Moderator Post We will not be removing all sexual questions.
We've had a few complaint threads, so it seems to be about that time for one of these reminders. Let me be clear: We are not going to ban all sex related questions.
They are firmly within "TooAfraidtoAsk", and always have been. Sex is a fairly taboo topic in a lot of places, and a lot of people have questions about it. (And as an additional reminder, TATA is not only for controversial questions. Nor do we allow question shaming for "googleable" questions). These are not new changes.
We get that not everyone has the same interest in those topics, but it is a core part of the sub. Currently, there are ~5 out of the top 10 posts being sex related. Earlier today, it was 4. Earlier this week, it was 3. It typically fluctuates between ~3-5, usually averaging closer to 3.
If you have particular suggestions (e.g. things that seem ripe for the FAQ), or questions feel free to post them below. No promises, but we're always open for improvements if they're feasible. For a list of common questions we get on this topic (what do we already moderate, has the sub changed?, can i filter posts myself?) see the first stickied comment.

Politics Politics Megathread
You know the deal, same as the previous megathreads, which were archived.
The rules:
All top level OP must be questions. This is not a soapbox. If you want to rant or vent, please do it elsewhere. Otherwise, the usual sidebar rules apply (in particular: Rule 1:Be Kind and Rule 3:Be Genuine).
The default sorting is by new to make sure new questions get visibility, but you can change the sorting to top if you want to see the most common/popular questions.

Family How do I get my brother to stop touching himself in front of me?
So me and my older brother have been sharing a room since we were really little because we are a low income family. We have been trying to move since as long as I can remember. Recently I've been noticing my brother just casually masterbaiting in front of me. Anytime I see it I just want to rip the skin off of my face. It makes me so uncomfortable. I've tried asking him to stop, but anytime I bring it up he always denies that he does it. He also used to sexually abuse me, but it stopped by the time I was 9 or 10. I just don't understand why he does this. One night a few weeks ago I woke up at around 12 and I heard moaning from his phone and I also heard him. I also tried to confront him about this too and he once again denied it. I'm just at a loss on what to do.

Culture & Society Why is taking the trash out considered traditionally male?
I’m an immigrant to North America and one thing that stumps me is why taking trash out has been traditionally seen as masculine. It’s not very heavy or dangerous - please pardon the anti-feminist talk - and if you need to take the main can to the curb, you just wheel it, so I’m not sure where this tradition came from.

Culture & Society Genuinely wondering what you guys think of the phrase 'I respect them, but I don't support it.' ?
I mostly see this phrase used constantly in discussions about the LGBTQ+ community, typically by religious individuals. While some argue it’s a harmless personal boundary, others argue it is inherently homophobic. I want to know what this phrase genuinely signals and impacts when directed at a minority group?
And also Why is this phrase treated as an open-and-shut case of bigotry when applied to other minorities like racial minorities, but viewed as a debatable, acceptable "opinion" when applied to the LGBTQ+ community? If someone said "I respect Black people, but I don't support their community" society would universally close the case and label them a racist. Yet, when the exact same sentence structure is used against LGBTQ+ individuals, it is suddenly treated as an understandable stance that needs to be tolerated and respected (Or maybe I am wrong, and some people actually do believe that a statement like 'I respect Black people, but I don't support their community' is acceptable. If so, please correct me.)
and lastly does "respect without support" actually exist? Half of the people who say this doesn't even low-key respect gay people.

Family Is it the parent’s fault if their children don’t develop close sibling bonds with each other?
I am a family of 5 siblings and not a single one of us are cloth with each other despite sharing quite a few similar interests, similar sense of humour, being raised by the same parents etc. Some of us don’t even talk. Yet, our upbringing was positive for the most part and our parents are nice people. However, both parents also happen to be very narcissistic in many ways and I can see looking back, how they may have inadvertently and unintentionally prevented close sibling bonds from forming.

Other How do I become an actual adult?
I’m 20 now. My mom never taught me anything and I never bothered to learn how to do anything myself. I can’t cook, I can barely clean, I don’t know what documents I have and which documents I should have or what needs to be done with them. I could never live on my own. I don’t know how to get a job or how to not be afraid of getting one. I feel a pit in my stomach any time I have to talk to strangers.
I don’t want to be a manchild but I don’t know how to not be one. How do I fix myself?

Mental Health I have an IQ of 75. Why is it often said that IQ tests are often faulty or inaccurate for neurodivergent individuals?
My intellect was measured as my psychologist concurrently was testing me for autism and ADHD, and it came out as being 75, on the borderline spectrum. I was taking ritalin when I took the test (in Costa Rica you can be prescribed said medication without an ADHD diagnosis). The test ended up showing that I have autism and ADHD. What concerns me is that I lack proficiency in other domains of intelligence (in accordance to Gardner‘s theory) wherein I display a below average-average level in some domains, such as interpersonal intelligence, and borderline level on others, such as linguistic or logical-mathematical.
It also concerns me that I didn‘t have a spiky profile. I want to know the subjacent truth of this. I‘ll answer any questions.

Culture & Society Were flat butts actually considered attractive in the 90s and early 2000s?
I've always found women with big butts more attractive than those with flat butts, and these days pretty much all women aspire to have a fat ass. But it seems like that wasn't always the case. For example, whenever I watch media from the early 2000s, I see women saying things like "do these pants make my butt look big" as if that's a bad thing. I was only a kid back then so I wasn't aware of the beauty standards regarding butt size. For women who were teenagers or young adults in the early 2000s, did most of you actually want a flat ass back then, and if so, why?

Ethics & Morality What is it called when someone isn't pro-life but they aren't pro-choice either?
I once saw a poll where the scenario was your 16-year-old daughter wound up pregnant. The poll options were, let her make the decision to keep the baby or not, force her to keep the baby and raise it or force her to put it up for adoption if she kept it. This is a mostly left-leaning audience so most chose to let her make that decision herself with a few pro-lifers sprinkled in.
However there was another option, which was "force her to get an abortion" and some people (albeit very small) actually picked this option so now I've been kind of morbidly laughing about the concept of not being pro-life but also not believing it to be the woman's choice. Pro-death? 😂

Law & Government Hypothetically, if during war you had the enemy hiding in Viet Cong style tunnels, would hosing in engine exhaust count as illegal chemical warfare / war crime?

Other Is calling someone “dear” considered flirting?
I'm curious what you guys think.
If someone calls you “dear” in a conversation, would you take it as flirting, or is it just a friendly way of addressing someone?
Does it depend on the person, their tone, or the context?
For example, if someone you've just met online starts calling you “dear,” would you think they're interested in you, or wouldn't you read too much into it?
I'd love to hear your opinions and experiences!

Work Are there people in their fifties who can work physical jobs?
I ask because I work physical jobs right now at age 35. Weight training and fitness are my passions. But I'm afraid I'd be too feeble to work physical jobs in my fifties despite working out regularly but also being too stupid to work intellectually demanding jobs. If that happens, I'm screwed and will be homeless.
Is there hope for me who wants to keep working physical jobs all the way to my fifties?
Thanks.
