Why can't people just revel in the totally absurd awesomeness of this? It isn't meant to be "real world" It's about imagination, thinking like a kid, and having the financial juggernaut and sheer engineering might to create something so nonsensical. What did we actually "get" out of going to the moon in 1969, from a purely practical standpoint? Billions and billions of dollars spent simply to spark the imagination of mankind...what a fools errand. Not.

I acknowledge all of that. I am just sad knowing that we get no more useful cars. I have owned a model 3 for 6 years. I love it. Love. it. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and it’s not even close. I just wish they had kept going. A decent SUV, a van, a truck. A decade ahead of everyone, with a war chest to make electric mainstream and amazing. What could have been… I would pay through the nose for a truck that looked and drove like a Rivian with Tesla software and know how. It would have been far more epic than this. Is this tech amazing, yes. Still pales in comparison to the future I thought was coming.

At the prices expected

It would have been nice if instead of the Cyberflop we got a Gen 2 Model 3 and Y at least in the pipeline. It’s insane the S and X didn’t even get a second generation and were cancelled. The reason their sales collapsed is because they were ancient AF. If they’d launched a Gen 2 with attractive styling, 10-80% charge in 15 mins, 400 miles minimum range and up to 500 miles for longest range models Tesla would have sold a ton of them.

I feel like this is the unfortunate outcome of having a part-time CEO who is more interested in buying elections and harming the overall EV industry.

u/shawndh1 14h ago

You’re out of touch with Tesla goals. They don’t even want to make cars anymore.

•

u/SirWilson919 6h ago

We did get a refreshed model 3 and Y with small improvements in pretty much every way. The things you mentioned about charging are totally unnecessary and actually make the car worse - fast charging degrades the battery faster, and more range requires more batteries that make the car heavier and less efficient. I’ve road tripped my Tesla 3000 miles in 4 days and charging/range is not an issue. Supercharging adds maybe 10% travel time vs gas car where you’re doing a cannonball run with no stops but fuel. Almost everyone stops for restroom and food on a real road trip and if your doing this at superchargers it adds effectively zero travel time

They can still make new model cars.

•

u/Lokon19 22h ago

Who says they aren’t going to make any new models? I have very little doubt you’ll get at least 1 new model in the next five years.

That's because you thought Tesla was just a car company. They did the electric car thing. They dominated. Now, they are moving on to bigger and more disruptive things.

u/bamboozledqwerty New to the sub 1d ago

Yes. Because high density pressurized gas input and output at scale is SUPER useful in a terrestrial setting. Oh cool there will be a car with thrusters in the mars ghost town. Yay.

0

u/HerValet 1d ago

You really think nothing they have learned making this work will get reused somehow?

1

u/bamboozledqwerty New to the sub 1d ago

Making low atmosphere vehicles possible aka mars tech? Sure. Great. Yippee. More efficient satellite boosters? Cool.

Id be more impressed with him at this point if it didnt take 6 months to get a CT or YL....

And im a big tesla nerd

•

u/HerValet 16h ago

Yeah... one thing's for sure: Elon is not in the business of pleasing everybody.

•

u/cbalzer 9h ago

I never thought they were just a car company, just hoped they would remain also a car company. It seems really clear to me they don’t really want to be. They appear very focused on cyber cab and Tesla bots. The thing is, I want a vehicle to drive. I’m not hating on Elon or Tesla, I’m just lamenting what could have been in terms of vehicles. Ever seen some of the speculative renderings of a Tesla truck with Tesla design characteristics? I thought they looked great. I really find myself wanting an adventure vehicle that can go off road but I don’t want to give up the Tesla owner experience and won’t drive a CT. That’s all.

Because Elon bad lol

u/south-of-the-river New to the sub 1d ago

Well, he kind of freaking is.

You can like Tesla and the products WHILE ALSO acknowledging that there is a lot of very strong reasons why people would not like the man.

•

u/Repulsive-Active-790 New to the sub 23h ago

You measure his worth by how many people dislike him. Yet the world knows his name, while it wouldn't even notice your absence. Being disliked and being irrelevant are two very different things.

•

u/BearFacedLie69 New to the sub 23h ago

lol whatever dude. He’s a pos.

•

u/Repulsive-Active-790 New to the sub 23h ago

Ok, why?

•

u/BearFacedLie69 New to the sub 23h ago

🤦‍♂️ if you’re asking that then you already know, and if you don’t, you need to pull your head out of the sand.

•

u/Repulsive-Active-790 New to the sub 23h ago

Awww, he has no answer for his words. Imagine that. I’m not gonna answer that, man. You should know already. Pull your head out of the sand. A perfect response to someone asking why

•

u/BearFacedLie69 New to the sub 23h ago

I have plenty of answers but you’re not worth my time, neither is this. Elon is a piece of shit and so are you for even asking why. Fuck you. Goodnight.

•

u/Repulsive-Active-790 New to the sub 23h ago

Awww, you realize you’re retarded, right? No one asked you to reply to my comment. You took the time and initiative and effort to respond, and then decided to clam up and be defensive for no reason. Sure thing, buddy.

Because its being subsidized by tax payers..

1

u/saltashstreet New to the sub 1d ago

Absolutely Sublime take.
I’m going to repeat this and pretend I came up with it.

1

Because it’s Tesla/elon

This is what I’m saying. Just enjoy the wonder life brings sometimes

1

u/I8vaaajj New to the sub 1d ago

Yes we need imagination at this time. Fk if I pay 3x in groceries, Red Mars is coming to life! And we can figure out how to fill liquid cool nitrogen and compressed gas or whatever rockets later!

1

u/Unknowingly-Joined New to the sub 1d ago

Wait, Red Mars is coming to life?

1

u/jdmills55 New to the sub 1d ago

People love to hate things and talk bad about it. Just a bunch of cynical people. Won't allow themselves a moment to just witness something amazing. Regardless of how they rollout its still a flying car.

•

u/AcademicNorth7456 New to the sub 20h ago

You know what would’ve been wonderful? If the millions of dollars spent on this useless stunt went to people who actually need it instead. This will not be something you can even buy, it’s just for show

-1

u/Express_Rent4630 New to the sub 1d ago

Because it's completely pointless hype so Elon can take deposits on something people will never get. It's a Ponzi scheme. That car is never going into production, people are putting deposits down just like the 1st roadster so Elon can show it on the company books as money that's come in. Other car companies could probably do something similar with a car, but they haven't. Do you know why? Because there's no point in wasting millions of dollars on something that will never be. He's trying to pump the shares, thats all. He doesn't care about Tesla, only about fudging the books. If you have shares in Tesla do you really think this is going to be the car that brings the company huge profits? Not a chance. Should have made a sensible car that people would actually buy. But instead we got an empty prototype with no room for anything inside that can do a Buzz Lightyear. What would people say if this was Ferrari announcing this? They'd say the company has gone mad. But because it's the wannabe fuhrer the nutters think it's the best thing ever. I'll give them their dues it's a fantastic piece of engineering. But it's utterly pointless to the people who actually matter, investors

2

u/Jaded66671 New to the sub 1d ago

You think he’s gained more money in investors due to this than it cost to produce? And this is more money than he gained in all the orders he got because fuel is sky high?

7

u/bulgert100 New to the sub 1d ago

So we think Elon needs to engage in Ponzi schemes? The hate for Elon is obfuscating otherwise halfway intelligent individuals to lose their minds.

2

u/West-Air1923 1d ago

They're midwits unable to resist the relentless propaganda they're fed

1

u/Low_Shape8280 New to the sub 1d ago

Wait how many people gave him 50k for a non existent product then he just used that money to build business

1

u/Express_Rent4630 New to the sub 1d ago

Yeah. To make the Tesla books look better. You do realise his money is locked up in shares and he isn't actually cash rich

0

u/danceswithshibe New to the sub 1d ago

The entirety of his wealth is based on how the public views his companies share price. Nothing to do with how much the companies actually make. As long as the stock price increases because people thinks this looks cool his wealth will grow.

3

u/willycw08 New to the sub 1d ago

Yep and even something completely useless like this, could have people believing that if he can make flying cars well then why can't he make humanoid robots?

The belief is what he needs to keep the share price high so there's capital to actually build the robots, etc that he's trying to build. Doesn't mean it will work, but there's a certain logic to it.

1

u/pamemake 1d ago

NOT completely useless. You can defeat a police barricade this way.

1

u/willycw08 New to the sub 1d ago

Scottie Scheffler going to be flying his car to all the golf tournaments from now on?

•

u/bulgert100 New to the sub 12h ago

Which is great. We want his wealth to grow. He is a visionary and his companies are changing the world. All the insufferable little whiners don't like it because they can't stand his politics. Fine. Don't like his politics, but it's only you looking like a fool when you try to discredit the products and technologies his companies are responsible for. We see right through that.

•

u/danceswithshibe New to the sub 12h ago

Just making sure you agree it’s a Ponzi scheme. Glad you understand now.

"But! But! Elon bad!!"

0

u/buttsfartly New to the sub 1d ago

No.... It's Elon creating another carrot for investors. He is full of wild claims an publicly stunts because it's easier to pull in other people's money on a promise of the thing than actual delivery of the thing.

2

u/klausgfx 1d ago

Stfu

•

u/buttsfartly New to the sub 5h ago

I'm not wrong, did you buy SpaceX shares? Down 10% that must hurt to defend.

•

u/lolo780 New to the sub 23h ago

Mostly people who can't afford it have a lot to say.

•

u/hoosierlifter88 New to the sub 21h ago

Imagine thinking the US didn’t get anything out of the space program… lol

-1

u/JP708 New to the sub 1d ago

If their CEO didn’t buy votes for the president I’d possibly be a bit more excited about his useless non-consumer tech.

-1

u/Resident_Goodish New to the sub 1d ago

You do understand this is a 1 of 1 prototype gutted in every way to do this one stunt? Or are we just at this new level of naivety?

-2

u/AutoCockerPB New to the sub 1d ago

Bc if you understand engineering, this is technology from the 60s. The moon landing is 100x more impressive than this. Launching a rocket is 10x more impressive than this. Mythbusters has done more interesting stuff than this.

2

u/West-Air1923 1d ago

If Elon went to mars Tomorrow you miserable people will be "nothing new we did that in the 60s this is just a longer version"

1

u/Middle-Coat4377 New to the sub 1d ago

Why does anyone want to go to mars??

•

u/outofbeer New to the sub 22h ago

This really just isn't that impressive. He slapped thrusters on a car chassis and did some basic physics. Of all the cool innovations developed by Tesla, this is meh.

-3

u/identitytaken New to the sub 1d ago

Fuck Elon
