The phishing attempts have begun
Attached is a screenshot of an email I just received. Note the address of the sender. Please do not click links in this email if you get one. It is not legit. This is a phishing attempt.

It boggles my mind that we have all this technology and ai etc. But are not able to filter out such emails before they reach the users screen.

Companies do filter these things. You're just seeing the remainder of the unfiltered ones. It'd be much worse without their filtering....

AI also helps making dumb and lazy people make more stupid and lazy.
ETA: to the deletd answer: I never said it‘s elderly people. Usually it‘s the younger generation abusing LLMs instead of thinking, elderly people don‘t like new stuff that much. „Das neumödische Zügs da“

I didn't delete the answer. Still sad that you blame the victims. It happens to the best of us. Absolutely dumb to think preventing scams is bad, doesn't matter how you turn it.

I blame AI, not any victims. Don‘t know where you read it out. AI won‘t help filter out scam, or just the ones that don‘t pay to go pass the filter.

It's surprisingly tricky to get right without risking an annoying false positive rate or spending ridiculous amounts of resources checking each email. For example, you could of course ask Claude/Gemini/ChatGPT for each email, and it would likely be quite good - but now keep in mind that sending spam is basically free, while these AI APIs cost money per token.
You can of course play around with text embeddings running on your server, but that will eat quite some more cycles on your server than e.g. some bayes classifier.
TL;DR: It's free to send spam, it costs money/resources to reliably check for spam -> it all comes down how much you're willing to spend.

This email was sent this morning at 10:25. Pay attention to the “from:” line on all of your emails.

The from line is great to catch scams, but pls keep in mind that this is set by the sender. Reputable e-mail services should reject emails where they can detect that the email couldn't have come from that address, but there is no guarantee.
If a scamer sends a wrong email, they will not recieve any replies to them.

I already got several spam calls. Usually they just hang up immediately after I answer. Probably to confirm the number is active, so they can resell it for a higher price

I also got a call from an unknown number this morning and, as usual, ignored it. It's very possible that it's related to the latest data leaks.

Do you use that email address exclusively for Ricardo? If so, receiving this could suggest that email addresses were also exposed, despite Ricardo saying the breach only affected names, postal addresses and phone numbers.
Otherwise, this may just be a broad phishing campaign exploiting the news, or your email may have already been linked to your name, address or phone number through a previous breach. I use Hide My Email for Ricardo and haven’t received anything so far.

Same rule I use for everything: never click the link in the mail, even if it looks right. If it's supposedly my bank or a parcel, I just open the app or type the site myself. Takes ten seconds and kills pretty much every phishing attempt.

Yeah it's been hitting me too, but mostly on spam + phonecalls.
Don't assume that domains will always be the crazy ones. If you're not expecting something always assume fraud.

Cancelled my account soon after the information about the hack came out. Out data are still stolen but they don’t get any more rappen from me.

Here in the US email is dying a slow death. Even at work. I get so many emails that people know they need to send you a message to get something done. Making filters is just an arms race. The filter works for a while and then you need yet another one. The spammers are killing the exact thing they use to spam with. “Sorry I didn’t see/get/can’t find an email” is a perfectly valid and accepted excuse now.
I noticed right away when I moved from Switzerland back to the US. The younger crowd doesn’t use it also. I worked at Apple and was surprised that people wouldn’t respond to emails. This was back in 2018. My boss recommended messaging and then I’d get a response.

Not true outside of Apple. Everything here works with emails

I've worked at 3 places since then including Tesla and AMD. The same is happening everywhere. Maybe it's your company that is still stuck? How many emails do you get every day? Sounds like less. What is the average age of people you work with? That's also a huge factor. Younger people don't use email.
The capacity of email and junk email has long surpassed what a normal human can deal with. Even if you filter, your filter hits false positives and then you miss emails you want. It's broken.0

- We are not in the US where vendors of food poisin their consumers.
- In business process their are legal obligations like keeping documentation of all biz relevant communication. That explicitly includes e-mail. And with messenger apps that documentation falls short often.
- In case you have to sue there is no „sorry, bro, lost my phone or backup.

Do you just pick random Americans to vent your frustrations to? 😂 I can find plenty to complain about with Switzerland 🇨🇭 but I'm not going to push it on you. 🙄

"The phishing attempts have begun" - Eh.. I doubt that this has to do with the hack. That's just a normal phishing mail like those we got for the last few years. If it had to do with the hack, there would be your real name in it and a more personal approach.
