Hated Tropes Stupid Contrived Survival Stories

  1. 12 Feet Deep - Two idiots decide they absolutely positively MUST go swimming in a pool after it's closed. An incredibly contrived sequence of events happens so they get stuck in a pool. So the movie can happen.

  2. Frozen (not that one) - Three idiots decide they absolutely positively MUST get on a ski-lift after it's closed. To the point of bribing the operator who for some stupid reason doesn't say anything. Do the movie can happen. Also, Wolves are not that aggressive. They are typically shy and avoid humans.

  3. 47 Meters Down- Arguably the most believable scenario on this list. It's still really stupid.

  4. Fall- Two idiots decide to climb an abandoned radio tower without proper equipment that would make escaping their predicament trivially easy. Stop me if you've heard this one before

so the movie can happen.

I wouldn’t call “stupid people doing stupid things” contrived. I’d say something like Primate. A couple teenagers have to survive a rabies infected chimpanzee, except the chimpanzee acts like he’s possessed by Chucky and not a rabid animal. That being said, 10/10 movie. No notes.

Every dangerous animal in any movie acts this way. Reminds me of this:

Really loving the mental image of a gorilla/5 black mambas just chillin shopping at a mall

Honestly all the gorilla has to do is stumble into the food court and you'll probably be fine. A majority of a silverbacks life is spent eating, walking to somewhere to eat and sleeping. Largely to conserve energy for when they actually have to do shit and possibly fight another silverback or a tiger

Dude'll just be busy munching on French fries and sleeping by the oven.

ya know fair point. With the black mambas it’d always be in the back of my mind that one of them, no matter how unlikely, is somewhere near me, because no way are you keeping track of 5 snakes the whole time

the gorilla? you’re going to know where the gorilla is.

With the mambas you can stand out in the open and pour oil around where you are. It might not work but I bet it would be really funny to see snakes struggling against oil

I for sure was reading this and thinking “oh wow I didn’t know snakes had an aversion to oi-oh, nope. Slipper snakes. Got it”

I’d get on a table with the mamba.

With the Gorilla, I’d make enough noise so it knows I’m there, avoid eye contact, act chill.
