Characters (Fun tropes) It took a non mainline version to add this feature to the character.
Sephiroth's iconic one wing came from Kingdom Hearts. Not from the original FF7. Despite his theme being "one winged Angel", and while his Greater form has a sort of wing, og base Sephiroth never had an actual angel wing. Now Sephy is always seen with it.
Magneto's Helmet blocking telepathy. It came from the movies. Despite the fact that Magneto would know exactly how Xavier's abilities work and there being a precedent helmet that blocks telepathy (Juggernaut), the X-men movies were the first to add. Now it's pretty common thing for Magneto.

I headcanon that the 90s cartoons are canon to Classic Sonic, who introduced chilli dogs to Modern Sonic during Generations.

But doesn't Tails give him a chili dog as a birthday present in the opening scene before they even meet classic Sonic?

Dr. Eggman's formal last name as Robotnik was formally added in Sonic Adventure 1. Before then, Sega of America called him Dr. Robotnik and Eggman was never used.

A huge amount of the Superman mythos came from the cartoons and radio show. Best two examples are Superman flying (the Fleischer cartoon) and Kryptonite (radio show)

Primus, the creator-god of the Transformers and opposite of the dark god Unicron, originated from the Marvel UK comics but was soon incorporated into the US comics when UK writer Simon Furman was brought over to take over from Bob Budiansky. Eventually Primus became part of all Transformers mythos in some form or another.

Ah, Simon Furman and Bob Budiansky, the two names that spontaneous have the voice of a chipper Irish man playing in my head. Only beaten in volume by a third, other name.

Pit’s entire modern design, including the “bow splitting into two swords” was from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The fact that Sakurai also made the only Kid Icarus game to come out after Brawl certainly helped codify it.
King Dedede’s Jet Hammer is also from Brawl and didn’t appear in a Kirby game until Super Star Ultra.

Water(and a few others) were originally Fan contest winners that were only added to the Games way later on after being used in the Show's late season 2 Parter

Also, I haven't played KH, but I don't think I've seen his base form with a wing anywhere. In spite of being "always seen with it."
He does grow one sometimes when leaving his base form.

I think they're kind of correct in that KH was the first time he had a separate wing in addition to his arms. In FF7 in believe the wing replaces his arm.
I mean he's still a One Winged Angel but KH did change the look.

The beta for Smash 64 originally used an OG character named the Dragon King who used Dragon Punches. Sakurai didn't expect to get to use Nintendo characters.
When it was approved, he reused the Dragon King into Samus and Captain Falcon - two characters with mostly realistic proportions. The Dragon Punch was converted to a Falcon Punch and the rest is history.

Off topic anytime I think of sephiroth I think about that robot chicken ff7 fast food restaurant sketch and sephiroth saying “I need you to work this Saturday” and cloud responding with “but I have lakers tickets” (iirc) and I laugh lol

I always remember the ending with the destroyed restaurant and Barret appearing.
Barret: What the f@$&!?

That whole sketch is gold. One of the npcs in line even kinda jiggles a bit, like it can't decide which direction to face.

Yeah, couldn't he originally just jump over buildings?

In a single bound, he was also stronger than a locomotive and faster than a speeding bullet.
He was basically a big strongman (hence the visual reference).

So his actor could get a vacation.
1
u/Great-and_Terrible 6h ago
That parts a myth, actually. The actor never had a vacation around the time they introduced Kryptonite and they were reusing a concept from an unpublished 1940s story "The K Metal from Krypton".

Sephiroth's "wing" is seen in the OG. -However, as a silhouette on his shadow as he descends to do the stabby stabby.

There are plenty of examples of this in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but what might be the biggest is the colors of the Turtles' bandanas. In the original Mirage comics, the Turtles all wore red bandanas, so the only way to tell them apart was by their weapons. When adapting the comic to an animated kids' cartoon, the Turtles were given unique bandana colors - Leo was given blue, Donnie was given purple, Mikey was given orange, and Raph got to keep red. This change has persisted across all versions of the TMNT since.

He has his wing in his final boss form actually, it is just the one people likely know him more for is from KH.
2
u/Elyced32 5h ago
No what he means is when he is just in his regular form, in the original he only ever had the wing when he was in his final form anything after he always had a wing outside of his final form because of kingdom hearts’ version of his design
15
u/Mastodon_Butt 1d ago
Good thing the wing was still added by square, would've been awkward otherwise.

I still have yet to actually read a magneto comic but what did he do about the telepathy problem pre helmet? Did he just like die?
11
u/Chaosmusic 1d ago
In the really early comics, he had his own version of telepathy. Around the 80s it switched to him just having extraordinary willpower which gave him some resistance. A lot of times in the comics, Charles was too far away to directly use his power on Magneto, he was mainly using it to allow the X-Men in the field to communicate directly with each other and coordinate their attacks.

Depended on the writer. I recall comics where strong magnetic fields by themselves were disruptive to psychic powers, sometimes it just affected Cerebro (which was Xavier's main way of communicating with the X-Men in the field). And a lot of times, Xavier himself just refused to use his powers for more than communication. I remember reading Ultimate X-Men and a plot point was resolved by Charles straight up brainwashing a dude. Turned me off of the series.

No, in the comics his helmet literally blocks telepathy. I remember reading a marvel story guide in like 1999 where they talking about this, and then they even had a whole section about how he taught the juggernaut how to make the helmet, and he had not one but two god damn layers of anti-telepath armor on his stupid head.

I don't think the point about Magneto is correct. Pretty sure it was at least in the 90s animated series.

The AllSpark wasn't even a concept in Transformers until the 2007 movie. Since then, it's become a staple in various Transformers media.
