I honestly felt a wave of despair when I saw this. It would have helped me!

He had a whole series of books for kids about difficult topics. They were revolutionary.

I once saw the Mister Rogers Neighborhood book "Going to the Potty" at a local Savers. The only non-spinoff (Daniel Tiger, Donkey Hodie)-related Mister Rogers thing I've seen there!

As kind and wonderful as that man is, as much as he cared about the well-being of children. I feel like if he was alive modern day and found out about the Epstein files, he would become a Punisher type vigilante bludgeoning politicians to death with the neighborhood trolley.
Although I imagine he would probably get a baseball bat and name it neighborhood trolley. That's my fantasy at least!

He knew about abuse of children in great depth directly from mail that was sent to him. Kids who had survived looking at his show, being severely mistreated by parents and family overall. What he did was serve such people. He was very angry with these situations but used love as motivation to help people.

Yeah - and sometimes he talked about it on the show… one old episode, after RFK’s murder, a puppet asked a lady “what’s an assassination?” Because he knew children heard their parents talking about it, and saw distraught adults, but didn’t understand what it was…
I appreciate that he took kids seriously enough to talk about these things - because kids aren’t stupid, and they get scared

It's almost incomprehensible. I guess we really are not allowed to have good people for a long time.

A retailer was selling T-shirts with Mr. Rogers’ logo; with a gun. Mr. Rogers sued them immediately—he would not let anyone appear that he supported firearms.

I would commit myself in service to help him. Who’s in. I’ll bring the physics.

I mean one of the great Mr Rogers urban legends is that he wears sweaters to hide some badass tattoos.

Completely false. As are all the others. (The “whoops we didn’t know this was YOUR car” one is at least believable.)

I wish that he could have cloned himself so we could have him around longer. RIP Mr Rodgers.

I remember reading this! My parents divorced at 2. I think I got it at the library.

So what should we do for children who get stuck in these situations when their parents get divorced? Just ignore it?

All the books he put out covering different topics for kids are really great. I love the one for potty training and for when a kid gets a new baby sibling
