My mum is entering her second year in her architechture degree and needs something to replace an insufficient Macbook. I know this is lacking with its processor and graphics card, but I'm wondering wether the cores may make up for this.

If this is insufficient would be very happy to have a suggestion.

Laptop Request US Best PC for photography on a budget (USA, $1550)

Country

USA. Must be purchased from Best Buy (got a gift card).

Budget

$1550

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Maybe. Best Buy open-box, yes. Refurbished only with a solid warranty.

Screen size

13" to 16"

Weight limit

About 2 kg (4.4 lb)

Purpose

Photo editing, including astrophotography.

Form factor

Standard/Clamshell. A 2-in-1 is fine.

Intended usage

Lightroom Classic and Photoshop with very large files (61 MP RAW, about 120 MB each), Lightroom AI Denoise, and astro stacking. I work directly off an external SSD. I sometimes travel for astro shoots and edit in the field.

Desired battery life

8+ hours of light use and editing.

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance, battery life, weight, size.

Info/Requirements

Windows only, not open to Macs. 32 GB RAM minimum; upgradeable RAM is a nice-to-have. Screen quality is my top priority because I edit only on the laptop screen, with no external monitor, so I want wide colour and accurate colour. An SD card reader would be a bonus. Need it by early November.

I'm deciding between:

- Gigabyte AERO X16: Ryzen AI 7 350, RTX 5060, 32 GB upgradeable, 16" IPS (sRGB only)

- ASUS ProArt PX13: Ryzen AI Max+ 388, 32 GB fixed, 13.3" OLED (wide colour)

Which would you pick and why? If you have a better suggestion within budget at Best Buy, please share it.

Laptop Request -Others Searching Gaming Laptop for vacations (900€-1200€)

• Upvotes

Country

Germany

Budget

900€ - 1200€

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Yes

Screen size

Any (not too small tho)

Weight limit

Any

Purpose

Gaming when away from home (on vacation & when I'm visiting my boyfriend), watching movies

Form factor

A regular laptop

Intended usage

Infinity Nikki on low or medium settings, League of Legends (without lag!), watching movies

Desired battery life

About 4-6 hours (It's okay for me to charge it the whole time while gaming)

Most important

The most important thing for me is the performance and that I can keep it for many years to come

Info/Requirements

The display should be at least somewhat colourful, since my old laptop displays stuff very dull and greyish. My old laptop was also really loud, it sounded like an airplane starting (I would prefer that not to happen)

I'm very much okay with refurbished options as long as they work well! Can be cheaper than 900€ if it's fitting the requirements

Laptop Request -Others Looking for a 15–17" OLED laptop

I'm looking for laptop recommendations, and would appreciate any suggestions!

Country: Germany / EU

Budget: up to €1,000 but I can stretch it a bit if the difference is worth it.

Used/refurbished: Yes, absolutely fine.

Screen size: 15–17 inches, preferably 16".

Weight limit: None.

Purpose: University studies, programming, and watching movies.

Form factor: Standard clamshell laptop.

Intended usage: Programming, university coursework, multitasking, and media consumption. I don't need a dedicated GPU.

Desired battery life: Not important.

Priorities: Performance > Size > Weight > Battery life.

Additional requirements:

Display: OLED is a priority.

CPU: Intel Core i7, 10th gen or newer, or an equivalent AMD processor.

GPU: Integrated graphics are perfectly fine.

RAM, and storage: Non necessary, I have 32gb sticks, and ssd nvme to transfer from my broken laptop if needed.

Condition: New, used, or refurbished.

I'm mainly looking for the best value for money. I'm happy to consider older models if they offer good performance, and a great display.

Which laptops would you recommend, and are there any particular models I should look for on the used market?

Laptop Request US Recommendations for WoW:Forever

Hey everyone,
I’m trying to find a solid laptop for my fiancĆ© that she can actually keep for years (hence the ā€œWoW foreverā€ part). Main use is World of Warcraft – she wants a consistent 60+ FPS in raids without dropping, preferably on higher settings if possible. She’s not chasing ultra high-end competitive FPS, just smooth and reliable.
She also does a good amount of digital drawing and some 3D printing/design work, so something that’s comfortable for that would be great (good color accuracy, decent pen support if it’s a 2-in-1, enough power for the usual modeling/slicing software, etc.).
Preferences:
• OLED screen if possible
• Something that feels future-proof enough that she won’t need to upgrade again in 2–3 years
• Decent battery life would be a bonus but not a deal-breaker
Budget is flexible depending on how good the package is – just looking for recommendations that hit the performance + creative use case well.
Any specific models or builds you’d suggest? Thanks in advance!

Laptop Request US MacBook Pro (pro chip) vs Lenovo Yoga 91

Trying to help a buddy pick out a laptop and we are debating between the MacBook Pro (m5 chip) versus the Lenovo yoga 9i.

For anyone who has either of these, what are your opinions on them? He does a lot of AI work, does some gaming, and light video editing. Is 32 gb of ram necessary? And is MacBook Pro quality that much better?

Share your thoughts

Laptop Request Ca Gaming Laptop for $3000ish CAD [Toronto, ON]

Country

Canada

Budget

~$3000 CAD / ~$2128.72 USD with some flexibility

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

No

Screen size

15+

Weight limit

Any

Purpose

Gaming

Form factor

Clamshell

Intended usage

Final Fantasy XIV is the main game I play on the road right now, at medium settings 60fps, but I'm probably going to try to get some other games in there intermittently, right now it's Star Wars Galactic Racer, Warframe and Monster Hunter Wilds.

Desired battery life

4 hours is fine for flights, will be plugged in most of the time.

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance >>> Size = Battery Life > Weight

Info/Requirements

Current laptop is a Lenovo Legion 5 15" from 2021, with "8-core Ryzen 7 4800H processor, GTX 1660 Ti graphics, 16 GB RAM, a 512 GB SSD, and a 1080p 15.6" 144Hz IPS display".

Better resolution than 1080p would be very nice, and would prefer AMD over Intel, but not terribly picky on anything else.

My current Lenovo has been the most solid gaming laptop I've ever owned (had a few Acers and Dells over the years) so I wouldn't mind sticking with the brand but it's not a dealbreaker.

Huge plus would be something I can pick up west of Toronto or close enough, with a preference towards Canada Computers since I live 5 minutes from one of those, but as long as I can get it before the end of October for the start of the next run I'll be happy.

Thanks in advance, y'all!

Laptop Request Ca Best laptop around $1,500 to $2,000 CAD for AI agent development + light gaming (and good international warranty)?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a brand-new laptop in Canada (budget around $1,500 to $2,000 CAD before tax) mainly for agentic AI development (running Claude Code, Antigravity, OpenClaw, Docker containers, and WSL2) plus some occasional gaming. Having reliable international warranty support is also a big plus for me.

Here are the 5 options I'm looking at right now:

- Lenovo LOQ 15.6" ($1,500 CAD at Best Buy) - i7-13650HX, RTX 5050, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD, 1080p 144Hz

- Acer Nitro V 15 15.6" ($1,600 CAD at Staples) - i9-13900H, RTX 5060, 16GB RAM (DDR4), 1TB SSD, 1080p 144Hz

- MSI Katana 15HX 15.6" ($1,800 CAD at Staples) - i7-14650HX, RTX 5060, 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSD, QHD 1440p 165Hz

- Lenovo Legion 5i Gen 10 15.1" ($1,965 CAD at Lenovo) - Core Ultra 7 255HX, RTX 5060, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD, 1600p OLED

- ASUS ROG Strix G16 16" ($2,000 CAD at Best Buy) - Core Ultra 7 255HX, RTX 5060, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD, 1200p 165Hz, 90Wh battery

For my workflow, is it worth spending ~$2,000 on the ROG Strix G16 or Legion 5i, or does the $1,800 MSI Katana 15HX (with the 1TB SSD and 1440p screen), $1,600 Acer Nitro V 15, or $1,500 Lenovo LOQ make more sense? Also, how do ASUS, Lenovo, MSI, and Acer compare when it comes to international warranty coverage?

Would love to hear from anyone who owns these. Thanks!

I don't want too much of a bulky device but I will not be carrying it around so something average not too slim. For me the screen quality and the webcam would be of importance. Not expecting an oled at all haha but something average.

Info/Requirements

So i never had a laptop and i am not sure if what I want fits in my budget bracket. I want a nice picture, and nice chip for performance. Ram won't be an issue so like 8 to 12gb i guess and i want it to last me a long time. I can definetly take care of it and clean up dusty fans.

Laptop Request US ($1500-$1800 USD / USA) : Laptop for Daily Work, Gaming, Recreation, Multi-Tasking

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Country

USA

  • Budget

$1500 - $1800 USD

  • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Maybe? I'd prefer new, unless something refurbished is amazing (?) I'm new to that world.

  • Screen size

16", 17", 18"

  • Weight limit

Any

  • Purpose

General purpose, entertainment device, gaming

  • Form factor

Standard/Clamshell

  • Intended usage

The only MOBA I've played recently has been Smite - looking for 144 FPS +, and The Sims which I believe is also 144 FPS. I'd like to be able to multi-task from having a Youtube video, work, and maybe Discord or Steam open. My current laptop is barely able to allow me to Alt+Tab from one place to the other without freezing.

  • Desired battery life

Anything from 6 - X hours. I don't a monster that will burn through its battery in 2 hours, but have no issue having a solidly built machine that calmly can do a days work with some entertainment thrown in

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance > everything else. I'd prefer to not carry around a 50lb behemoth though

  • Info/Requirements

I would enjoy a nice screen quality with proper colors and resolution/refresh rate. I would prefer a number pad as well, but if that keeps me behind a 'quality barrier' for a better overall laptop-experience, I can be OK without one.
I do use another monitor that I plug into the HDMI of my laptop, so I would like that ability as well to connect to another monitor and/or perhaps even a 3rd (if there is a better per say 'docking' mode where I just use connected screens and the laptop is the 'hub' I'm fine with it, but my current one absolutely cannot power that and it struggles).
Is it a silly thing to also want a laptop to come with the Microsoft Office suite? My current doesn't have it, and it's a big pain.
I really am just looking for a nicely built machine that does 'daily driver' work well. I am sick and tired of freezing, chugging along and not being able to multi-task.

My current specs :
OS Name Microsoft Windows 11 Home
System Manufacturer HP
System Model HP Laptop 17z-cp000
System Type x64-based PC
System SKU 2Q7V8AV
Processor AMD Athlon Gold 3150U with Radeon Graphics, 2400 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
BaseBoard Manufacturer HP
BaseBoard Product 8844
BaseBoard Version 73.20
Platform Role Mobile
Secure Boot State On
PCR7 Configuration Elevation Required to View
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB
Total Physical Memory 13.9 GB
Total Virtual Memory 30.9 GB
Available Virtual Memory 12.2 GB
Page File Space 17.0 GB

No

  • Screen size

Light (under 3lbs)

  • Purpose

General and work

  • Form factor

Standard or 2 in 1

  • Intended usage

Looking to do work in Zbrush and Clip studio Paint, possibly Substance and adobe programs, with some light game dev in Godot. Light gaming but not the primary use.

  • Desired battery life

looking for 8+hrs when doing general purpose things with the understanding that will reduce when using above software

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance, Battery, Weight, Size

  • Info/Requirements

I want a really pretty, nice screen that will display colors correctly for art purposes. I'm not looking for the "best" laptop for Zbrush or 3D modeling, etc. I'm looking for a sweet spot that is good for that purpose but also lasts for more than 2 hours unplugged. If what I'm looking for is truly above my budget I'm willing to spend a bit more.

Laptop Request US Laptop is on borrowed time, any suggestions for a replacement?

Hello! I'm currently a university student and recently got a long dst check warning. This came after a list of issues as i've had it, so I figure it's on its way out and I should be looking to replace it soon. I would have liked to wait a bit closer to graduation which is still over a year away, but considering it's already gotten me this far since high school, no complaints from me.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Country
US
Budget
With a program I'm in at my university, I get up to $1,000 in reimbursement. to make the most out of it I am having that at the minimum. Ideally I'd find something to match that with (so ~$2,000) but I am willing to go a little higher.
refurbs/used options?
Unless I'm getting an insane deal, I would rather have new.
Screen size
Current is 15.6" I believe(?). Keeping within 14-16 would be great
Weight limit
I doubt any laptop will tear my shoulders off if I were to have it in a bag or tote, so any is fine.
Purpose
Easy answer would be a jack of all trades. I'm in school for a while but would like this to work well into my job, though the type of work I will be doing will not be much more intensive than now. I like to use my laptop for gaming in my free time so it'd be nice for the worse-performing ones to play well.
Form factor
Standard is fine, any more is just bonus
Intended usage
hopefully a $2000+ laptop is not struggling when writing documents and holding lesson plans (I am in education if I haven't said yet). On my current laptop it is a battle to play games like Fortnite as an example, even on lowest settings. Being able to play more would be awesome.
Desired battery life
My laptop can hardly go through 2 hours of consistent work without a charger, I'd really appreciate one that could go a day of class.

TLDR: Performance > Battery > Size/Weight, ~$2,000 ideally, useful mostly towards school but running games would be nice.
