This is how I feel about Edward Scissorhands. Yeah sure, art is about meaning and poetry and junk and we don't need to get hung up on superficial elements but there is a limit to that shit, eventually your concept is too silly to support the weight of the story you attach to it. I don't know exactly where the limit is, but it has to be somewhere. What if he'd been Edward Cattleprodarms and instead of an ice sculpture, he used the electricity to make a beautiful display for her in the sky? Still work?

Cattle prods aren’t ubiquitous enough. Scissors are kind of perceived as a timeless tool which I think makes the concept slightly more palatable.
