So Stewart’s sampled snare is not on the finished version, even though he pushes that story… But I suppose it would not have worked as well with Sting’s deeper tone vocal.
I love hearing Andy's fingerpicked guitars in particular. But I gain a new appreciation for each member's sheer instrumental prowess when listening to one of these deconstructed videos.
So, I’ve been a longtime fan of The Police. I remember the first time I listened to “Wrapped Around Your Finger” was on a road trip with my dad. The way I interpreted it was that it was about an extramarital affair, with Sting singing from the perspective of the person who wasn’t married. I always thought it was about the power dynamics in an affair and how the married person eventually ends up at the mercy of the other person.
Does anyone else get this interpretation from the song? I know the background context about it actually being about the dynamics within the band, but I’ve always been curious if anyone else heard it the same way I did lol.
I wanted to share a unique piece of memorabilia I recently managed to secure. As a massive fan of Sting (he has been my favourite singer for as long as I can remember), I have spent years wanting a figurine of him.
On January 19, 2025, I finally tracked down this 1984 LJN produced action figure of Sting as Feyd-Rautha from David Lynch’s Dune movie on ebay. Because it’s so rare and nobody else had it listed at the time, I bit the bullet and paid a total of C$86.02 for him. I know I probably overpaid a little bit, but when it comes to your favourite artist, sometimes you just have to do it!
For a piece of plastic that is over 40 years old, I’m amazed by the condition. His signature blonde hair from that era has barely any paint wear, and the face mold genuinely captures his look perfectly. It's missing the odd "cat-in-a-cage" accessory it originally came with, but it still has his dagger!
I absolutely love having a physical piece of his iconic 1984 movie crossover on my shelf. Do any of you own this figure, or have any other strange/rare Sting memorabilia in your collections?
I've tried using AI to find this book. I came across it in Powell's growing up. It was the same trip when I first found Andy Summer's "Throb" photo essay book.
I don't recall if it was published by Sting, or the photographer who arranged the meeting between Sting and this remarkable identical twin model.
If I remember correctly, the model looked like Sting with longer hair and a slightly more muscular build. The book was all art photography, tasteful and both color and black and white shots.
Interspersed was the story of the model and the craziness he went through in his town, and also reflections by Sting on what it feels like to be working with someone who is so similar. I remember a specific section where he said he felt like this model looked more like Sting than he did.
I can't find the book again. I'm pretty sure it was an import. Very much an art book more than a trade book. Maybe it was a book sold at a gallery that showed the art?
AI says it can't find any trace of it. Has anyone else seen this book or remember it?
One spin of Regatta De Blanc was all it took to turn me into a lifelong fan. Message in a bottle was on the radio 5,000 times a day. It was a glorious time to be a teenager.
I started listening to the police since my mom, who was an 80s teen, loved them and played them very often. But now that I am a 24 year old gen z , I often listen to them and get sad that we won’t ever get a concert, a reunion tour, etc. I’ll never be able to see them perform all my favorites on stage. :/ a least we have some live performances and the music of course but I wish I could see them live
I thought the song was about a person in a relationship who is seeing that the other person is preparing to leave then. Without letting the other person know, they are taking mental notes of all the little things they see that signify the end of the relationship, even though it’s not been clearly stated yet. This idea goes against those who say it’s basically a creepy song about a stalker.
But then I read that Sting himself has said it’s about a stalker.
