Here Me Out

Hear me out (lol) I know the steam deck would be awesome but what if Valve at the same time of release brought out an 8 inch Oled steam tablet with the latest snap dragon , boot loader fully unlocked and it ran steam OS like the frame with full desktop support ect..

It would be able to run android apk or whatever ever

Alongside a new extendable steam controller and app like droid deck for devices that can't run the os without boot loader unlocked

That would be pretty cool no need to change the form factor of the steam deck 2 allowing it to be pushed to the max but giving people a more small portable option.

All i want is a dedicated steam streamer handheld no frills just stream from steam machine.

They could call it the steamer

Odin devices running ArmadaOS and Tailscale to your PC with the Steam client running.

I've been using my SD primarily for streaming now, but the screen is getting too small for my eyes now. 8 inch streaming device would be amazing idea. Steam Cast or Steam Slate please. šŸ˜„

Because the msi runs as a steam deck I found my main gripe is when accessing quick settings (decky) it opens up the menu for the handheld not the source computer.

Ahh yes, a good ol' fashioned Gaben Steamer.

Currently have retriod pocket 5 with ArmadaOS and msi claw 8ai+ with steam os installed.

Retroid is good but small screen

The claw is great but overkill to just stream on.

The prefect device would be ps portal size and weight

Why are people complaining about the screens when most of these devices are bigger than the Gameboy micro and people loved that thing?

Honestly, your phone probably does it as well as anything else

I really like this Idea and Lenovo sells reasonable 8GB 10" snap dragons. Bu that controller thingy and your set.

You mean full steamos on a tablet like armadaOS?

They are having a hard enough time delivering the hardware or even accessories they already have skus for.

Some people with "reserved" frames are going to be waiting into 2027. More people are on the "waitlist" to get on the "reserved" list. They sold out of velcro straps. The machine has similar issues.

I'd be kinda surprised if we see anything solid about a steam deck 2 before 2029. The community making stuff to use the tech made for the frame is already here. You'll probably be able to flash something on a tablet well before Valve can put new hardware in your hands.

I never wanted to play AAA games on my windows gaming handhelds but they were all huge, heavy, and had shit battery life

I’d love one of these

We need a proper handheld streaming client. The XCloud paved the way, but technology has advanced and it's quite dated now. It would be awesome to have it run Steam OS out of the box ensuring VRR could work if the panel supports it.

All I want in life is a Nintendo switch lite-sized device with steam deck-like performance

Is this droideck? I couldn't get the aspect ratio to work properly

2

u/lewibaygo 6d ago

Yes droid deck on a red magic astra

2

u/PharohPirate 6d ago

How are you getting the aspect ratio correct

1

u/Aderrro48 2d ago

How are you liking it on astra? Im considering buying one.

It's ok could do with some performance improvements I think Witcher 3 didn't run that great but it's early days it can only get better from here and a good alternative to game hub which has been acting up lately loging me out depending on what network I'm on ext

Can already do that no frills with the Link app and a half-decent tablet. Im using a Redmi Tab 8" and works great, with the same controller as above. What you want is the PlayStation Portal for Steam. That's already your phone. Would a first party device rock? Totally! You just don't have to wait for Valve

Yeah I do that but found that taking the steam deck along with my laptop gpd win max2 and a tablet starts to weigh up I don't end up using my steam deck a lot when away I use it a lot at home though Infront of the TV while others a watching what they want But for trips don't need all that power at least the tablet has dual uses ect for consuming other types of media just would like an option to be out of all the walled gardens being put up Valve seems like the only company to respect that

Are you really that behind the times? Have you not heard of FEX, GamNative, DroidDeck?

That's actually not a bad idea I just understood zero of it. Stream is already runs full desktop support I believe.
