My thoughts on the series Spoiler
This will include spoilers so beware!!
I just finished the series for the first time in adult age. Last time i watched was when the last season was aired. I’m writing this with tears in my eyes from just finishing the last episode. Just wanted to write my thoughts down and share my views of the show as an empath and see if others agree or see things differently as i do. Please use this as an open conversation on all of the serie and characters, feel free to share your opinions.
First of all, what a beautiful show. The first 4 seasons are absolute peak, 10/10, no notes. The fifth season was okay but not nearly as good as the first four. The last two felt like a bit of a belly flop, but i’ll let it slide since in the end the story and meaning came together so beautifully. I do however feel like especially the last season was almost like some sort of religious propaganda and i’m not a fan of the supernatural or paranormal storyline.
I feel very conflicted of most of the characters, Clarke above all. I loved her the first 4 seasons even tho she did some stupid mistakes and decisions, but after madi came around the character just fell off in a way. I understand that the love for her child is above anything and everything else, but it felt a bit weird how adamantly she chose her child above the things she previously fought for. I’m not a mother myself so i guess i wouldn’t understand the love and bond, but it kind of made everything that happened before feel irrelevant to her.
Bellamy and i have a full on love-hate relationship. I feel like as a viewer i can see the confliction he goes through with everything he does. He’s brave and willing when needed but whenever someone else is there to take the lead, he doesn’t really question it ot fight it. Like with Pike, he was so gullible. That’s what led him in the worst decisions he made. When he was good, he was really good. He again just needed someone to show him the way.
With those two, my favorite thing was that they were never a couple and they weren’t in any way romantically connected at any point. It felt like the obvious way to go with the chatacters and i’m so happy they chose to keep them as friends bc at the end of the day their friendship was beautiful.
Octavia is my absolutely favorite character. She was brilliantly written (probably one of the best written characters ever) and Marie did an incredible job with the acting. With her, everything just makes sense. You can literally see and feel the character build throughout the seasons. From the girl under the floor, to learning trikru lifestyle, to lincolns death, to blodreina, to the death of her ego and hope to her redemption. Absolutely brilliant. The only reason i forgive the show writers for killing Lincoln is that it was so necessary for octavias character arc.
Kane alongside octavia and murphy had one of the best character builds of the series. His was faster than the others, but what an interesting character he made. It was the obvious way to go with kane and abby’s relationship but that actually did make sense and was better for the characters. Kane was so curious and so unwavering in his morale, at least after the character got better. He was like the morale guide for all of them and very necessary. I hated that his death felt so insignificant after everything. Abby’s death was shit as well but i didn’t really like her anyway lol.
I could go on, but i’ll save all of our time and list my likes and hates of the rest of the main characters.
Like: lexa, indra, raven, gaia, monty, Diyoza, echo, emori
Neutral: madi, harper, jasper, jordan, murphy, jackson
Hate: Jaha, Hope, pike, miller
I’m a big big fan of Clexa, which was the reason i started wathing the show at first. I hate that we had so little time to know lexa in the end and the whole relationship felt like it was cut short concidering the meaning it had for clarke all the way till the end. I bawled my eyes out on every detail that referenced lexa and i love that they kept her in spirit as part of the show, but again, her meaning didn’t equal her screen time in my opinion.
I love all the small details in other occasions too. The phrases that were there always like ”my sister, my responsibility” and ”in peace may you leave the shore…” yadayada you know what i’m talking about. It gave the whole show more emotional meaning.
Altogether the show is incredible even with the last few seasons included. I love how it shows exactly what humanity is with all the love and the brutality. As an empath it’s a great ride and a wide scale of emotions to feel through the characters. Some part of me wishes there was more to this story, because honestly i would watch a season of them living happily on earth but i doubt that would ever happen.
Here are a few things i wanted to ask the community:
How do all of you feel about the ”big” deaths and the ways they played out?
What do you think of hope and madi? Or about the last couple seasons?
Which are your favorite characters and why?
Thanks for reading, i hope to see some good discussion in the comments🫶

favorite character is murphy so i did like the last seasons because him and emori had big parts, and one of my favorite scenes in the show is them sharing a mind at the end. also i choose to believe clarke shooting bellamy wasn't actually fatal and he winds up on the beach too.

I loved getting to know emori more as well. I feel like we didn’t see the kind and friendly side of her that much before, except with murphy, but we got to see her friendships forming too which was nice. And i loved that scene too, made me cry. Tbh i don’t know if bellamy would choose to join them at the beach after what he did and what clarke did to him. But i hoped we would’ve seen a better goodbye for him. His whole death scene was just so below his character and his importance it was disappointing.

I like your take.
Octavia is a beautifully written character. The writers felt more consistent with her than anyone else.
Murphy i love. Bellamy i love.
Kanes journey from the pilot to his end is wonderful. His death made him even a better man.
Abby’s death was sad cause I saw it from Clark’s perspective.
I too am an adult but got into this show after it aired. I find it interesting all your characters you hate I think they are some of the most conflicting.
I also think I’m in the very small minority that loves the last season as much as the first.

Murphy has his moments but his character wavers. I think he has a good heart, but his head makes him selfish at times. I love it that we got emori to softwn him and help him understand the importance of friends. He’s a well written character, i’ve hated him and loved him but in the end i’m just not convinced. I might be overly wary with that, but idk. Kans is indeed great, but his death was just bad writing. I understand how and why it happened, but no one ever really mourned him which is the worst part for me. He did a great sacrifice and everyone was just okay. Writing like that wouldn’t have made it to the show on earlier seasons and that’s one reason why the last seasons feel like they’re lacking something. Abby’s death was bad in the opposite way, her death was just a few seconds that i couldn’t really even process in the moment but at least we saw a bit of the mourning and aftermath.
How do you feel about Jaha or Pike?Last season could’ve been good, the main story was okay and i don’t mind that although it’s a bit out of the usual storylines of the show. The biggest issue for me was that it felt a bit superficial. A lot happened, but i didn’t really get a grasp of anything. A lot of new characters, new planets, storylines etc it was just too much to fit on one season. If they had spread it on 2 separate seasons with 13ep each, it could’ve been far better imo.

I feel like for the last two seasons, but especially the last season, the showrunner and creator Jason Rothenberg was a bit too focused on trying to develop the prequel and writing things in a way that he could make that prequel that things suffered a bit. It's like he was a bit too focused on what the future (or past ig) could be that he sort neglected or dropped the ball with the present and it showed. There are a new things that were introduced in last 2 seasons that you usually don't see most creators do for obvious reasons. Instead of wrapping up the lore, he expanded it. And it was almost all for nothing because that prequel never happened, leaving us with a quite a few things that will always remain unanswered.
Still a great show. I'm literally rewatching it right now. Just finished S6. This is my second time watching it. The first time I watched it was when it was actually aired.
The worst part about the show's ending was what happened with the actors and people involved with the show. If I remember correctly, they finished filming the show literally the day (or maybe even the night) before the world went into lockdown. Forget about a wrap party, they literally never got to say goodbye to the people they spent 7+ years working with. It was all very sudden. They literally went from pretending to live in a post-apocalyptic world for 7 years to actually living in one.

I loved all of it. No issues with the last two seasons either, and I could easily live with the transcendence at the end.
- I hate Pike for killing Lincoln.
- I felt 'good' when Octavia killed Pike in the end which made me be surprised about myself.
- Hope is 'OK' as a character; I feel less 'invested' in her character than in, for example, Madi's character.- Loved the Clexa couple; loved the interactions between Clarke and Madi when she found a way through the flame to interact with Lexa through Madi.
- My favorite is either Clarke or Raven, I know Clarke is 'tainted' and she made bad decisions, mainly killing Bellamy in the end, but she's human to me. With all her faults, she's, in her heart, not a bad person who deals with the responsibility put on her shoulders the best she can; she fails every now and then, but always _ tries _ to remain reasonable. Octavia doesn't get the same 'praise' because she turned into Bloodreine, although she did redeem herself when she came back.
- Clarke deserved transcendence too IMHO, this way her friends would not have needed to come back, and she could have been with Madi too.
- Love Indra, love the friendship between Kane and Indra.
- Love the arc of Murphy and Emori.
- Favorite line... "Do you see her too?" when Clarke asked Madi the first time, when she got the flame.
- Favorite Hoodie, "City of Light Community College, where everyone is accepted."

I thought the big deaths were pretty well done expect for Bellamy. It made no sense to me since he was one of the original 100 and ruined the consistency of the show.
I hated Hope, I found her super annoying and really added nothing to the show. I liked Madi a lot and glad she tried to disconnect herself from Clarke as much Clarke treated her like a pet. It’s funny too that Madi never referred to her as “mom” but Clarke was obsessed with calling her “her daughter”. She wasn’t her mom, she was a friend or maybe a mentor. That annoyed me so much.
My favorite characters were Monty and Bellamy. Monty always tried to support his friends no matter what and realized everything they had been doing was wrong, and realized they needed to be better. I liked Bellamy because we saw a lot of character growth from a rebel, to a someone who was bound to duty of his sister, to the fallen hero, and eventually to someone like Monty, who realized everything they had been doing was for nothing because it was all senseless violence.

I really have to disagree on your interpretation of Clarke and Madi's relationship. Clarke found Madi when she was 6 years old, having lived on her own for 2 months in a village of her family's burned corpses, literally a wild child. She raised her for the next 6 years, teaching her English and raising her on stories of Spacekru, braiding her hair and taking care of her. Madi valued Clarke as much as Clarke valued Madi, which is why she made that final sacrifice in S7. Clarke is always the first and only person Madi runs to.
Saying she treated her as a pet is also really uncharitable. Madi was a child, her child, and it's natural that Clarke would be super protective over her. If you really want an example of people taking away the agency of the person they raised, look at Bellamy and Octavia in S1. Bellamy refused to let her go anywhere, even when it might have saved their lives (going to see Lincoln after the virus) and strung up people just for being interested in her. Clarke was the person to give her agency as a 17-year-old girl. Madi was even younger when she took the Flame than Charlotte was, for comparison's sake. Charlotte misunderstood advice and killed an innocent man because she thought it would make herself feel better at 13. Madi is even younger than that and being forced to face decisions that Clarke herself knows are traumatising.
I'm not surprised Madi never referred to her as 'mom' given that she watched her first family die, but it's very clear that Madi sees her as her only family. She never refutes Clarke calling her her daughter. It's definitely more than a friendship or a mentorship. If Spacekru can call each other family no problem, then Madi and Clarke who only had each other for 6 years are 100% a family.
I truly believe yall just like to minimise their relationship so it's easier to condemn Clarke for her actions in S5. But she made the same choice Spacekru did, chose her family like they chose theirs. Saying otherwise gives major double standards

I really did love S6, since it brought the Eligius lore back to life. But totally agree post S4, is when things really start to go down. S5 was mediocre, it wasn't terrible, also brought lore but it introduced so many new characters that were kind of left in the wayside. Same with S7, which is my least favorite. Too many storylines, too many new character, it took too much away from the original premise, and had to wrap it up in one season... plus they promised no aliens and we still got aliens.
