although it might sound a bit blunt, I view furries and cosplayers and such like they just play advanced dress up... It's probably more than that but I don't see how I can have a problem with it. Let people have a hobby, a way to just be themselves, whatever idc
In my mind things are only bad if they are harmful to others. If you are doing something on your own without doing any harm to anyone (or any animal) then do whatever you want.
Just being subjectively weird or unappealing to me personally doesn't give me rights to express hate or bully them about it. It's the people who think they're entitled to take rights away from others simply for how they look or sound that are the actual bottom of our society.
Oh yeah it’s 100% just glorified dress up, i never really dressed up as a kid because the whole princess and superhero things never appealed to me but when I found out about furries it was SO cool to me
I think it’s not the creation of the art or the making of the costumes that’s weird. I think where it typically crosses the line weird-line, for a lot of people and who aren’t a part of that subculture, is the level of immersion that some people go to. Think crossing the line of art/hobby into lifestyle.
I am also not saying I agree or disagree. Just trying to add perspective.
I’m curious as what your intention was with posting this poll because many of your responses are coming across very defensive.
That being said, I think where people get turned off is when it becomes a part of daily public life and other people are exposed to it.
For example, you brought up vegans. Vegans get a bad track record with the general public. People stare at punks. Average people tend to not like to be exposed to lifestyles different from their own. Its human nature. I’m not saying it’s right I’m saying that this creates a social friction. There is a stigma.

One example might be role-playing in public spaces makes people uncomfortable. I used to be friends with a furry on social media who started role-playing on his public Facebook through comments that would show up in my feed randomly with his furry partner, and it was very uncomfortable. Also general bad behavior in public spaces. I don’t think the furry community is the only community guilty of it because sometimes there’s a lot of people in the cosplay anime community who also disrupt public spaces.

but also in cosplay you are dressing up as a person, not a dog.
I personally don't mind furries as a concept but when I see someone with ears on, a tail and a leash being held by a partner crawling around in my local shopping center, that's when it gets increasingly weird and uncomfortable.
It's one of the weirder hobbies sure, but hey you don't bother me I don't bother you. Also some fur suits actually look cool ngl, depends case to case.

Furries themselves are perfectly fine. There is some weird stuff within the community, but I don’t hate all furries because that would be a massive overgeneralization.
The only issue I've ever had was at a convention years ago when a group of furries would touch everyone around them without consent. There was one point where they surrounded a guy who tripped and started touching him with their hands despite how obviously uncomfortable the guy was. I view this as a valid issue, but I will also concede that I have not known any furry since that touches people they don't know randomly.
As a gay furry, it is weird I will admit. But most furries in my experience are decent people. And people marginalizing the furry community for the few that are bad people are making a stupid decision because there are so many more wonderful people here
Idk the difference between certain things like a therian/furry whatever and idk but as far as I'm concerned, it's a hobby and a form of community where people relate to others over which animals they resonate with in spirit. If someone were to expect that I refer to them as whatever animal they identify with, I would see them as absurd and question their mental state. Nobody has done that though so I'm not even sure it's something normal people of these communities expect
I think therians... I THINK (don't know, don't quote me) therians are spiritually connected to animals, but us furries just like anthropomorphic animals a whole bunch. Who doesn't like giant fluffy little guys? Also, pretty sure nobody will say that they're an animal lol
There is really very little correlation between furries and zoophilia, the furry fandom as a whole cares a lot about animals and is very against animal abuse
I'm not saying that all furries are zoophiles, it's just those few individuals who ruin it for the rest. Stereotypes exist for a reason, it's only those few who are all of the problem.

I don’t hate Furrys. Sometimes I hate bad behavior by a furry, but an identity and behavior are mutually exclusive, even if the behavior is perhaps more common in a population. The identity does not mean that the behavior is guaranteed.
I admire how creative and cool the community seems, but i have never had a particular interest in it myself. One of my best friends is a furry and he's an extremely talented artist. I love that he can use it as an outlet for his creativity
Edgy? 12 year olds? Im not sure what fandom you're talking about, but that's not all furries. Furries can be adults, and there are definitely some edgy people here, but that's not all of us

I didn't vote but I think it gets to a point where you literally have people wanting litter boxes to use the bathroom... it's a bit sick. I don't really like cosplaying/fursuits in general but that's besides the point. Unfortunately there are furries that are problematic and create stereotypes for the whole group, and that kinda happens with anything.

Also for anyone wondering, to be a furry, you dont need a fursuit, lots dont have one (theyre really expensive), all you need to classify as a furry is liking/appreciating anthropomorphic animals and wanting to be furry (if you dont want to be a furry and still very much like anthro animal in some way, thats perfectly fine)
I used to be a hater, then I met some people that were furrys and therians (not when the therian thing became mainstream, this was like 2021) and although they were a bit weird to me, nice people overall. Now I let people do whatever they want and I'm happier and they're happier too

I used to, but then Joe bart changed my mind. He stated simply that it doesn’t affect me at all. I agree with that, and I was just being stupid. Might it be a bit weird, sure. But live your life and let others live theirs.
It's not my cup of tea, but it's a bit like consplaying, i think. Also, for little i know about it, it requires a lot of time and effort for building costumes. Also, i think they are really heavy.

I used to be on the furry hate train, but realized I was just being a follower, people can dress up for Halloween, or whatever but for some reason dressing up as an animal when you arent being a sexy cat for Halloween is shamed? People also ignorantly assume its a sexual thing, I also thought that but took the time to listen to the community and correct my ignorance.
Nothing wrong with being a furry in private. Doing so in public is fucked up. It's not Halloween everyday. Kids should not see a mascot everywhere they go and think "hey that is normal" no it is not. If I were a parent I would not want my kid to be dressing up in public in a fur suit thinking that is okay.
It is extremely cringe and repulsive for an adult to dress as such in public.
Question, do you believe mascots should be banned from public events?
I grew up with the chuck e cheese mascot and I thought nothing more than "oh thats someone having fun in a costume", we dress up for Halloween, we have mascots all football season, people standing in mascots suits outside to promote a business should be banned too then right?
