Putting the end at the beginning of the video is for idiots.

u/Kidney__Failure 4d ago
I was just wondering about that. What’s the deal? Is it because people have such short attention spans now that you have to put the major thing at the beginning to hook them?
133
u/brick_gnarlson 4d ago
Yes. It's for tiktokers, those people are fucked.
13
u/SmokeAbeer 3d ago
I thought there was a bug on my screen.

u/Ordinary_dude_NOT 3d ago
It’s been a trend for a while. Sometimes they will even put an AI edited version of that clip in the beginning which will not even appear till the end.
Just a way to keep people hooked for watching the whole thing.

u/BurningPenguin 3d ago
We live in a time where people are using AI to write their fucking grocery list. I'm not surprised anymore...
2
u/not_gerg 3d ago
It's not necessarily that people won't watch the video at all, like some people here will say, but its more so that it's been shown to happen
Reels are about an attention thing, the most you get someone's attention, the better the pay off. So every trend that you see is another trick to keep someone attention. That's things like those 1 word captions, an increasing amount of compilation videos, ai narration, and obviously the "preview" you're seeing here
1
u/MrNiinjaGuy 2d ago
Yes we know WHY people do it. It's still for idiots.
0
u/not_gerg 2d ago
Not necessarily. It's made to play on people's brain
It doesn't matter if you're smart or dumb, can see through it or not, it still manipulates your attention, whether you realize it or not
1
u/Tapeworm1979 1d ago
It bassically links the video for repeats. More often that not by the time you get to the end, you have forgotten what brought you there. So you play it again to watch the very end as it stopped just short of the but at the start. Which increases the views.
At least that seems to be the Instagram trick.

u/The-King-of-Cartoons 3d ago
I’m so sick of this shit. Literally no one likes it, it’s all just in the name of the fucking almighty algorithm
1
u/MrNiinjaGuy 2d ago
If the algorithm is promoting it then it means a ton of people (idiots) do like it.

This new brainrot trend of putting a second from the middle of the video at the beginning needs to die yesterday

That’s the TikTok scroll. They need you snap your attention in the .5 seconds people are watching
Brain rotting indeed

why would the second guy try that when he saw the first guy flipping all the way down at the beginning of the video?

If you've ever had that happen to you, you can feel it just by watching the video. Utter helplessness. You cant stop, it doesnt hurt when the snow is soft its like you're caught up in a tornado of flips and when it finally stops and you didnt hit anything the relief is like nothing else.

I can't believe he stopped the tomahawk fall that quickly, once you get the rotational momentum like that you usually have to hit a tree or another mountain to stop.
40
u/Usual_Office_1740 4d ago
Is that seriously the term for that kind of fall and what are the chances this guy is uninjured because it looks like he should be dead.
35
u/Jrodicon 4d ago
I used to do a fair amount of big mountain skiing, I’ve tomahawked my fair share of times. When the snow is nice and soft like in the OP then it really doesn’t hurt much at all. If you hit rocks that’s bad news, but the actual rag dolling is actually the safest way to tumble, keep everything loose. As I’ve gotten a bit older I could see throwing my back out doing something like that now, but in my 20s I never worried about that.

u/Bobbi_fettucini 3d ago
One year when I worked up at the ski hill we built a hit off the side of this cat track, the side we were jumping off was so steep you’d be catching like 50ft of air but the snow was so deep there was no consequences, it was so much fun

u/T_Noctambulist 4d ago
I've seen it called that several times over the last decade or so, but maybe it has another name? I remember an old video of a dog following a skier that went into a full spin like that and just disappeared down the mountain.
3
u/Usual_Office_1740 4d ago
This seems like a fall that often ends with a free helicopter ride. I hope it happens infrequently.
3
u/AngryDerf 4d ago
Those helicopter rides are free? I thought they got home from the hospital to a massive bill in the mailbox.
2
u/Usual_Office_1740 4d ago
That's just a certificate of achievement with a score. High score wins a free pony to be delivered at a later date.

u/Ghostdragon471 4d ago
The chances for him to be completely uninjured is very small, as for the name, I have no idea. It looks fitting.

u/t-pollack 4d ago
They didn't post it, but he got up, attempted it again and nailed it. He was all good.
Edit: our boy Marcus G

u/Usual_Office_1740 4d ago
It does look fitting. I read further down that snow is soft. Hopefully there are no hidden rocks or hard things. I watched the skier flip his hood back and was flabbergasted that his arms worked.
6
u/letitgrowonme 3d ago
Quick question. Are you unfamiliar with snow?
6
u/Usual_Office_1740 3d ago
I'm familiar with snow. I have zero experience with snow at that kind of altitude. I don't go in for winter sports of any kind. I assumed snow up there would be hard. It gets hard and crusty were I live sometimes.

it looks to me like he got lucky enough to land on his feet and react in time, bending his knees killing his momentum

Still not as fast as that older lady who started spinning while being rescued by helicopter.

The snow was soft and they got lucky.

u/fmaz008 3d ago
There is almost no impact, and the very little there is is heavily absorbed by the very soft snow.
The most painful part was probably the landing leading to losing the skis, as the skis for this have a high DIN and landing in your skis will spread the load accross a bigger surface, the skis becoming a firmer surface. (Imagine diving in water vs diving into a piece of 4x8 plywood floating on the water.

u/beansandpeasandegg 3d ago
It looks worse than it is. Thats unridden powder snow on top of a well established base. Those spinning falls dont hurt in the slightest and unless you crash into a tree or go off a cliff its easy to come out unscathed.

Going to be a long walk down. He should have done what the second guy did and stayed on his skis. Any other time would be great to show off his flipping skills.

Does this really count as skiing? I can't ski and I could tumble down a hill like this. Hell I have tumbled down steeper rock faces and flat salt lake beds.

Anyone else wondering how in such a situation you get your ski back / or how you get the ski cleared that the next one isn't crashing into them ?

u/Bobbi_fettucini 3d ago
Honestly I would love to ride down that, I wouldn’t be hitting no 360’s but damn would that fun to ride down
1
u/Top_Meaning7972 3d ago
I will give his gymnastics an 8.4 because his execution lacked a clean dismount and the tumbling rotation was entirely unintentional

I used this clip back in 2005 or so in a fake commercial for Marketing class where our product was a kinetic powered phone (Kinnect!). I grew up skiing and went to college in a mountain town.

Huh, it looks an awful lot like one from an old maybe Poor Boyz video of that era, although I don't remember him getting right back up and they probably weren't even trying a lot of 720s off natural hits like that back then. I mean, I used it because it looked just like this.
