Berlins unique subway ride

This July, just before Berlin Pride I took a ride on a very unusual Sightseeing tour through the Berlin subway.

You ride on open-platform cars through 3 lines, U7, U8 and U9, and can enjoy the vibe of the subway in a way you couldn't on a normal train.

This ride is unique in the world. If you have a chance to get a ticket: DO IT!

Seeing the reactions of the people on the stations and waving at them really is the best part of this! It looks like a bunch of happy minions on a train, spreading joy across the subway system.

It’s really fun and I can also highly recommend it!

Not sure if I would post these pics online though as it’s not allowed to take any pictures or videos…

On my ride they encouraged us to post as much as possible.

oh just read that you did the tour in July, then yeah, I think from August or September onwards the rules changed because it was deemed as critical infrastructure.

Did it in June and they clearly said do not post online. They did not forbid us to make few photos and videos for memory but they clearly said we are not allowed to post them.

Well, my ride was a special Pride Ride that you could only get tickets for if you knew a certain code word... maybe that's the reason why the rules on my ride were less strict.

I did the tour in September and they forbade us from taking pictures due to sabotage concerns

They announce in advance at what date the next batch of tickets goes on sale. Just set a reminder, then you won't have a problem

When did you do this? Because I did it a couple weeks ago and the dude kept yelling at us for taking photos and videos. That was like the whole reason I wanted to take the tour was for photos

In July. We got encouraged to publish as much on social media as possible.

You only want to take a tour to do photos? What happened to actually enjoying the tour lol

Yeah I wanted to make a cool video and show my friends. Also enjoy the ride of course, but the main thing was to get some cool clips

omg that’s so annoying, i’d be so pressed if they ruined the vibe like that. maybe it just depends on who is working that day? luck of the draw i guess

In 5 years of living there I never noticed this, but last week on a visit I saw it :-)

I almost thought you went through Waisenstrasse, but the tunnels look different there

The Waisentunnel is under construction anyways and currently full of scaffolding.

How is this "line" called? Is there any information from BVG on when this train will run. Would love to ride it someday.

It’s a paid tour, you can’t just get on it unfortunately.

when I was a kid I visited Berlin (West) and the subway would pass through Alexanderplatz, which was in the East. It was spooky to see the station but not stopping and going out. A couple of years later, it opened and we could get to the East, with passports checked etc. It moved me a lot when some time later, I visited again and now it was all open and no border anymore.
