Hated Tropes [HATED] Adaptations done intentionally without help from the source

Halo TV show: Before the show came out, the writers were praising their decision to not look to the games for inspiration when making the show

God Of War TV show: Chris Judge, the actor of Kratos in the games from 2018-Now, spoke up about his dislike on the show not hiring anyone who worked on any of the previous games. One of the original creators of Kratos also spoke up about them not having faith in the adaptation.

Supergirl 2026 film: the director for the film not only said he decided to not read Woman Of Tomorrow, the comic the film is adapting, because he wanted to do his own thing, he also didn’t look at comic art for inspiration to design Lobo and instead used an AI image generator to design Lobo’s look for the film

This is an awful example. Judge, as nice as the guy might be, has an awful opinion too. He thinks Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson should have played Joel and Ellie. His hearts in the right place but it has nothing to do with the show adaptation. Just because you were part of the games doesn’t mean you’re immediately useful for the adaptation. The games don’t even have the same writers the entire time, shifting new talent in and out.

The original creator (I’m assuming you mean Jaffe) is a fucking bitter old man who literally hates the entire series. He hates the Norse trilogy too and no one takes him seriously.

Cory Barlog / Santa Monica is stated to be heavily involved with the Amazon show similar to Todd/Bethesda with the Fallout show. We’ll see after it comes out but it’s a terrible example for this “trope”.

Yeah, the Supergirl thing isn't even true, it just gets touted everywhere. The director made sure he read the og comic book after he read the movie script so he could judge the two on their own terms rather than conflate the two.

Video game/comic fans and making shit up on the internet name a more iconic duo.

It’s completely off base, because Supergirl is more of an adaptation of True Grit than it is of Woman of tomorrow, and it is faithful to that, for better or worse
