Sick man. How would you advise learning guitar nowadays

I started with lessons for about 8 months until my teacher got a new job. After that i was self taught i used to know how to read music back in the day the author was dick bennet his books were called guitar for the small fry i did a couple of those. Then i got into learning metallica/megadeth/maiden songs. 8 years later i stumbled upon this guy ben higgins on youtube from gmc guitar. He had online lessons where youd basically get tabs for awesome solos. That guy was my idol and i subscribed to his lessons obsessing over being the best lead guitar player i could spent hours trying to master my left hand and right hand (Right hand still needs some work lol). That was about 5-6 years until one day in 2021 my friend showed me necrophagist. Since then its all been learning necro songs and getting more into death metal and thats where im at now.

Theres no right or wrong way to learn you just gotta pick it up and practice thats just been my journey over the last 20 years.

Yes drums and bass are programmed and i can give you a run down of the gear im using. For the drums im using ez drummer 3 with toontrack death metal ezx expansion pack. Ill write the drums in guitar pro export it as a midi file and convert it on midiremap.com then its just plug and play in ableton. Bass plug in is umansky bass from submission audio the phone camera doesnt do it justice but its very good imo. The guitars are recorded with an sm57 straight into the interface i like to put the mic at the outside of the cone to get more mids and the vocals are recorded using an sm58

just leaving a second comment here in case you are interested in a real life bass player (i play 6 string bass and have the exact dingwall used in the umansky plugin) or just a death metal friend. i’d love to learn these parts and am writing similar music on guitar currently. can’t dm you but if you can dm me and are interested hit me up bro

I used to collab but one of my songs was used by a previous band i was in. It ended up being in a movie and i got 0 credit for it when that was my only stipulation ive been a one man show ever since

hell yeah bro i appreciate the in depth response! i’ve heard good things about ez drummer and these sound great so i’m going to check it out. i’ve been using the invasion kit from getgood drums which sounds good but not quite as punchy as i like, yours really cut through the mix without being too much. i’m mainly a guitarist but also pretty proficient on bass, i actually have the exact bass used by umansky and would love to learn the parts if you ever want a real bassist

You are very welcome. I think that you have some very original and extreme music.

I think that I hear like a mixture of Origin and Necrophagist.

"It's heavy and that's what matters."
