PhD funding Application for Research Ireland

I’m a prospective international PhD candidate looking to start next September. I was previously told that I could not qualify for funding through Research Ireland but have since found out I can. The deadline is in 2 weeks, and I know it is very competitive. I have already completed my project proposal and been in contact with advisors. However, I am unsure if I can finish a competitive application with the time remaining. Does anyone have experience with the application process and know how if it is foolish to pursue funding with such little time left?

Have no idea what the story is with Research Ireland or PhD funding this cycle as things have changed. But when it was IRC and the old phd funding schemes I incidentally did mine in two weeks as well and was successful. Had to do a few late nights though.

Hi there. Welcome to /r/StudyinIreland.

This sub is for International Students to ask about the mechanics of moving here to study, any Irish students should reach out to the leaving cert subs, the individual college subs or even /r/AskIreland.

This sub is small and cannot give accurate/up to date information on individual college courses, content or job market applicability. If you would like specific information on specific courses we would advise seeing the subs for the colleges or any industry specific subs that exist.

Please see the Wiki or Sidebar for lists of subs that may be of more tailored use.

Have you found any other information about it? I am working on my proposal and have also been in contact with advisors. I haven't been able to find information online about the current process or application requirements.

Since this year, the scheme has been rebranded as the Research Ireland Empower programme (read more here). Instead of students applying individually to Research Ireland, as in previous years, 18 universities listed on the website can now apply for funding. The deadline is November 6, with decisions expected in January 2027. It’s then up to the universities to decide how to distribute the funding among PhD students (and potentially postdocs). Since this is all new, I imagine the universities are still working out how the process will work.
