Generally accepted TV placement procedures. Quick reference guide.

Lots of people posting lately asking “Is this too high?” so here is a quick guide on what is generally accepted TV placement procedure (GATPP) as seemingly defined by this subreddit.

If the TV is above the fireplace, IT IS TOO HIGH.
If the TV is angled down, IT IS TOO HIGH.
If the TV is mounted to the wall above a TV stand, and the clearance between the stand and TV is equal to, or greater than ONE vertical PS5, IT IS TOO HIGH.
If when standing the TV is at eye level, IT IS TOO HIGH.

Now let’s look at some opposite GATPP use cases.

If the TV is in a bedroom and meant to be viewed from the bed, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
If the TV’s only viewing position is in the reclined state, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
If you are at a sports bar, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
If the TV is at eye level when sitting down, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
If the TV is in the kitchen it is more for listening, mounted high as to avoid any splashes or spills, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
If the TV is purposely mounted higher to keep out of range of a toddler, you’re a parent so your neck already hurts and IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.

Saw this on Facebook reels which is a funny prank, but I failed to enjoy it due to the monumentally stupid position of the TV.

Please help me convince my wife I don't need to raise this.

The midpoint of this 85" TV is 50.5", which is already above the ideal range, but we had to mount it at least this high so it will sit above our stand and soundbar that is 24.5". We need to mount because we have two kids under 2 that also play in this basement.

My wife is adamant it's too low. I think it might be due to the "optical illusion" with the size of the TV and having 9-foot ceilings, and no TV stand/furniture currently in place as we finish the rest of the basement.

We'll have a couch with a 20.5" seat height, so it will be objectively fine (if not already 1-2 inches "too high").

Edit (Update): The TV will stay as is.

Friend's Home Office

Went to my friend's house for a hot tub night, he told me the rough story of the new TV: "I went to JB HiFi to get a charger, and was sold a new TV and soundbar... the salesman was really friendly."

Ended up watching a rough edit of an upcoming film titled the 'The Hang Out'.
