I’ve never seen that kind of footwork before. Slides out from under the falling body like he isn’t even subject to gravity. Light on his feet doesn’t begin to capture it.
MMA rings have springs and shock absorbers underneath, so it looks like a solid floor, but it has some bounce to it. Kind of similar to standing on a mini-trampoline, but not quite THAT springy. This is meant to alleviate risks of concussion, head trauma and CTE, along with other injuries overall. People die from fighting on concrete.
I did this in high school to some kid bigger than me. Twice! First hit stunned him. And me. He was bigger. Came at me again and put him down with second one placed square in same spot. Busted his nose open with that one. Later in principles office dude admitted he thought I was someone else 🤦🏽♂️
I’ve heard boxers say it would be safe to fight without gloves. The glove protect the hand a lot more than the face, allowing the boxer to hit harder. If fighting without gloves, the fighter will not punch as hard, so as not to injure themselves and be able to fight longer. The tape/hand wrap you see doesn’t add much in the way of padding. It adds stability to the hand, which reduces damage done to the hand.
Imagine you buy tickets to a fight and look forward to it for weeks. You take time off work, book a babysitter, maybe travel an hour or more by car or public transport, and sit down among the spectators, full of anticipation—only for it to be over in a second.
