miscellaneous Media Made to Prove the Haters Wrong

Tunak Tunak Tun (Daler Mehndi) Critics claimed his music videos were only popular because they featured attractive women dancing. Mehndi responded by making a music video featuring nobody except multiple green-screen versions of himself. It became a massive hit and his most famous song.

Five Nights at Freddy’s - Scott Cawthon previously made a family-friendly game called Chipper & Sons Lumber Co. Critics complained that the characters looked like creepy animatronics. Rather than abandon that visual style, Cawthon decided to turn them into an actual horror game using scary animatronics.

Superman Kingdom Come - Mark Waid and Alex Ross were reacting to the 1990s trend of increasingly violent, cynical superheroes.

Their story deliberately challenged the belief that traditional superheroes like Superman were outdated. It portrayed the consequences of abandoning heroic ideals and argued that compassion, restraint, and morality were still essential to superheroes.

Hell, one of the complaints people have about the series is that it moved away from the creepy animatronic style into a plastic shell robot style.

Honestly that complaint has existed since fnaf 3, you can only take animatronic horror so far before it just becomes robots

FNaF 2, actually. A lot of folks were disappointed with how toony the Toy animatronics were.

It just got way worse when Sister Location hit and people realized that it was becoming a thing. I'm very much in the disappointed group; FNaF 1 had a great uncanny vibe that was almost immediately abandoned.

Fnaf 2 still had the withereds and sometimes the toys still had that vibe but fnaf 3s springtrap was just overboard. Having fnaf 4 following that with the nightmares which was the farthest from the original vibe fnaf had

Sure, but it was the plastic shell style that felt like abandoning the animatronic thing. The uncanny vibe was gone, but it still felt... somewhat relevant?

Once you hit SL they stop feeling like they're even trying to be animatronics, instead being outright robots.

I mean plastic animatronics are a real thing. The obvious one is billy Bob is probably the most popular one but he's only partially plastic but there were just flat out plastic shell animatronics

Yeah, but they're not the kind that kicked off the franchise. The incredibly unsettling furred kind.

If the plastic had still been unsettling, it wouldn't have been a problem, but... they just weren't. They don't look like animatronics. They look like plastic toys, and I'm not just talking about the actual Toys.

Dolly from SotM is actually the exception, funny enough. She still doesn't quite hit the uncanny vibe, especially since she's designed to be doll-like, but she does at least look like an animatronic. The awkward, jerky movement is pretty important for getting that across.

I used to be one of these people, however in hindsight, the SL models are among the creepiest for sure
