Working with distros to integrate EAC sounds like a bad time to me. Whatever they are going to want to inject into the kernel is not going to be a benefit to anyone, especially from a security standpoint. Especially especially if it's vibe coded.

What's worse is their stance... Joe Barrett stated on X regarding Arch and Cachyos "Would love to work with them, our contact info is in the blog for them to reach out."... They expect people to seek them out, it's crazy...

I'm sorry.. I meant it doesn't not support SteamOS.

Or Arch in general.

Yep, and take a good look at EAC 2's planned requirements... That may actually be the end of EAC on Linux.

Or the end of EAC adoption

Then what is the point of adding the Linux support for the launcher..

Epic is not just a fortnite launcher

True, it's also a reminder that you have Steam, and GOG.

What's more important is EAC for Linux v2, with the announcement of Fortnite Linux support.

Even if you're not interested in Epic Games or Fortnite, this new EAC will mean support for most KAC multiplayer games on Linux.

I could care less about Fortnite or EGS, but I agree. This will only help with native support of more games.

*couldn't care less

Sadly sounds like no Arch/CachyOS/SteamOS support.

Were do people get this from. It says right in the blog they are open to talk to Valve about SteamOS and for other distro maintainers that want support, there's also an e-mail to communicate with them

Reading more than 5 words is hard.

I don't know if valve wants them messing with the Linux kernel.

I hope not honestly. We don't need to hand over the keys just to play someone's game.

I dropped windows for Linux but I still don't really care about what the epic store doing. I'm not going to play Fortnite or whatever other slop they might toss out.

Maybe Omarchy fans will like it.

For me personally, I'm happy to get official support before the next game by one of my fav devs comes out:

However, I'm also just excited for more Linux users, the more Linux users, the more Linux support.

I’m not here to support AI usage in irresponsibile ways but I do think people need to realize that the majority of enterprise software is being written with AI these days.

I lead several teams of engineers and at this point they are basically AI agent managers. They typically have an agent that will orchestrate the work and hand it out to many sub agents to keep workloads small. There are agents for gathering requirements, coding, reviewing, ensuring standards are followed, etc.

It’s just the way that the industry is moving.

Do you know about Epic's big push to AI everything? They themselves tweeted about it being "vibe coded" they are proud of it. They didn't say, "Our developers, using the latest AI, were able to make this in record time", they just said AI take the wheel. Not the same thing.

That's what's so funny, when I see "Native linux support" it just makes me think, "Why stop there? where is the BeOS version? OS/2 Warp?" There is no limit when it's just an AI slop coded pile of crap.

Go talk with Linus Torvalds, Linux kernel itself is ai slop these days.

1

u/NerdyGuy117 4d ago

You’re being downvoted, but it is absolutely true that Linus uses AI for maintaining and patching the kernel. He even told people if they don’t like AI to fork the kernel and maintain that.

6

u/MattyGWS 4d ago

he's being downvoted for calling linux AI slop when it's created by one of todays greatest software engineers that happens to have started using a very powerful tool to his advantage.

It's a stupid take

I have a ton of games that I have gotten free on Epic Games Store (and a couple I bought because they were cheeper there) and not having cloud saves with Heroic Launcher has been a real bummer. If this solves that so I can finally use that huge library on my SteamOS devices that will be a really big deal. Only bummer so far is I can't seem to get it to log into my account I got the preview build installed on my deck and when I click sign in it says it will open the browser but instead it opens Discover to the firefox listing then when I open firefox and log into epic games store the launcher does not seem to recognize that fact. Hopefully someone at Epic has a deck with firefox as their main browser and fixes this soon.

It's just the only launcher I don't use in steamOS
