miscellaneous Tropes that became problematic

The Persistent Suitor: A guy who is after the girl and just wont take no for an answer. Nowadays we just call stalking and harassment, but it used to be romantic. Example: The Notebook (2004), Noah asks Allie out while she's on a date with another man. She refuses, but he threatens to let go and fall unless she agrees to go out with him.

Comedic Woman On Man Violence: Mostly seen in anime, recently it has decreased a lot but years back every show had a woman hitting a guy and showed it as funny. Example: Toradora!, where the quintessential tsundere, Taiga, beats up the MC regularly.

Kid Bags Adult Baddie: I remember a few of these, sometimes it was to show how cool and awesome a kid was because an adult woman fell for him, now it's just seen as problematic shit. Example: Blank Check, the woman likes the kid and kisses him telling him to look for her in 10 years.

I never liked Miroku as a kid because he was a perv and it made me super uncomfortable. Didn't eveb realise that was supposed to be some quirky thing.

This is going to sound racist, but it's just a Japanese thing. Groping and things like that are still issues to this day even in real life

Maybe, ignoring the elephant sized caveats in the room, New York is generally polled as safer than Tokyo (tho Tokyo is in 2nd place of the 16 city list beating London, Seoul, and Paris so they’re not bad at all), the amount of rail transit compared to other countries certainly doesn’t help either with 2nd place—y’know those very obvious epistemic caveats you’re thinking of, please ignore them—India being 1/3rd the ridership size.

The poll is by YouGov/Reuters, and I was introduced to it by Reuters, but Wefo actually listed the 16 cities and Reuters didn’t. I’ve critiqued the WEF in the past, I’d say they are directionally fine but you gotta check the methodology and try to have generally good sourcing / epistemic habits. Like I said, caveats I’m too tired to get into right now.

Admittedly, because you were responding to someone discussing groping (famously on public transit) I presumed you were primarily discussing for it specifically on public transit—with some jabs on… gestures broadly to the incumbent and his cronies—so I compressed what they said with what you wrote. My bad.
