Lore [very common Trope] A universally supposed Good thing turns out to be a Bad thing

1. The Hero defeating the Villain (Gameoverse): You'd think that after the defeat of the very evil Big Bad means the day is saved, right? Well, no. Because the day is about to end, along with your entire world, your friends and family, all because the hero did what they thought was the right thing.

2. Believing into Getting adopted to a new loving "Family" (The Promised Neverland): Hey, Sweetie. What's that? You think you're going to live with a new caring and family? WRONG. You're actually the next new meal to bunch of demons. Hope you're doing well in the next life.

3. The 'Great Beyond' (Sausage Party): same premise as the Promised Neverland. The food all think they going to a wonderful place called 'The Great Beyond', being treated as Nirvana and sees us as their Gods. Well... You all know what we do with food, right?

The Wizard of Oz?

That guy was not helpful

Well, he was helpful, just not quite as advertised.

Was he? He sent them on a dangerous mission and then rewarded them with meaningless trophies

The real reward was (literally) the friends they made along the way

He could have given them all what he wanted, but chose to make them kill the wicked witch first.

Which really makes no sense since he was leaving on the next hot air balloon out of town anyways.

It would only make sense if he couldn't leave until she was dead. But then why not give at least the lion his courage before hand.

He just gave him a medal right? He didn’t give him courage. If anything, the lion proved that he had courage all along by braving the witch’s castle. Same for the scarecrow and Tin Man with their requests

Wasn’t the point that the wizard was a fraud? He got the witch’s broom which had real power in exchange for garbage

It wouldn't have felt earned and thus ineffective. The wizard may be a sham, but he understands people's psychology.

Honestly, it's probably not a great idea to fly around in a slow, easily-punctured conveyance whose direction is at the mercy of the winds while there's an angry magic-user and her horde of flying minions around...

The rewards were meaningless but it made them believe they had those qualities
