Anyone consider retrofitting Juniper rear passenger door glass into legacy Model Y?

Hey everyone,

I noticed that the updated Model Y (Juniper) comes with asymmetric laminated rear door glass (part numbers 1833124-00-B and 1833125-00-B), while the legacy Model Y has naked tempered glass in the same locations.

From what I can tell, the glass dimensions and mounting points appear identical between the two generations. Has anyone tried retrofitting the Juniper’s laminated acoustic glass into an older Model Y?

Seems like a relatively simple upgrade for highway noise and a quieter cabin, since Tesla sells the laminated glass for $260 per side.

Haven’t tried it but thought about it.

I just placed an order for rear acoustic glass, plus the juniper suspension struts and springs. Some of the parts are on backorder, but I decided to do this instead of buying a new EV right now. Feel free to ping me in a month or 2, I can report back about the difference. My main motivation on the rear glass is that it's thicker and my hope is that it will sit against the seals tighter. I did notice that the rear seats seem like they get more outside noise and wind noise, so I'm curious if this helps. In the spring, I will upgrade to the Michelin e.primacy tires too, which are supposed to be great for the model Y. I have a 2024 LR btw.

I know it hasn’t been 2 months but wonder if you’ve picked up the glass. Also if you’d be willing to share the part numbers you used for the glass if at all different than OP! Thanks!

FWIW I am in kind of a similar spot continuing to piecewise upgrade to feel less bad about not wholesale upgrading. I did Juniper suspension retrofit and pleased (less harshness, less bounce). I also swapped to 18” wheels which similarly improved the ride and chunky tires made me immune to curb rash.

One thing to consider RE: suspension but also on back order. I like staying OEM Tesla for less risk of being hassled for warranty stuff but also had a chance to see what a Model Y with Ohlins felt like and am now kind of wishing I had gone that route. Feels like all the comfort of Juniper with way better stability. So if you bought acceleration boost or like to enjoy curved roads enthusiastically it’s worth considering whether to spring for ;) At the same time everything is on back order indefinitely over here blah

Report back in a month please! Have you heard of hankook ion evo as. I think it was recommended before for tires for ev. Look into those if you have never heard of them.

I did have those hankooks on my model 3 that I got rid of. Didn’t really like them. I find the stock pirellis much better.

Awesome,  I didn't get any notifications and I dont you reporting back with an update. Other than the fitment,  did you actually notice any difference at all?

Everything fits perfectly. I noticed a difference in everything. No more constant jitter in the suspension. And it forms up nicely in the corners. The car is whiter and the doors seal better. However I did notice that there is still a lot of noise from the glass roof. I put up a double layer shade and the car is so quiet. Might have to investigate putting in some sound absorbing film.

Interesting,  I didn't think it was worh it. Now I might have to reconsider,  I thing I highly recommend you is to install a fabric fender liner in the front, the car already has it in the rear, they are dirt cheap and it really made a big difference.

Link to fabric fender liner for the front?

Link for sun shade? I’ve also considered putting some sound absorbing insulation between my current shade and the glass roof.

I did it myself. You only remove two screws and pop off the door panel, then you will see the two bolts that hold the windows. Undo those bolts and the window lifts right out. Don't tighten down the new windows all the way until you are satisfied with the alignment. They give you some play to move the windows backwards and forwards based on how they hit the body when closed, so be sure the gently adjust it and then tighten it down. Takes less then 15 minutes per door. The glass you just order directly from tesla's parts website. I think both sides added up to $600. I don't remember now and they keep rising the price of parts.

To add if tesla lets you order glass from them you can have your autoglass replacement service do it. Considering they probably won’t do it for you
