Question Steam keeps getting attacked
not sure if this is the right place to ask, but my friend's steam account keeps getting taken away again and again and again, he recovers it. it gets taken again, and this has become a common thing, recently he got infiltrated and from his account our steam family got dismissed and his whole account profile and details were changed, of course he recovered it again but I'd like to know if anyone here has any idea how and why this could be happening? any reasons?

They have other compromised accounts such as email, they need to do a full reset on all accounts that are used to verify details.

How could one find such a malware hidden in their PC? Or phone?

They disconnect it from the net, and nuke it. Then reinstall fresh from a known good copy

In addition to sign out of all devices, changing email and password, i would format windows. Something must be infected there.

Also if he uses the same password for everything - he has to change them all for good. With all different passwords.

They probably reuse passwords way too often and don’t use 2FA.
They need to change the passwords on all email accounts asap, followed by any account that uses the same password and email combo. Enable 2FA on every single account that supports it, but especially sensitive accounts such as email and Steam.

Maybe he can change the password on mobile and use his mobile to connect on your pc

As someone who was hacked recently, they need to do everything that everyone suggested here. Especially locking down their email. I had someone popping in and out of my account and flagging all their activity as spam before I could see it so I didn’t see it until it was too late. Also yes total OS wipe is needed if you’re positive it’s not the email that’s the problem. Better yet, learn Linux if you’re using windows as windows is more likely to be compromised. That’s what I did - the hacker “appears” to have been thwarted for now. fingers crossed

Don't forget to unlink from other apps. Discord's security isn't exactly stellar...

first, does he have the steam guard.
if he doesn't, he should change his password and get the steam app and set up the steam guard and log out of all his and other devices. then once he's done he should log back in his devices.
PS: he should select the option log out on all devices. then he'll log back in. if he doesn't he night get hacked again. also he shouldn't click links without proper knowledge.
