and Francesco Akira Fan Club Leader 21d ago
I really liked this match. I haven’t seen a match like this is AEW in like forever and it made it so fun. All the run ins helped add to the overall feeling of Osprey possibly losing. Less is more, and so little AEW matches are this overbooked. And it worked because of that fact
3
u/TheNess03 21d ago
You can tell Moxley loves old school pro wrestling because whenever I watch his matches I feel like I’m watching stuff from the 80s but with a modern spin.

u/TheStarCore 21d ago
Omega still sells like mad when he does his kick outs at one, Ospreay needed a bit more there after the 3 fucking DDTs
1
u/powatwain 21d ago
This was going to be a Sports entertainment kind of match, because of the story
Way too many people expecting a humper
1
u/fane_above_all The Goldilocks Shelton Benjamin 21d ago
did moxley break a tooth?
6
u/Adept-Lazer-5382 21d ago
A while ago. He never got it fixed probably because it makes him look tougher
3
3
u/Deathstroke317 21d ago
Normally I hate matches with alot of interference like that, but it worked here.
4
u/octoroach 21d ago
Osprey is Superman apparently, who beats him after he kicked out of all that?
1
u/Raleldor_Jax 21d ago
Yeah. When someone kicks out of the statement maker string of finishes, I'm like, "huh... ok bruv..."
3
6
u/TLKv3 Fantasy Book For ^Vote 21d ago
I hope for the rest of the year none of Ospreay's World Title defenses have anymore interferences and he can retain it a few times cleanly on his own.
I'm OK with it happening with Mox & the Deathriders. But there should be nobody else challenging him that requires it for at least the next 3-4 Title defenses.

What are the tepurcussipns with Moxley coming TK terms with his Death Rider ways being overcome.

u/Big_Track_6734 21d ago
Main Event felt like all the things I hate about WWE. The story was Will and Mox. Man to Man. Didn't need Spon Con and gaga.
1
u/CarolinaChaos_ 21d ago
The story’s been Osprey vs Death Riders. The main reason he’s put together the United Empire, which is why all of that in the main event made sense.

2
u/corndogs88 21d ago
People so conflicted about the match, it was solid storytelling and a great finish for these two
1
u/NesNobnaz 21d ago
It was a very WWE way to handle it, not as an insult, but they use it so much that I can get why it would bleed into it being annoying elsewhere for people who watch both. A bit of it is also "This is why I stopped watching WWE, I don't need it here."

u/fttxdd666 21d ago
That shit got a little weird and very WWE with the interference, but glad Ospreay won. Def felt like a 2025 Mox match and shouldn't be the standard Ospreay match going forward at least.
2
u/Particular-Wine 21d ago
Commentary absolutely killed that finish wtf - they should have stayed quiet, we aren’t idiots.

3.75* for me. The bloodline-esque overbooking and constant finisher lockouts took me out of it.

Moxley loves his bloodline bs style too much lol. Match was still great but could have been better straight up

That would've been such a cool ending without all the dumb shenanigans that happened in the mkmitee before it.

That was solid. I do think Ospreay kicking out of 4 paradigm shifts was a little overkill. But I loved all the run ins and mini feuds.
