You just know that they’ll make a big deal about the fact that this (GOP appointed under Bush) Federal judge of a Federal District Court happens to be in Minnesota. Like he’s unable to comprehend how the law works and must be helping protect Tim Walz and company.
It is the jurisdiction the DOJ had to start this ridiculous trumped up case in. (Pun intended.)
And they will try to appeal it up, of course, but I bet the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals says the same thing. And SCOTUS, if they can get that far.
I’m most amused that the judge will (very unusually) make the whole case in front of a Grand Jury public (order currently stayed pending appeals) because these sorry excuses for lawyers toadying for DJT in the DOJ really need to be publicly humiliated.
And disbarred, I hope.

Structurally, politically appointed prosecutors should not be conducting political prosecutions.
I sometimes think that an independent public prosecution office, similar to what the UK has, might be a good idea.

Your first paragraph is basically saying what the judge and much of the electorate is saying — DJT is using the DOJ illegally to pursue political agendas, and the sycophant lawyers he got in there to do so for him should be disbarred and/or prosecuted for doing so.
The US Attorney General and the DOJ is supposed to be an independent prosecution office. Our current idiot POTUS has surrounded himself with people trying to reinterpret that part of the Judiciary Act and US code covering the duties and responsibilities.

Another defeat for the MAGA régime in Washington.
