Announcement Locking old threads. Thoughts?

So far, I've left old threads unlocked, partly out of laziness, and partly because I thought people got a kick out of sometimes commenting on old posts.

Unfortunately, it seems to be increasingly used by raging assholes who want to come into the sub to start fights or troll with racist dog whistles. I'm kinda tired of it. There might even be a lot more out there that I can't even see because they aren't replying to ME directly.

What do YOU, the actual human beings of this sub, think? If there is legit enjoyment from reasonable people I'll leave them open, but if nobody cares I'm locking some down to save me the headache.

[edit] Seems that people do enjoy the threads so I'm going to keep them as-is. However, if you have anyone trolling your old replies, PLEASE report them. I'd rather have false positives reported than be totally unaware. Hard to see activity on old threads.

Personally, I just found this sub a couple months ago and have posted a couple times and even gotten some replies from older posts, so I it’s worth it to keep them available. I’m doing a rewatch basically as an adult. I last watched all these as child and it’s interesting to see them from an older perspective.

There were a few people writing angry responses to me, but I guess I don’t mind. I sometimes get positive comments too. Although some people abuse it, I think it’s good to leave the threads open because that way the old comments can remain more relevant.

Dude you’re the GOAT!!! I have loved reading your reviews of DS9 episodes as I’ve been watching the series for the first time!

Thanks! Good to know someone read that stuff and got something out of it.

Apologies that you're going through that. Initially I thought it good to keep them open because it means you could post a follow up review. But with the moderation concerns in place, it does make sense to lock them.

Thanks for making this a safe space!

Personally I’ve really enjoyed reading and interacting with the old threads and being able to comment as I go through the series. It feels fun to have people’s thoughts and ideas all in one place, although I know that now that it’s coming back around again on certain series the old ones might seem moot. But I believe they’re still important and there’s important conversations still going on in some of them, even if they are across multiple years.

I’ve had so much fun commenting on like 10 year old threads, and then someone replies to my comment two years later! I definitely get a kick out of seeing how many people are still enjoying Star Trek 🥹

I personally really enjoy being about to see new comments and the ability to reply to old threads; this sub Reddit has been amazing with my first full watch through of the next generation currently

It seems like expanding the number of mods would be beneficial for this type of issue while keeping the threads open for people acting in good faith.
