No! A Ferrari is a purpose built race car you can drive on the street ( most models ) or the track. This abomination is just a kit car built to preform a stunt and serves no other purpose. You’d have to be stupid to even get near this thing with that amount of pressure more or less actually drive it.

This is wrong. The entire point of the suction on the bottom and the dynamic spoiler and vents and even the rear thrusters is to be a superior racing car. This will easily smoke any Ferrari at what Ferrari wants to do best - race.

The McMurtry Spéirling will smoke this and already exists today, I watched the Hagerty walk through just now and there skirt system for active downforce is the whole bottom of the car (very inefficient) and skirts are disposable, McMurtry has a better system.

That’s nice goal post moving. The op said Ferrari not some car 99% of the population never heard of but nice try. I’ll trust the rocket scientists of space x over whatever backyard garage your mentioned designers worked out of.

I suggest you do you research, McMurtry is far more than a backyard garage they set records at Goodwood and did the driving upside down trick last year, Elon is just a follower in active downforce.

Just one quick question, can that car fly?

1

u/waitses 1d ago

To be fair the Roadster cannot fly, it can hop and they did not go into details about how long, my guess is not much more than what was in the demo, and then you have to refill it for 7 hours. You should watch the Hagerty video released today where he talks to Lars Moravy where they go into the details. Honestly I am more impressed with it after the interview than the demo. Still the cold gas thrusters are just a gimmick and my bet is the full flight version will never be allowed by regulators.

The McMurtry has worse performance metrics than the Roadster and can’t fly, so idk why you think it’s better other than it already being in production lol

u/Finglishman 1d ago

McMurtry has a couple of things going for it though: 1) you can buy (rather than reserve) one and they’ll deliver it next year and 2) you can go around a track roughly as fast as a Formula 1 car with it. Most people can’t physically take the g forces it generates for more than for a lap or two, so I doubt there’s a lot of appetite for something even faster - which I bet the Tesla Roadster around a track with corners won’t be anyway.

u/ProphePsyed 1d ago
  1. Yeah that’s something
  2. Based on the specs, it’s going to be

Worse performance metrics, interesting what off the line speed, doesn't matter for shit, I can just look at the Roadster and tell that the Spéirling will rip it's face off in cornering where it counts.

2

u/ProphePsyed 1d ago

No I mean look up the specs for both on all metrics. The roadster has better performance specs all around.

The first wright brothers flight was 12 seconds and 120'.

No one says that was "just a hop"

On that 7 hours to recharge... you forgot to mention the next part of that sentence. How convenient... almost like you ignore the good and will only say the bad. What a reddit surprise!

Ducted fans on cars have been a thing since the 70’s, and still are (ie the Spierling) but there are reasons why they aren’t more common. This is a publicity stunt.

1

u/quantgorithm 1d ago

Nice strawman.

Did cars hang upside down in the 70's

Did cars fly in the 70's?
I mean... You had dukes of hazzard... But that wasn't flying.

Now you do.

Now who does? This demo vehicle is too loud for human drivers.

This is a spacex publicity stunt built into an automobile shape.

1

u/quantgorithm 1d ago

and look at you talking about it!

1

u/SonicDethmonkey 1d ago

Exactly. Anyone who thinks they’re going to use this anywhere other than a closed course is a fool. It’s a highly successful publicity stunt but that’s it.

1

u/SonicDethmonkey 1d ago

This isn’t “flying” either. A 5 second burst of compressed air is not what anyone has in mind when they talk about flying cars.

u/quantgorithm 1d ago

The first flight by the Wright bros was 12 seconds and 120'.

That was considered flight and the most important flight for humanity. 120'. That's smaller than a football field. It's 75% of a football field. The first flight. Tell me again how it's not flying!

F'ing haters! Seriously, touch grass.

And? That has been a thing since forever and it's not allowed, you won't be let onto a racetrack let alone a race with trusters on the back. For anyone's safety. Could this maybe beat a Ferrari anything over a single lap? Maybe, but a race? No way, I would be surprised if the battery can keep up with 30+ minutes of racing.

Also since this thing isn't road legal, a fair comparison would be something like a fxx k or maybe even a F1 car.

3

u/quantgorithm 1d ago

Fair comparison? let me know when you get something to compare to a flying car that lands itself!!!

Hilarious! Reddit never change! The collective IQ of a bunch of gnats.

1

u/Johannes_Katze New to the sub 1d ago

Mate what? You where talking about a race on a race track with non street legal cars. That's what I was comparing, after YOU made the comparison.

You said I would beat a Ferrari in a race, I said it wouldn't.

The fact I had to summarise 2 little comments just so you can comprehend them, makes me think you should be very careful about commenting about peoples iq.

Buy then again I was once a stupid teenager how thought Elon was a genius as well, so I know the feeling.

😂😀😂 that’s a good one! Tesla hasn’t entered or won any globally recognized races. At best the S was pretty impressive at some run what you brung drag events but other than that none of Teslas cars can come anywhere close to beating a modern Ferrari on an actual race track. Hell even if they tried to race a pit stop for this stupid car would take 6 hrs just to refill the tanks😂.

-1

u/quantgorithm 1d ago

The writings on the wall.

3

u/Pandemoniusanus New to the sub 1d ago

😂 what writing? This car technically doesn’t even exist. Not to mention even if they did build it there’s no way it would get past rules and regulations to race in a grid with other cars. This thing is a rolling bomb! 😂

-1

u/quantgorithm 1d ago

It technically does exist.

You just saw it exist live yesterday doing things no car in the history of the planet has ever done before. Sorry reality is hard for you!

2

u/steveu33 New to the sub 1d ago

So that was an actual full weight production model that did the kick flip? You know that how?

1

u/quantgorithm 1d ago

That's a strawman. it's a proven proof of concept car shown to viably work. from here to production would imply it will only get better but it certainly exists and you pretending it doesn't only shows you to not be seeing reality with your own eyes showing you that you are wrong.

3

u/TrackMan5891 1d ago

YOu can drive the one with GCT on the back on the road.

1

u/Live-Kiwi3977 1d ago

I get your point 😂 Ferrari and Tesla are going for very different things here. Still, you have admit this thing is wild.

u/Pandemoniusanus New to the sub 1d ago

Whoever crunched the numbers to pull this stunt off put in some work but other than that this is just a stupid gimmick. A more practical use would’ve been to just use fixed pitch propellers to make the car be able to fly ( low altitude) or provide downforce for a short time for emergency situations such as a crossing a flood but gas thrusters and highly pressurized tanks on a car is just dumb.

When we'll see a Roadster vs Ferarri race, you'll move the goalpost to something else.

1

u/Pandemoniusanus New to the sub 1d ago

It’s been over 10 yrs and no Toadster has ever beat a Ferrari in real road race. So the goal post can stay right where it’s at.

2

u/glassy_paddle New to the sub 1d ago

The fan boys aren't going to listen, so no point in arguing with them.

The McMurtry Spéirling is already likely far faster than anything Tesla could make. And faster than any ICE/hybrid car on short course tracks.

But as we know, Ferraris or other street legal hypercars (like a T.50) are about the experience, not random stats people like to post on the internet.

u/HarborKeeper 1d ago

Re: purpose, Ferarri does 0-60 in 2.4s, Roadster in 1.6s (base configurations)

3

u/Pandemoniusanus New to the sub 1d ago

A top fuel dragster can hit 100mph in .8 seconds. Much like the Toadster it cannot touch even the slowest Ferraris lap time on a road course.

1

u/One-Proof-9506 New to the sub 1d ago

I know this may sound totally crazy, but 0-60 is not the only thing that car enthusiasts care about.
