I may be against ai and robots in general, but if mankind were to build love bots instead of killbots, then I think a lot of world problems would be solved. A lot of the motivation behind evils that lead to the greed that rules the world is the intent to use power to gain women. If people like that could literally design their perfect sexual partners, have them programmed to be exactly the type of personality they want? I do believe that would suppress a major population of sexually violent people. Not all of them, but enough to make it a worthwhile endeavor.

The more affordable, the better. As we see in this thread, people will be more than happy with stuff that isn't even super human looking.

It fits. The mix of mechanical details and the humanoid shape is what makes the reaction predictable every time one of these shows up.
