rewatching the 100 for the third time
I started watching The 100 again these past few days after a really long time, and I have this big question.
How could the Ark’s board of directors—including Chancellor Kane—agree to send 100 CHILDREN (including a 14-15yo on board, talking about charlotte) to a planet that might be full of radiation, without knowing whether they would survive or not? I understand that the Ark was dying and they needed alternatives, but how could they have agreed to send 100 delinquent children instead of fully grown adults?

They had no adult criminals as they were all dead. Every trial for a recently turned 18 year old ended up with them being floated to further reduve the population. They vouldnt ask for volunteers because they wanted to keep their secret as long as possible. Most of the kids were from lesser stations or already orphaned. Only a hand full of people even noticed they were gone.

It's YA stuff. Hot teens/20something get to do that things that matter. Happened in harry potter, Twilight, hungher games and it's many rip-off

I mean if you watched the show you would have the answers 1. Every single one of thoes kids would have been killed when they turned 18 2. Sending the kids have them air 3. They sent the kids because it was easier to hide the reasoning

This might be a spoiler but:
In the later seasons abby had a conversation with someone where she said that she sent the kids to the ground so that her daughter could have a chance at life or something along those lines. So i believe that abby lobbied the whole idea of the kids being the ones to be sent down to save clarke. Also that does make the most sense in the way that they would’ve been probably the first ones to be killed when population needed to be reduced. They were expendable if that makes sense as bad as it sounds. If they were going to most likely be dead soon anyway it was smarter to send them to the ground instead of sacrificing ones that weren’t deemed so expendable.

You have to use your own head canon and the book. I say that because the shows idea came through before the book finished.
In the book though, because the ark is dying, no one had been passing their reviews at 18, and were being floated for crimes that usually you got a second chance on. No one knew why they got tougher on crime.
BUT I think the same thing every time because of how the show lays it out. Abby is sure the ground is survivable before they get there. Is she just hoping? All the science told them they need 100 years.
I think at this point they’re are experimenting trying all solutions, but if that’s the case, why only a 100? I would have stuff that drop ship with as many people as I could IF I didn’t think they would survive and it would get the rest of us air.

Lol, what? No. The books and the movie (EDIT: TV show, not movie) were being written at the same time, they're both separate stories. They just so happend to have the same premise and some of the same characters. Don't use the book to explain anything in the show.

They were criminals who would have otherwise been floated at 18 most likely.
They needed to protect essential personnel on the arc.
Someone had to go...
