I love Salvation, I said what I said

I always kept telling myself, they had done THIS as Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines and made Terminator 4 Salvation into a Kyle Reese story ending with him going through the time machine closing the loop it would have been magnificent.

The problem with Salvation is that they were just trying to set up a new trilogy of movies. So all of the cool future war sequences we had seen in T1 and T2 were toned down for Salvation because it was supposed to be the start of the war or something. I agree T3 should have been a future war movie, but it should have been a conclusion. Not another trilogy, an ENDING to the terminator story. It should have been Return of the King, but with robots and lasers.

I would have LOVED to seen a movie centered around the ending of the war and how humanity rebuilds.

Me too… I would’ve preferred that over trying to reboot it repeatedly. I try not to hate on the later films, I still think they’re entertaining, I just feel like there is a story that we never get to see.

Yes, there is nothing more frightening than a killer robot, grabbing our main character, and despite it having no legs, simply throwing him a few meters away, to continue crawling towards him. Ohh boy, i hope it does not get it's hands on him again so it can... oh shit, it got him again... there he goes, being throw away again.. phew, that was exiting. Now, let me sit back and enjoy the rest of this movie, completely unaware of any potential polt twists, that deffenitly was not spoiled in the trailer!
Everything after T2 is an insult to your intelligence.

I also hated it in T1, where the T-800 has Reese within grabbing distance, and instead it just pimp slaps him across the face.
1
u/AduMosha 8d ago
Let's not forget t-800 just kept throwing the nut guy instead of just shooting, and the introduction scene of t-800 in T2.
1
u/The_Kevinator_1000 8d ago
True, although at least it was understandable in T2 because he was meant to be the good guy. Showing him murdering multiple people in the opening might've made him less likeable.
1
u/AduMosha 7d ago
you basically said the same reason (sacrificing logic for movie purposes) people hate on salvation terminator. Ironic isn't it 😆
Also T1 t-800 never struck someone's heart more than once in the movie but people keep bringing that for some reason..
1
u/The_Kevinator_1000 7d ago
I think sacrificing logic for character development is a bit better than sacrificing logic just to artificially pad out a scene.

Yeah the movie was really good, don't know why people hated it. And the plot twist is fucking genius.

We lost out on a trilogy of future war films with Bale as Connor and Anton as Reece

Me too. It's great to see terminator salvation fans.
I absolutely love the t-rip endoskeleton , CGI arnold, terminators, t-600, Moto- terminator, harvester, Marcus, John Connor look.
I really really hope it gets a second chance for it's planned sequels with that beautiful t-rip endoskeleton design.

u/100carpileup 7d ago
That T600 was the scariest terminator in the whole series to me, that thing was nasty

The most annoying trend in this franchise is the killer death robot getting its steal-crushing hands on a squishy, crunchy, fleshy bone person and then tossing them a few metres away. This one’s especially egregious because the terminator has no fucking legs. You’re trying to terminate the meat sack who can run away from you and your plan is to throw him away from you? Then you’re going to crawl after him and hope you can snatch him so again you can, what, toss him the other way?
3
u/The_Kevinator_1000 9d ago
It's competing with the other robots; they're betting on who can throw main characters the farthest.

u/_axeman_ 9d ago
It's always annoyed me that the terminators just chuck characters around all the time. Like if you get a hold of a human, just crush their head or their ribcage, or pull off a chunk of something. Such annoying plot armor.

Let autonomous humanoid death machines express themselves how they want, not in adherence to your delicate sensibilities

u/TheCosmicRobo 8d ago
It always bugged me that the Terminator doesn't seem to have a predator-like heat-based vision to see hiding humans.
4
u/JackieLawless 9d ago
Right? In T1, the T800 puts a hole through one of the punks stomachs.
After that, it's all just throws.
6
u/The_Kevinator_1000 9d ago
T1 is guilty of this too, though, instead of grabbing Reese by the neck and crushing him at the end when he's hitting it with the pipe, it literally just pimp-slaps him in the face.

The heft and weight of metal really feels in this movie for the terminators. I always loved Salvation for that

u/Kindly-Reality1984 9d ago
Especially when the TRIP was climbing up the stairs and you can see it's feet. The original 1984 Terminator movie had the endoskeleton feeling like it was made of aluminum. It's feet sounded so light going up the stairs towards Kyle.

I really liked this movie. I wish they had made another one.

u/Cheap-Warning-4291 9d ago
Agree. I would love to see a movie set during resistance.
I’m tired of the same movie every single time again.
That’s why Salvation is the 3rd best for me.

u/rbktn168 9d ago
This has got to be one of the worst scenes ever in the franchise. Plot armor maxed out. Absolutely zero logic.
1
u/coolgobyfish 8d ago
what about about Marcus surviving stepping on a mine, getting its insides blown out, fire bombed, hit by a giant Harvester-bot....... yet passing out when hit by T800 in the chest at the factory and dying from giving its heart to John. Like, he clearly doesn't need human organs to live.
5
u/Kindly-Reality1984 9d ago
I didn't know the T600 likes to throw too. So this is the original Throwinator huh?
3
u/rbktn168 9d ago
The T-RIP threw John 5 times. He's the king of Throwminators.
2
u/Kindly-Reality1984 9d ago
He's the new and improved Throwinator. To be fair the T600 didn't have legs and made 2 throws.
2
u/Mr_A_B_Ductor 8d ago
How comes this stupidity into this robot's progam, "if you run any enemy human, just throw away so far as you can, maybe human will escape somehow", instead of got his throat???
2
u/Kindly-Reality1984 9d ago
If the T600 "Throwinator" model had simply grabbed Bale's ankle and crushed it to dust, the movie ends right there.

Bro why are you putting this huge ass warning under your comments?
I saw you other comments as well from before today and they don't have this warning, meaning you put it yourself to look cool

u/QuasyChonk 9d ago
This sequence is so stupid. Throwminator and John bothering to shoot it with a pistol.
1
u/trulyuniqueusername2 9d ago
I don’t disagree but the original introduced the Terminator as something that punched through a man’s rib cage to get his friends to give up their clothes and capable of breaking bones with its grip and at the end of the film it’s pimp-slapping Sarah Connor’s hobbling and wounded protector rather than punching through his chest or head or crushing his spine.
We have to suspend our disbelief in the obvious sometimes.

u/rbktn168 9d ago
It's nowhere near as egregious as how post T2 sequels do it. The whole franchise has always had trouble with depicting terminators, whether they should be effective or not. And the plot armor of humans which has been there since day one. But this is just laughable. This scene already has the terminator grab him and throw him twice instead of common sense being to just squeeze and turn him into mincemeat. Later they have the T-800 throw John so many times, I counted 5 to 6 times the T-800 threw him around, they even have the T-800 punch him but nothing happens. And that's without injury too which is just even more egregious plot armor. This is not suspension of disbelief, the movie is trash and they know humans can't win against terminators in any realistic way which is why they do this lazy crap throw the protagonist around, and that's literally double dose plot armor too because the throws alone should severely injure or kill him. They have the T-800 just walk without running at all after John Connor even though it can run faster than humans, it's super annoying to me. This franchise is terrible at depicting terminators and has became worse and worse with each sequel.

Always loved how the terminator has to crawl a lot to reach its target and when he gets to it, throws him far away so he has to crawl some more, twice

I will more likely look like the terminator, but no red glowing eyes and no power cell and completely stationary.

u/e_pluribus_nihil 9d ago
I'm pretty sure Bill Paxton's character would have very much appreciated to just have been thrown around.
1
u/Quirky_Mud_6827 5d ago
Lol, I actually liked it this movie I don't understand why there's so much hate on Terminator salvation
1
u/BigGingerYeti 9d ago
I'll never stop being angry at Terminators that toss John Connor around instead of just killing him.

You are a great optimist if you see yourself as the leader of the resistance against AI.
