Short A customer came back 3 hours later because i gave him four nickels too much change
I work part time at a small store and this older guy bought a few things this morning. Nothing unusual. A couple hours later I was behind the counter playing Big Roller on my phone when he comes back in, walks straight up to me and puts two dimes on the counter. I thought he wanted to buy something else. He tells me I gave him too much change earlier. Four nickels, I laughed and told him he seriously didnt need to drive back for that but he said he noticed it when he got home and it would bother him all day if he kept it.
Then he just left. I stood there looking at the two dimes like an idiot for a second. Ive had people scream at me over coupons worth less than that. This guy spent gas money to return 20 cents that nobody even knew was missing.

A man has a code.
I’ve definitely given back bills when I’ve noticed it was too much, but to notice twenty cents…good on him.

I had a lady buy a bag of ice. It got rang up wrong so we did a refund for her. She could remember what she had bought. Two days later she came in to pay for the bag of ice when she figured it out. She is gruff at times but dang is she honest.

A lady waited in line at the coffee shop to ask the cashier for her friends 40 cents back. He initially told her to keep the change but later when he got home thought better of it and asked his friend to go back and ask for the money back.

I would mount them on his #1 customer award and hang it on the wall as an example to all the lazy normal customers LOL

Aww. He was worried your drawer would be off, and didnt want you to get in trouble. That's nice

You need to befriend that guy. People of integrity are rare these days.

I’m stuck on the fact that you gave 4 nickels as change….why not give 2 dimes?

Lt's do a creative thought exercise where we attempt to answer your question.
I propose that there was only one dime in the till at the time.
Why did OP not give one dime and two nickels? Cause f--- him, that's why.
Your turn.

A lot of nickels and no dimes. I've had that happen many times when I worked retail.

And why did OP call it 4 nickels the whole story and then call it dimes when he “stood there looking” at the end?

That’s what the customer gave him. “when he comes back in, walks straight up to me and puts two dimes on the counter.”

Today I pulled in to get gas. I thought it was weird it wanted me to select my grade fuel before putting my card in. It started pumping until it hit $6 and some change. Then I went thru the normal process to add my card and pump more. I went inside and asked the cashier if I owed that $6 or if someone prepaid too much, he said he didn’t know but I didn’t owe. It’s only $6 but I’d have rather that gone to someone who needed it.

A few weeks ago I was sitting behind the counter at my market and a customer walked up to me and handed me a nut, like the metal fastener kind of nut.
They said, “I found this in the parking lot and I didn’t want anyone to step on it”
I took the nut and said “thanks for looking out”

Had a young guy hand in a phone he found outside. Lady was so grateful. I kept saying it was a young guy because younger people get so much hate.

No one knows how to count change anymore!!! Or ring up the right price without a scanner! And god forbid they give them a few dollars and expect to get the right change back!?!?
We’re practically illiterate now and stupid as far as money is concerned!
It will all even out when you only are able to pay with a credit card….
Duh….!

My daughter ( now 42) learned how to count money before she even was in kindergarten!
Some effort on the parents is required… and only if THEY know how to count money before!!!
