Homebrew Game [Release] NFS Most Wanted 2012 (Android version) – homebrew port for Switch

Post image

I've been working on a port of the **Android version** of *Need for Speed: Most Wanted* (2012, Firemonkeys' mobile game, v1.3.128) to the Nintendo Switch, and it's now available on GitHub.

It's not a phone emulator: the game's own 32-bit ARM code is translated on the fly for the Switch's CPU (with Dynarmic), and the parts of Android the game needs (files, OpenGL ES graphics, sound, input) are rebuilt natively for the Switch.

**GitHub (download, install guide, source):** https://github.com/SantiBros/NFSMostWanted2012-Android-Switch

**No game files are included.** You need your own copy of the Android game: the APK and the OBB, or a single `.xapk`. Only the Android version works, not the PC/PS3/X360/Vita/Wii U ones. Please don't ask for game files.

**Features**

- 720p handheld, 1080p docked

- Full controller support, including every menu (the touch screen still works)

- Optional gyro steering

- Easy setup: copy your APK and OBB into one folder, and the port sets itself up on the console at the first start

- Fully offline: every online service is blocked

- Debug menu (ZL + ZR + Minus) with performance settings, clocks and an FPS counter

**Coming later today: version 0.2.6**

- Fewer short stutters while the counter shows 30 FPS

- Sound no longer breaks up when the graphics are busy

- A sound volume setting to stop the crackling at loud moments

- Cleaner sound with less delay

Updating will be easy: copy the new `switch` folder over the old one. Your game files and saves are kept.

**Install**

  1. Download the latest `NFSMostWanted2012-<version>.zip` from Releases and copy its `switch` folder to the root of your SD card.

  2. Put your APK and OBB (or `.xapk`) in `switch/NFSMostWanted2012/game/`.

  3. Hold **R** while launching any game (title takeover; Album/applet mode doesn't have enough memory) and open **NFS Most Wanted 2012 Loader**.

Needs Atmosphère. It's experimental, so use emuMMC and back up your SD card.

Feedback is very welcome, especially from different consoles. If something goes wrong, please open an issue on GitHub and attach the `log.txt` from the port's folder.

Why is everyone calling wrappers ports now ?

possibly a watering down effect of vibe coding. the more people doing and discussing what they know nothing about, the more blended and simplified the language becomes. not to say op doesn't know what they're talking about, just that a lot of people recently, don't.

Is it really a port if it's being translated?

Runs better than an full blown emulator so icl but being a wrapper sounds ok for me lol

"the game's own 32-bit ARM code is translated on the fly for the Switch's CPU (with Dynarmic)"

This is the definition of an emulator, like, the concept of taking a machine that takes instructions from one architecture, and executes the equivalent instruction of another architecture, on the fly, IS, well the concept behind CPU emulation
