events UPDATE: Tbay . events now has a weekly/monthly newsletter (FREE)
Hi, this is just an update on the Tbay.events project i had posted about earlier.
- Added alot of new sources include campus and club calendars, hockey schedules, City council meetings, and more local venue and business calendars.
- Better display of events (Less repetitive events or same venue taking up too much space all the time, nicher and one off events get more visibility)
- Newsletter signups are now open and free.
- You can now sponsor your favourite events to boost their visibility

The sponsor-to-boost part is the one I'd think hardest about. People are thanking you here because it's cleaner than scrolling Instagram, and part of that is trusting that what's listed is there on merit. You also just made nicher one-off events more visible, so a paid boost could push those right back down.
I'd keep sponsored events in their own labelled slot in the newsletter and leave the main listings alone.

- sponsored posts don't currently show up on the newsletter, its only on the website's that they're shown higher up (and higher up only within the same day the events are at, no special spot, upto a maximum of 4)
i kinda just made the sponsor thing up in the hopes it might cover the hosting cost atleast. i wasn't hoping on making any money off the site.

That's milder than I read it. Same-day only with a cap of four won't bury the one-off events much. A small "Sponsored" tag on those slots would keep the trust part intact, and covering hosting is a fair reason to have the option.

Yep, they have a sponsored tag attatched with the event card :D .
I see where the concern is coming from tho, very much valid. I do see alot of other mini projects popping up that are purely cash grabs after my last post reached alot of people.

The tag settles it, then. The same-day limit and the cap of four are what separate this from the cash-grab projects, since the free listings stay the main thing. A line on the site saying sponsorships go toward hosting would make that obvious to people who never read this thread.

This is lovely I like the layout :) can I make a suggestion? When submitting an event it doesn't give me the option to put an end time, would be great to have that added

Thanks so much for doing this! It’s way better than skimming instagram and everywhere else for events.
