miscellaneous Tropes that became problematic

The Persistent Suitor: A guy who is after the girl and just wont take no for an answer. Nowadays we just call stalking and harassment, but it used to be romantic. Example: The Notebook (2004), Noah asks Allie out while she's on a date with another man. She refuses, but he threatens to let go and fall unless she agrees to go out with him.

Comedic Woman On Man Violence: Mostly seen in anime, recently it has decreased a lot but years back every show had a woman hitting a guy and showed it as funny. Example: Toradora!, where the quintessential tsundere, Taiga, beats up the MC regularly.

Kid Bags Adult Baddie: I remember a few of these, sometimes it was to show how cool and awesome a kid was because an adult woman fell for him, now it's just seen as problematic shit. Example: Blank Check, the woman likes the kid and kisses him telling him to look for her in 10 years.

He does get a LITTLE better as the show goes on, but yeah...

If Inuyasha ever did get a reboot, and they wanted to keep Miroku's character development, I think they'd need to have him stop that behavior several seasons earlier, and play it more as the character flaw it is instead of as a gag.

But the gag is funny.

There are times when you need to realize a gag can influence children and impressionable young adults in real life. If it's detrimental, it's better to ditch it

Doesn't he always get slapped and treated poorly by women in the show though? It's definitely veiwed as a negative trait by everyone in the series.

Yeah and the depiction isn't necessary now. You can argue that getting slapped for being disrespectful is a good thing to depict, but that doesn't mean he should continue being disrespectful.

They don't even need to remove the "entirety" of his liking women to make it less problematic, either. If they want to include it as a reference to the original, it would work best if they kept the more egregious stuff contained to the 'entertainers' at the seedy roadside inns he frequented on his travels, where it could be considered much more consensual.

Outside of those, maybe the occasional flirt followed by repeated, but ultimately respected, rejections.

Also, give Koharu at least couple extra years in that specific story line...

Yeah just make him a healthier example. I get the gag but it just doesn't work anymore

Or just, you know, not editorialize someone else's work.

You when media fans critique some aspects of a piece of work they like

Feels like they distinctly dislike it tbh.

See, this is why I'm glad most anime studios don't listen to western fans.

I'm an Asian in Asia who thinks touching women's butts is not funny anymore. Don't be stupid

You being Asian changes nothing. JP studios should only listen to their actual audiences rather than people who wants to change their work because it's "problematic".

Judging on the popularity of the trope, sounds like you are in the minority. RIP

As they say, the show must go on!
