Discussion Do you know any other bands that use 9-string guitars apart from Rings Of Saturn?

I got a 9-string recently.
I’m a tech-death guitarist, starting to compose some stuff for my band (@sonatium_band on Instagram).
I want to know if any tech-death or tech-deathcore bands use 9-strings.
I think it would be fun to learn a song or two and also gain influence from the bands.
Recently i saw some guys on instagram called Surface The Sun; they play great, but the sound is just basically Rings Of Saturn.
PD: I know Rings Of Saturn isn’t tech-death lol. Mentioned them because they’re the only major band that i know plays technical music with 9-string guitars

Scott Plummer from Viraemia used a 10 string bass, I've seen vids.

Bless his soul, incredible musician.

Not tech-death at all but Nitheful

Also, Coma Cluster Void use custom built 10 string guitars. If they're still technical death metal or too experimental for that, I don't know

As someone who plays drums, why dont u just get a bass at this point lol.

Timbre. The same fundamental on a bass sounds much fuller and richer than on a guitar. Dick from Meshuggah plays most of the 8-string material on a 4-string bass tuned a half-step up from Standard and they would sound noticably thinner without it!

I was just jokin but thanks for the info. Have always felt bass feeling more full compared to 8str guitars and such but didnt know why, thats why apperantly.

Jean Baudin of Nuclear Rabbit (also not tech death at all) used an 11-string bass guitar

Coma Cluster Void uses 10 strings and it's a weird fucked up tuning. Pretty cool stuff.

Obesity from Mexico uses a 9 string. Check out their Duckinvasion album.

Alfred from Obesity is actually a very good friend of mine! Sick music from them

Matt Pike did in the earlier High on Fire albums. It was a lot of fun to watch live.

OP means a different type of 9 string. The Matt Pike one has the top 3 strings doubled up like how a 12 string would be whereas the 9 string OP is referring to adds three lower tuned strings

not really tech death, but I'm pretty sure After The Burial uses 9 strings on some of their songs

ATB have used nine strings for so long that Justin Lowe (RIP) had a signature model. The demo video Ibanez did where he jams Neo Seoul was my first real introduction to djent besides the memes and I still love it

Darko US has some songs on 9 strings.

Rings of Saturn uses a laptop and GuitarPro to export the MIDI files and run them through a DAW. I don't think there's any guitar involved after the Lugal album

I mean, Miles Dmitri Baker’s guitar playing on Ultu Ulla is objectively impressive

Not tech death but the band UneXpect was a montreal avant-garde group that used a 9 string bassist, and they are one of my all time favourites.

The bassist also has a new progressive/industrial project called Vvon Dogma I.

Thank you so much! I was looking for 9-string guitars, but I’ll definitely check them out

Fables Of The Sleepless Empire is a masterpiece.

It really is fucking incredible, I don't throw it on enough because it's not on spotify for some reason. I have it sitting in my WMP with like a grand total of 5 other albums lol.

He used a 9 string on the Perfect War Forever EP by Glass Cloud as well

They’re not tech death but After The Burial has some stuff on a 9 string, may be worth looking at.

AtB is who I always think of - Justin Lowe did the demo if Ibanez’s first 9-string if I remember correctly
