So Dave filoni's movie which concluded the mandoverse and thrawn's fights "Might be happening or not happening" according to Fiveswalker
https://x.com/fiveswalker/status/2104636820013125851
Do you believe this? To me it'd be very strange to just leave the whole thrawn plot thread hanging for long and surely they must know that mandalorian and grogu movie's performance shouldn't be considered to decide this when that movie underperformed so much because it had no driving factor or plot??
Idk i just dont like the idea of them abandoning the thrawn plot when it had just started to get more interesting
4
u/DarthTalgus 13d ago
I think considering how dodgy he was on if S2 is the end or not that his movie is being reworked into a S3 instead
5
u/darthsheldoninkwizy2 14d ago
Many people believe the film failed because it was based on a TV series (which, judging by other people's results, doesn't surprise me). With the Thrawn storyline, I wouldn't be surprised if they made a miniseries (perhaps with the trio recast after all).
12
u/40caratSpaceMarine 14d ago
I absolutely believe hin there. The movie will absolutely either happen ot not... this rrally is the kind of vague "leak" you throw out if you have nothing
4
u/Unique_Unorque Rex 14d ago
To be fair, they didn’t “throw out” anything. Somebody essentially asked them if it was happening and they said “I don’t know, but it’s not officially cancelled yet.”
9
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 15d ago
I honestly think that the direction that they take is to do an NR-era movie with the OT leads recast and as the main characters. Show characters would still appear but wouldn't be the focus. Whatever they do will be accessible for people who haven't watched the shows, but pleasing to people who have.
6
u/Fall_False 15d ago
I agree that is the route they should go with, but the issue there is we don't know at all how Lucasfilm feels about doing that.
8
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 15d ago
That all depends if Lucasfilm has gotten over its fear of recasting, which is see no sign of yet.
2
u/bepetd 14d ago
I kinda wonder if that‘ll change when they see the Harry Potter show being a success.

Star Trek SNW already recast Kirk and co. And no one was bothered by that.

There is the possibility that Ahsoka season 2 concludes the storyline set up in season 1. Maybe because it was always the plan or maybe because Ahsoka season 2 was reworked to be be an ending following the strikes.
It's important to remember that there is no real rumor or anything announced about what the movie was meant to be besides it being set in the New Republic era and being a "climactic event" to the era. Anything about Thrawn being the big bad is all fan speculation.
3
u/CobaltSpellsword 15d ago
Thrawn was just a smokescreen for the REAL New Republic ultimate villains: Triclossus and Grand Moff Hissa.

At Celebration London, Filoni described the film by talking about the New Republic being in conflict with the Imperial Remnant and spoke of the Expanded Universe being a huge inspiration. It was clear to everyone that he was alluding to an Heir to the Empire style movie.
15
u/Agitated-Fun6027 15d ago
The story is definitely getting told, but it not being a movie is for the best. It’s always been so bizarre that the culmination of 11 animated series seasons and 3 live actions series would be told in another medium. I mean, Ahsoka was alienating enough for people who didn’t watch TCW and Rebels, imagine of hard that movie would be to watch for the casuals who didn’t watch the live action series, let alone the animated ones. That story started as a show, it should be concluded as a show, even if I, personally, would’ve preferred that The Mandalorian stayed its one thing and that Ahsoka + HTTE movie would’ve been told as an animated series but oh well, we’re past that now aren’t we?
2
u/Ok_Insect_2037 13d ago
I’m not sure it was as alienating to the general audience as a lot of us perceive it and that criticism is overblown. If you take yourself out of the internet circle for a mo a lot of the general audience just took it all as presented. They weren’t looking for links, or asking who is this and was that from clone wars etc? My parents for example, they are so unplugged from the wider Star Wars universe, the cartoons, the EU and all but last I spoke they both asked why it hasn’t had a season 2 yet because it’s been their favourite of the Disney era. They’d seen Mando and just saw it as a continuation of that and Return of the Jedi. Didn’t even question about Anakin being her master or why Ezra was so important. Everything they needed was in the show apparently. My partner however hadn’t watched Rebels but does embrace the fandom so she’d heard everyone going crazy over certain characters which made her feel a bit like she was missing something.
12
u/SmaugRancor Maul 15d ago
I think the best way would be to make it as an animated film. It wouldn't be as expensive as a live-action film and this way we could easily get Luke, Han and Leia back in action one more time.
Also, with how much the animation has evolved from TCW to Maul: Shadow Lord, imagine how beautiful it would look with an animated movie budget.

FivesWalker claims once again that the Kinberg trilogy is greenlit:
“I said this before but I want to reiterate. Kinberg / Watts is 100% happening and is greenlit.
Sooner than you think.”
Personally, while I really appreciate their work in providing us scoops during this current holding pattern, I’m not sure whether to buy this. Though they hinted at Watts’s involvement prior to the trades’ report, the latter are studio mouthpieces, and normally don’t specify that a movie hasn’t been greenlit yet. If that specific detail is false, why would all of the trades explicitly include it, instead of just saying that the movies are in development?
2
u/EngineeringStillness 15d ago
I don't understand how the industry works. Does Greenlit mean coming to the big screen for sure, or just under further development? Like going from "we like this idea" to "let's see if we can make this."
5
u/Unique_Unorque Rex 14d ago edited 14d ago
When something is “in development,” it’s basically creatives pitching to studios, working on ideas, coming up with a production plan, and writing scripts. It’s a combination of what you said, but more accurately expressed with the ideas, “we like this idea; let’s see if people with money do too,” and, “let’s see if we can get money from people to make this.”
When a project is “greenlit,” it means it has found a home at a studio and pre-production is actively being funded. Set, costume, and prop production, casting, location scouting, and production scheduling has begun, and the producers fully expect it to go in front of cameras imminently.
Once something has fully entered production, usually the only thing keeping it from getting made would be some catastrophic event outside of the control of the production. An important actor dying, for example, or the studio being sold mid-shoot and the new owners not believing in the project. Something like that
11
u/TiredOldCliche 15d ago
Greenlit means it can leave the development stage and start pre-production. Granted, both "development" and "pre-production" are fairly fluid terms, but essentially it means that they can start scheduling, hiring crew and cast, writing the shooting script, etc.
Though until production starts, it could still be shafted.

He is also saying that he believes it will come out in 2029 and that he isn’t sure if it is actually Episode X.

I’d be shocked if it isn’t called Episode X. That would get general audiences’ attention.
7
u/bepetd 15d ago
Caleb Williams also said in his report last week that they're already casting the lead roles, which of course could take months, but it also sounded like there's an effort to move this forward.
8
u/Mayflower896 15d ago
Yeah, I noticed that detail too. Notably, Williams is the only person to have claimed that, so we’ll have to wait and see whether he’s correct.
If casting is indeed ongoing, then we’ll probably hear about calls soon. TFA had open ones that were widely reported, which would probably be the case for Kinberg’s too if they’re indeed courting relative unknowns.

Did anyone notice this?
A user asked Fives Walker—following what he said about Luke in Tales—if he knew anything about where we’d see Grogu next. And this is what he replied:
An animated show featuring Grogu and Rotta as they take on the first iteration of the Knights of Ren?
https://x.com/fiveswalker/status/2105374693020635252
Are they already working on an animated series featuring Grogu that’s coming soon, too? What do you think?

u/raptorBR 16d ago
I genuinely can't fathom that people don't realize that his answer is meant to be a joke, like guys, leakers can make jokes as well y'know.
20
u/Mayflower896 16d ago
FivesWalker jokes pretty often, from what I’ve seen. One of his jokes, about Ryan Gosling’s character’s being named “Cade Starfighter”, was part of what led to a fake leaker, Scoops_Ahoyyyyy’s, downfall, as they parroted it without realising that it wasn’t serious.
I also agree that this Knights of Ren vs Grogu tweet is 100% a joke.
4
9
u/raptorBR 16d ago
Oh yeah I remember the whole Cade Starfighter thing debuking Scoops. Honestly I hope he keeps doing these jokes so fake leakers ended up getting caught k
3
u/FiveWalker 15d ago
It's also how I got Ok-Aside (if any remembers them LOL) to delete their account haha
6
u/Mayflower896 16d ago edited 16d ago
Yeah, it would be funny to see that happen again with another fake leaker.
The whole Scoops debacle is pretty entertaining, in hindsight. Their tone of utter certainty, claims that would have required absolute knowledge about every division of Lucasfilm, “Cade Starfighter” and their doubling down on it, their confidently claiming that the D+ Starfighter trailer would be public and 2:30 minutes long…
That being said, while I personally believe Scoops was always fake, I do wonder if there have been any intentionally fake leaks seeded to more reliable people lately, which some big companies occasionally do. But I’m not sure if Disney specifically has a history of doing so.
2
u/Unique_Unorque Rex 15d ago
I believe there was a day a few years ago where a bunch of people were reporting on imminent D23 announcements and when none of them came to fruition, it came out that Lucasfilm had intentionally seeded false projects to people they suspected of being leakers to see which ones got reported on by people the community trusted
I can’t remember any specifics and of course that could have been just those scoopers trying to save their reputations, but it seems like, if that was true, that Lucasfilm has a history of this
4
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 15d ago
See i'm not sure since now the convo went
"Your a funny guy? I can confirm this is not happening"
"I can confirm it is happening 100%"
"nope. get new sources. the one(s) you have are misleading you on this."
"im pretty sure they aren't. the one that told me about this told me watts was directing X."
1
u/raptorBR 15d ago
My first comment was exactly because of this convo, this Universal was taken 100% what was meant to be a joke and Fives had to come and say "hey my sources are true". I genuinely can't believe some people can't understand this level of obvious irony. Tho it's the Xwitter at the end of the day.

u/GeekFurious 15d ago
People keep saying George handed Kennedy some kind of outline/treatment for the sequel trilogy. Over and over it's been mentioned that he didn't. All he did was hand over what might be considered a brief summary at best.
16
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 15d ago
The funny thing is that a lot of the ST that we did get still had the core narrative outlines if we're talking story beats and more thematic stuff. The biggest difference was with the Maul story instead being placed between TCW and the OT (where it made more sense anyways) and Snoke (and later still Palpatine) replacing him in the story. The only thing that they didn't touch was all the weird stuff about Midi-Chlorians.
2
u/NumeralJoker 14d ago
I still wonder if the Maul plot was what he handed her, or if even that was just part of an earlier phase.
The timing works, but it's so hard to keep track of this process, and the answers we've got over the years point to a hard to follow timeline, especially since George was allegedly consulted after the sale for about a year or so.

u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 16d ago
I'm guessing that Dave Filoni is queueing up some of Kathleen Kennedy's unmade projects from a little while ago, plus a few of his own that he's been preparing since he got his big promotion. I expect that next year will be huge for announcements.
14
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 16d ago
That makes sense, I don't think the change over from Kennedy to Filoni is a complete wipe the slate clean sitaution akin to James Gunn taking over DC. Dave was already in a high position when she was in charge.

I mean, it's been very quiet over the last few months, except for the Watts news, and this will be the first year without a live action project filming since 2013. That will probably be different next year, and there should also be more news then. Animation and video games are of course a bit more unpredictable.

FivesWalker reshares their previous claim that Luke will be in the next Tales of the Jedi season.
6
9
u/NumeralJoker 16d ago
Sadly, this is one of the more anti-climactic ways to bring him back, but I guess it does at least mean they have the model for a possible animated series in the future...?
As I've said before, I think a Luke and Ben series of sorts would be an honest no-brainer and would go a long way towards recontextualizing the post ROTJ era without undermining it.
9
u/Unique_Unorque Rex 16d ago
Could be gauging interest. Which seems like a wild thing to say, suggesting that Star Wars fans may no longer be interested in Luke Friggin Skywalker, but there is that vocal component of the online fandom that insists they’re done with Disney Star Wars and that the most recent project was the last one they’ll ever watch (of course until the next one is released)
27
u/Weak_Purchase_8937 17d ago
FivesWalker says that the third Jedi game will be releasing next year, and that marketing will begin sooner than people would expect, potentially even before TGA.
7
u/BShep_OLDBSN 16d ago
Hope this is true. Zero Company was amazing and i loved its conections to the Jedi series. 😃👍
-4
u/Stakex007 17d ago
Quite honestly, this is sort of why I hate "leakers".
Three years development for a game like this is bog standard, with there being four years between the first two games only due to disruptions from COVID. Anyone could easily predict the game is coming out next year. Also, the second game was announced almost a year and a half before it was released with the true marketing push starting about a year out. Obviously if it's coming out next year its marketing is going to start ramping up in the immediate future... which I think anyone with two brain cells would expect.
Not saying Fives hasn't been right about some things but this is also the kind of easy prediction that fake leakers, or at least those that aren't nearly as connected as they claim, use to boost their credibility.
6
u/Weak_Purchase_8937 16d ago
See I’m in the same camp as you here, that I always assumed and presumed that the game would release in ‘27. In regards to the marketing push that Survivor had, I think the game being announced almost a year prior to release was due to SWC taking place, and they’d want to capitalise on that to reveal the game to a mass Star Wars audience
1
u/darthsheldoninkwizy2 17d ago
The Video Game Awards are relatively soon, if I had to bet, we'll have a logo with the title before that, maybe even a teaser that the game is coming, but the full trailer will be at the awards.
9
u/Fall_False 17d ago
Makes sense, given the development time for these games, and the fact it is the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars next year, so I would imagine Lucasfilm wants at least one game out to celebrate it.

12
u/Blackhand47XD 17d ago
There was rumor, that next Tales of the... series will be about him. But because the last one were basically stories divided into three episodes, it may be possible that they remade it into movie. But thats just my thought.

u/Dull-Midnight-3218 18d ago
Another FiveWalkers Hint:
Someone mentioned a 2D Movie
He said "Not gonna share yet"
But retweeted something he said earlier.
"There's a reason there was a big gap between Bad Batch S3 (2024) and Maul S1 (2026), and it's very exciting."
5
u/EzraLikesLothcats 17d ago
Tales of the Underworld came out during that gap in 2025 so I'm assuming whatever project he's hinting at is going to be something bigger than a Tales (he mentioned Tales of the Jedi season 2 in another tweet) otherwise it wouldn't make sense to exclude Tales of the Underworld in that.
18
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 18d ago
From Five Walkers " I think that at this point everyone should have the exception that every live action project announced or reported before Filoni and Brennan becoming co-presidents are not longer moving forward, unless we hear explicitly otherwise."
6
u/Calfzilla2000 Snoke 17d ago
I dont think people should take this as "Filoni wasnt involved or supportive of anything they were developing prior to him taking over". He has been literally head of the creative development for years now.
It's more so that we should expect everything to be dead because its safer not to expect stuff that was announced years ago to get made unless news breaks about it.
2
u/darthsheldoninkwizy2 18d ago
This makes me wonder if the Starfighter was already under Filoni and Brennan, obviously theu only took over the reins recently, but I assume that such things have a prior, maybe even few years of arrangements.
8
u/Fall_False 18d ago
No, it had already finished filming by the time Filoni and Brennan took over as Presidents of Lucasfilm.
9
u/LFL-talk 18d ago
Kennedy said it’s the last Star Wars movies she is producing. It was too far along when Filoni took over to not release it.
0
u/brobastii 17d ago
It's not the last. She will also be a producer on the Kinberg trilogy. That started while she was still in charge. Starfighter is the last movie that was made while she was in charge & the Kinberg trilogy will be the first that gets made under Dave & Lynwen. But Kennedy is set to produce
4
u/Calfzilla2000 Snoke 17d ago
Kennedy said she will gladly produce any that she was apart of developing if they get resurrected but that is likely on a case by case basis, if she is needed to get it across the finish line.
And I am not going to beleive that Filoni was just not cool with everything they were developing before she left. He has been head of creative development for years already. He likely wants DOTJ and several others made.
6
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 18d ago

3
18d ago
I have a relatively good amount of sources and I wanted to pop in to share some progress updates of Star Wars films including some details about the Jon Watts/Simon Kinberg movie.
Starfighter
Lucasfilm and Disney are very happy with Starfighter. One source told me this is the happiest Lucasfilm has been in a film since The Last Jedi. Described as old-fashioned but not a retread and simplistic without being stupid. It's frequently been compared to Guardians of the Galaxy and the Disney animated film Treasure Planet. Disney has a lot of hopes for it and is expected to give it a major marketing blitz next year. Follow ups are possible depending on Shawn Levy's schedule.Jon Watts Movie
I heard a tidbit last year that Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Jon Watts had pitched their own films which I shared with FivesWalker and then they with Mando Updates. It turns out they were also the shortlist for the director of this new installment. Lee Isaac Chung was also considered. I was told the film (and the trilogy) are insanely ambitious in terms of story and tone. A lot more focus on mythology and romance than there ever has been before. Watts became the favorite due to his own ideas for the film, his history with coming of age stories, and his success with the MCU. Watts passed on an MCU return, a Jim Henson biopic, a Hades project, and a new Pirates of the Caribbean film in favor of Star Wars. Despite not being as successful as other shows, Skeleton Crew is very well liked by Lucasfilm.Lando
Kathleen Kennedy revealed earlier this year that Donald Glover has submitted a screenplay for Lando but it was up to new leadership to greenlight it. I was told the film is very kitschy, music focused, comedy heavy, and leans more adult. The two contributing factors to its lack of progress include Glover's schedule and the studios' lack of faith in it being commercially viable and being "too weird." Jon Favreau has championed the project due to his and Glover's previous collaboration on The Lion King.Taika Waititi's Movie
Like Lando, Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Taika had submitted a new draft earlier this year but it's not up to her to greenlight it. Also like Lando the film is very ambitious with its tone and story, very much being a Taika Waititi film first and foremost. Dave Filoni is interested in the project but it's not a priority due to the development of this new trilogy. There has been talks about potentially making the film animated as Waititi has expressed to colleagues his interest in doing an animated film.Dawn of the Jedi
Dawn of the Jedi as a film under James Mangold has been shelved due to creative difference, budget issues, and Mangold's lack of commitment. This film has been describe as Kathleen Kennedy's white whale and now that she's gone the current regime sees no reason to focus on it. It will likely be revisited at a later date.Animated Films
There are multiple animated films in development with the two that are the furthest along are a feature length adaptation of Screecher's Reach and an anime remake of A New Hope. An animated film centered on Luke Skywalker and a feature length adaptation of The Village Bride are also in development.New Jedi Order
New Jedi Order has officially been shelved and ideas for it will be absorbed by the new trilogy. Lucasfilm is still interested in developing a solo Rey project in addition to her appearance in the new trilogy.Dave Filoni's New Republic Movie
This is not happening but also still kinda happening. It's no longer going to be the big culmination movie featuring characters from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew. That idea is out the window due to the commercial performance of The Mandalorian and Grogu. There is an idea of making it a smaller scale film centered on Ezra Bridger. Dave will likely not direct due to new duties as Lucasfilm president.
4
u/Eastern-Mouse6436 16d ago
"There is an idea of making it a smaller scale film centered on Ezra Bridger."
This is the most obvious fake thing ever.
7
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 17d ago edited 17d ago
I don't buy the idea of Lucasfilm going "Darn, Mando and Grogu didn't sell their own movie. You know what would? A spin-off starring a character way less well-known from a show that doesn't even get half of their viewership!" and that being something that Lucasfilm would spend $150M+ on for a wide theatrical release.
I do think we'll get stuff in that era on film. It will involve the OT characters, recast. Not deepfaked. That's the only way to sell this and make it a gargantuan hit. The people of Lucasfilm are aware of this.

Just wanted to stop in here and say that based off of what I know about Kinberg 1, lots of the NJO plot points that I knew of should be tied into the new story
-influence from the film your name
-dyads
-a new male and female young lead
I think that Watts, who is known for coming of age stories, along with Kinberg who knows SW and has mr and mrs smith under his belt are a good fit for this story.
also p.s. remember that fives was the first to talk about Watts directing ;) (I was just too scared to actually say it outright LOL) https://x.com/fiveswalker/status/2103338472127807822?s=20

If this is accurate, it's pretty remarkable how deeply anime culture has seeped into film development now.
Not that I blame them. "Your Name" is a great film, and I've seen first hand how deeply the culture has infiltrated Hollywood for years in person.
But it's still fascinating to see it being reported on more widely among even the biggest figures.

I hope one day we will get alien protagonists as leads, I am sick of the games and films and series nearly always having human leads
1
u/darthsheldoninkwizy2 18d ago
Looking at how the statistics usually look when it comes to choosing a character in RPG games (ordinary human), it's unlikely to happen, maybe in some TV series or as one of the main characters, but not the protagonist.
-3
u/OniLink77 17d ago
I know it is unlikely, but i have stopped buying games and partly stopped consuming star wara media because of it
2
u/Unique_Unorque Rex 18d ago
I don’t think that’s ever going to happen on the big screen. Maybe a co-lead to a human protagonist but a human’s always going to be more relatable to mainstream audiences
-4
u/OniLink77 17d ago edited 11d ago
I will not watch things if it continues to happen, i have already partly stopped because of it. Humans are so boring, i am sure they can make aliens relatable and even if they arent as relatable, i dont care, i find alien protagonists far more immersive. We have a whole galaxy and we keep sticking to humans, its boring
Edit: The downvote button is not a disagree button

Great, now I'm picturing Your Name but with more lightsabers, space battles and Artoo and Threepo bickering with each other lol

EDITORIAL: What Ever Happened To Lucasfilm’s Scrapped ‘Star Wars: Rogue Squadron’ Project ?
https://knightedgemedia.com/2026/09/editorial-lucasfilms-scrapped-star-wars-rogue-squadron-project/

u/bepetd 18d ago edited 18d ago
I think the only new infomation from that article is that 'Ghost Track 17' was supposed to be an adaption of Rogue Squadron for Disney+, co-showrun by Rick Famuyiwa and Rayna Mclendon.
Also, there's no information here about the Cuse show, which could still happen and is allegedly also supposed to involve X-wing pilots.
5
u/SombraDeImperio 18d ago
The main questin now is, ok we now they intended to do Ghost Trak 17 as the third Iteration of Rogue Squadron as a series with Rick Famuyiwa as showrunner, consider that. So Nick and Carton Cuse series announced on the trades last year is it the fourth iteration? It was mentioned before that it was about "pilots" so Rogue Squadron could live again?
6
u/Fall_False 18d ago
I would also put Patty Jenkins version to actually be the second iteration of the project in as new info as well.
1
u/Fall_False 18d ago
So I guess we are getting Rogue Squadron after all.
4
u/ToastyMilk96 18d ago
FiveWalkers reported a few days ago that Caleb would soon release a report about a scrapped Lucasfilm project. I hope you're right and we get an update about RogueSquadron but I wouldn't be shocked to learn that this is the scrapped project that FiveWalkers was talking about.

The user just said that Caleb just reported that Rogue Squadron is still scrapped.

u/FunFlatworm9500 18d ago
I swear, this project has been up in the air for the longest time. I’ve seen countless “it’s been cancelled” and then “still in development on the back burner”
0
u/Secret_Hyena9680 18d ago
For big names like Jenkins, Taika, Johnson and Mangold, for PR purposes they’ll never officially say the project is cancelled.
29
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 19d ago
Also Five Walkers on the Filoni Film: It's not that it's not happening or that it is happening. it's more so that right now nothing is guaranteed besides Kinberg. could it happen? yes. but also a high chance it does not.
7
u/SombraDeImperio 18d ago
This is all very strange. At the Japan Celebration, Filoni mentioned several things about his movie—that he had designed opening scenes, and above all, that “time was against him in making it”—probably because it involves certain actors. Maybe Mark Hamill or Ford? I don’t know.
But there are some signs, regardless of what he’s already doing with Kinberg on Episode X. Let’s remember that Favreau, during the *Mandalorian* press tour, said he would meet with Filoni to discuss the future—if I recall correctly, he said this in Madrid before returning to the U.S. That implies there’s some kind of future plan, although of course that was before the terrible box office performance of the Mandalorian and GRogu movie.
I also think the fact that *Ahsoka* is titled “Season 2” implies that nothing is over—they aren’t marketing it yet as a “final season” or anything like that. Plus, as the head of the studio, I don’t think he’s going to “shoot himself in the foot” by not wrapping up his story in the New Republic era with Ahsoka, Sabine, or Ezra as the protagonists; if he doesn’t, I think he’d disappoint a lot of people.
That’s why I think, given the context, he’s focusing on making Kinberg’s trilogy work and, at the same time, continuing his New Republic story to deliver some kind of conclusion—most likely in a movie. Even if it takes him from now until 2030. Given the overall context, I think something like this will happen: first Episode X, and then Filoni’s movie.

u/Fall_False 18d ago
I am guessing it is either reworked into a miniseries, or have it be focused on recasted versions of Han, Luke and Leia to get attention from general audience.
8
u/Ok_Insect_2037 18d ago
I vaguely recall Filoni saying he had two versions in mind and both are timing dependent. One version could only be made if they move quickly. My guess was either he was debating whether to have the Skeleton Crew kids be a part of it and was concerned about them aging up too quickly or he was weighing up a Han Luke and Leia recast vs digital faces and involving MH and HF.
11
u/BubblyBasis1134 19d ago
Not overly surprising, really. Whether or not you're a fan of his work in animation, it's hard to argue that his live-action offerings as a writer and director justify the gamble of giving him hundreds of millions of dollars to make a Star Wars movie right now that's going to get people into theatres. Especially after Mando & Grogu flopped. It's definitely wiser to let some more experienced people try and get the momentum back before do an Ahsoka/Mando/Thrawn movie or whatever.

u/NumeralJoker 18d ago
Honestly, a huge part of me wishes the Ahsoka series had stayed animated. I feel like so much of what people get upset about would've never been an issue with a Bad Batch/Maul level production series telling this story as a proper Rebels continuation.
I know that inherently limits the audience, but it's not as if Ahsoka found much of a larger audience in live action either, sadly.
I do have reasonably high hopes for season 2, but I'm more cautious about where the story will go as a whole. If they either refuse to involve the OT cast, or can't recast them, it strongly limits the storyline's potential, IMHO. This is a story they should absolute be part of.
6
u/NumeralJoker 18d ago
Saying that animation lacks nuance, including Filoni's own work, especially more recent productions, is incredibly tone deaf and not at all what I'm implying.
Rather, with animation...
- They can more easily recast the OT crew.
- The scope of any one conflict can be better depicted on screen, and nearly all of the limitations of a live action production disappear.
- They can continue to please the same animation audience that had already supported them for 18 years now with less overt division.
- The cost of the production drops a substantial amount while retaining a solid core audience.
- The storyline seasons can come out on a much more consistent schedule.
- Rather than "lacking nuance", as you ignorantly suggest, the animation production keeps the style of storytelling more consistent. George's Star Wars has always had an element of old serialized camp to it, given its flash Gordon inspired origins. Dave has been channeling that from day 1, but that style connects better with an audience in animation. That is not the same thing as "lacking nuance".

u/sammypants69 18d ago
Yeah. Filoni's writing and direction are both in the style of animation: i.e., lacking the nuance necessary for live action. I agree that Ahsoka would have worked much better in animation. There would have been way less standing around and looking fierce, and the fight scenes would have been waaayyyyyyyyy more impressive.

Five Walkers response to the trailer rumor
"No Lol"
4
u/Jolly-Potential-1411 19d ago
I mean, I don’t see why they WOULDN’T release a teaser trailer today. It’s exactly eight months out from release. A rough cut of the film has been shown to Disney executives, so they’re clearly far enough along to have something, not to mention that great-looking teaser they showed at D23.
Also, the game is a match-up of two big teams with massive fanbases spanning huge geographical regions (Midwest vs. East Coast), AND it’s being broadcast on ESPN and ABC, which are of course owned by Disney.
I know Fives is reputable and reliable so far, but are they spot on for trailers? It just doesn’t add up for me.
2
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 19d ago
Anything is possible but I’m not holding my breath
1
u/Jolly-Potential-1411 19d ago
Yeah, I guess. Would be a bummer if it wasn’t tonight, but I suppose we’ll get it soon enough.
0
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 19d ago
Nobody was promised anything . So I don’t see it as a bummer cus a bad source said something they probably shouldn’t
3
u/Jolly-Potential-1411 19d ago
I’m not saying I was promised it. It just made sense, considering all the cross-company synergy that would be involved, you know? And the Mando trailer came out exactly eight months from release too.
3
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 19d ago
Maybe. It’s also possible they are going for a different marketing schedule this go around

RUMOR: The first teaser for STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER is air during the NFL game today between Bears vs Eagles
17
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 19d ago
Star wars Holocron is a terrrible site that just lies. Star Wars sessions the original source made a prediction this could happen not a scoop
3
u/monarchy18 19d ago
I wouldn't say lies, they have no sources, they just regurgitate from all over the Internet into one place. Its why the account does have some merit.
but I'm skeptical and don't think its likely to be true. But its a so called rumor in a rumor/new thread.
9
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 19d ago
Five walkers just said "No lol"
Also he completely reguitates it in the worst way possible though
Basically Holocron is a crap source for anyone to listen too.

6
u/Evri-Wan_Kanblome 19d ago
I really hope this is true, but I don't want to get my hopes up. For what its worth, TM&G's first teaser came out on Sept 22nd last year, exactly 8 months before the release date. Today is Sept 28th, which is exactly 8 months before Starfighters release date.
3
u/Stakex007 19d ago
It makes sense and all, and if I recall there were previous rumors that it could drop tonight, but wasn't there a lot more chatter (and maybe even an announcement?) leading up to the Mand and Grogu trailer releasing? Seems kind of strange to me to just randomly drop it during MNF without announcing it to drive up viewership.
8
u/Secret_Hyena9680 19d ago
Yeah, you’d think they would announce it ahead of time if it was going to happen.

u/Mojave_RK 19d ago
It’s kind of crazy that we are seemingly getting X-XII and it doesn’t feel like a big deal.
11
u/Stakex007 19d ago
Important to remember that its still in early development and according to the leaks about Watts, the film isn't even greenlit by Disney yet. If this is the direction they go though, expect a huge announcement at Celebration... and then it'll be a very big deal, especially if Starfighter ends up being good and does well at the box office.
-9
7
u/Fall_False 19d ago
It’s probably because so many films have been announced so far that ended up not going anywhere. So it’s fair for some people to keep their expectations in check.
7
u/Dull-Midnight-3218 19d ago
Wait till Celebration and they offically ancounce it with a cast and then it will feel like a big deal
Personally it doesn't need to feel like a big deal now. Thats what trailers are for.
8
u/Youngstar9999 Ahsoka 19d ago
well the main reason is that there have been a bazillion movies announced that never materialized. Hard to get excited when you have been burned so many times. I will get excited when it's actually filming.
-4
u/Vos661 19d ago
How could it be a big deal when they killed methodically every members of the Big Three in the last movies, without giving them any children to continue their legacy ? Episode X-XII without Ben Skywalker, Jaina Solo or other characters means nothing
0
u/Stakex007 19d ago
It's not hard to retcon there being other Skywalker children. After all, I don't think it was ever specifically stated that Ben Solo was Han/Leias only kid nor do we know much about what Luke was up to before the sequels other than his school being destroyed.
I know this has been discussed to death but for arguments sake, if the kid in Starfighter is Luke's and Amy Adams is playing a Mara Jade like character (or MJ herself), it really doesn't take much to make that fit. They survived his school being torched and went into hiding while Luke stayed as far from them as possible to protect them. Hell, it'd even help redeem his character a bit from the sequels, giving him a real reason to be in exile.
1
u/NumeralJoker 18d ago
TBH, I would not be shocked if that's exactly what Starfighter sets up. I don't want to "expect it" per se, but the rumors keep dancing around this in ways that are very difficult to ignore.
2
u/Mayflower896 18d ago
I think the secret Skywalker rumours will persist until we know for sure who the kid’s father is by seeing him or getting a name and background that definitively can’t be Luke.
And “dancing around” is a good way to describe it, as there does seem to be actual secrecy surrounding the boy and his family, unlike past “x new character is actually y Legends character or a relative of z”. How did Amy Adams’ involvement not leak? Why did the boy’s casting call demand only white actors? And if this movie is truly “beyond it all”, why set it so close to past movies and include elements that would require explanations in that specific era, but not in the past or distant future (Jedi)?
And the leakers’ sole mention of the father, with him described as a friend of Kade’s, might have either come from an early script (according to MSW) or been just a decoy backstory (per FivesWalker).
It might be just because they were able to cast a big name in Gosling, but I have a feeling that there’s a bigger reason why Starfighter managed to start filming last year, while every other standalone, including the Rey movie, was supposedly shelved. Even if there are no legacy connections, I fully expect SF to be a Kinberg trilogy back door pilot in some capacity; and for there to be some sort of mystery related to the kid, who was conveniently ignored and left nameless in the D23 presentation and its press releases despite appearing in the trailer.
That being said, it’s still early days, and the official trailer could instantly disprove much of this speculation. But until then, it’s fun to come up with these theories. I’m personally hoping above all for a good movie, so I won’t be disappointed if there aren’t any legacy ties.
14
u/Secret_Hyena9680 19d ago
When it’s officially announced, it’ll be a big deal.
1
u/RealisticAd4054 19d ago
The announcement of the Rey/NJO film at Celebration was a pretty big deal.
3
u/AD_Movie-Tvfan14 19d ago
I hope it’s not episode 10-12 BUT I can see Disney /Lucasfilm saying it is EP 10-12 to “lure” fans back into theatres. Since fans/ the GP knows SW as episodic sagas
-6
u/Theesm 19d ago
Episodes 7-9 meant we'd see what happened to Luke, Leia and Han. Legendary characters we had seen last back in 1983.
The prequels had been there in between but this really was a sequel to a 30 year old movie.Episodes 10-12 mean a sequel to mediocre movies with characters most people really aren't interested in.
7
u/Stakex007 19d ago
Which is probably why Starfighter is going to serve as the setup for the trilogy instead of just jumping right in. The hope is likely to create a new group of characters that people like and become invested in to springboard into a new trilogy rather than it having much to do with the sequels.
I keep saying it but there is a reason the Rey movie is dead (and Hunt for Ben Solo was never greenlit) and replaced by Starfighter, which is being sold as having nothing to do with the sequels... and it's because everything you said is true. It's also the same reason people expecting the Kinberg trilogy to be some sort of fusion of the Rey and Ben Solo movies are in for a rude awakening, with rumors suggesting Rey is going to play at most a small role in EpX.
8
u/Mean-Air1985 19d ago
It's technically still a rumour at this time, so there isn't much reason to get too excited for the moment.
7
u/FunFlatworm9500 19d ago
Probably because there hasn’t been an official announcement of any kind, and the Skywalker saga wrapped up. It’s not like we’re finally getting episode 7 after a long wait of anticipation
15
u/bepetd 19d ago
This isn’t necessarily Star Wars news, but according to Matt Belloni, Shawn Levy will get a TV overall deal at Disney. He was at Netflix before. https://x.com/MattBelloni/status/2104599069289251009

Well, anywho, here you go: a bas relief of The Father, the Son, and the Daughter center stage amidst a conflict between the Nightsisters and the big droids on Peridea.
Also something else: You see this in the background in the teaser, albeit blurry. Have fun searching!
