Movies This deleted scene from AOTC of padme and anakin visiting padme's family and padme talking about the family she tried to save was so good I wish this was kept in
The little moments where they both got to know each other better in normal ways does wonders for developing their relationship

A lot of the cut scenes for II were quite good. I get that they probably were cut to try and get to the action sooner, but they should have stayed in.
Same with III with Padmé helping build what would be the start of the rebellion with the senators.

They could at least provide them in higher quality. The footage and end-to-end workflows were rendered in HD after all. The current versions are just the same old DVD files ported onto blu-ray.

I wish they would release extended versions of the prequels like LOTR. There’s so many cut scenes that were left out that would have been great to include.
I’m honestly surprised Disney didn’t do it for the anniversaries so they could re-release in cinemas and cash in.

There are some solid fan edits that upscale the deleted material though obviously it’s not the same as an official, polished re-release.

Indeed, and you know the studio's screwed up when fan edits are embraced better than their actual films - just look at The Hobbit.

All of the deleted scenes are necessary to keep the movie coherent.
They explain so much about the struggles of Anakin and manipulations of Palpatine which, without em, it makes it feel like Anakin's "turning" towards the dark side so sudden.
It also shows Palpatine making it seem like Obi-Wan was making moves towards Padme to push them apart even further (which also shows why anakin was so pissed at both of em on Mustafar)

I went to university with one of the actresses who played Padme’s niece. Some 10-15 years after appearing in both Episode II and III she was still getting random emails and messages from collectors asking for autographs despite her only being in the films for like a collective 30 seconds.

I really like this scene too for showing a more "middle class" SW home, but I have to admit Padme's outfit always had me feeling how impractical it was to wear when eating because I always get a food baby no matter how much or little I eat.

It is impractical. It's based off of a costume worn by Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia (sister of Nicholas II, the last tsar) to a costume ball in 1903. That costume was based on Russian folk dress from the late 1500s into the early 1600s. It wasn't designed to be anything other than pretty to wear.

The writing and acting is terrible in this deleted scene. So I think it would actually fit pretty well in Attack of the Clones. But holy hell, it feels like a student film.

Lucas and Ben Burtt cut a lot of the talking scenes and even did reshoots to add action scenes.
Like the Droid factory sequence was added late in post because both felt the movie didn't have enough action.
But I agree it's a cool sequence. Probably would have worked in a extended cut.

Why would they delete this? This is not rough or coarse or irritating at all!!??

Oh my God, the acting was so bad by Hayden Christensen. I know modern Reddit nerds like to pretend it was good or subtle or some other crap, but it was terrible. I don't know if I've ever seen a more wooden performance in a major movie.

He had good acting skills when he was younger then this in the higher ground tv show

These do add a lot to their relationship but i think keeping them in might hurt the pacing of the film

not the best scene tbh, but I guess I'll take this over the cringe we ended up getting, plus it at least felt natural not overdramatic like half of the movie

I always thought the novelization for AOTC, which includes these scenes and more, made the payoff of Anakin and Padme's relationship feel a lot more genuine and earned. The movie is already pretty slow in the middle though, so I'm not sure how you fit these scenes in without really grinding things to a halt.

I love the opening scene as they walk through the breezeway. That is CGI done right.

Some of these scenes were good and others cringe as hell. Specially the Padme family scene after the throne room visit completely felt like I was watching a Hallmark Christmas movie rather than Star Wars. The execution trial scene was ok, and Count Dooku's meeting with both Padme and Anakin was also ok.

Apparently there are 2 or 3 hours worth of deleted or skipped scenes that were worth keeping.

I like the context of these but omg why is it so bad 😭 Natalie Portman is a good actress, what is this?

The fact that her people voted for a child to become their senator is ridiculous.

Naboo was in major political upheaval at the time because the former ruler King Veruna had major embezzlment scandals and essentially sold out Naboo to the mega corporations.
Padme had already had somewhat of a succsefull political career by the time she was 14 as many of the Naboo were encouraged to engage in local politics from a young age via the Legislative Youth Program.
If I recall correctly Palpatine was the one who first suggested Padme run for office as he assumedly believed someone of such a young age would be easily manipulated and quickly cave to Trade Federation pressure once they invaded Naboo.
With a former ruler noted as one of the worst in Naboo's history, an already impressive track record for her age, and the backing of a beloved Naboo senator in Palpatine, Padme managed to ascend to be Queen of Naboo.

Brother all of that is a retcon though. It’s a fair critique of the movie because it’s impossible to understand any of that while watching the movie. You can’t just make a movie with a thousand plot holes and then say “don’t worry about it, somebody will write a book to patch this later” and then get off the hook. You’re literally describing “a story for another time”

I was just explaining the in universe reason. I don't really disagree that the movies have a bunch of plot holes that the EU had to later fix.

Ugh, that scene was so cringe. Glad they left it out of the film. Even as a kid, I hated how the home looked so “earthy” like we weren't even in Star Wars. The whole thing felt like a badly acted student fan film.

I’m sorry but this is very bad. Interesting to see for the first then but definitely should have been cut.

Also the fact that it was some of the few times you saw normal people do normal daily things in Star Wars.
