Characters (Loved trope) Thar robot doesn't have the right to be that hot

SCORPIO - Star Wars

Elesh Norn - Magic The Gathering

Wagon - Toqger

And i'm talking about robots that actually look like robots. Not "androids" with perfectly human looks.

The Robot from the 1927 movie Metropolis....

It did turn into the evil version of the heroine but that was part of the plot...

Without the Maschinenmensch, there’s no C-3PO. She danced so he could totter.

The sheer costume design that went into that... in 1927!

Definitely - The actress who played her said it was very hard to move around in...

Built out some form of wood I think...

It's funny how this doesn't look that different from a behind-the-scenes of a modern film with an actor in heavy prosthetics.

Because it's an actor in prosthetics right?

It's a bit like a feat boy toga party looks like ancient Rome.

She looks like a gender bent Robocop. Alexa Murphy, probably.

It was so much easier to get away with effects like that before color.

It certainly is - When the news broke that they had found a more or less complete copy in Argentina albeit in a damaged state and the news was that they had restored the footage to add into the restored blu-ray restoration I had to get myself a copy...

This new version of the movie is now more or less the film that premiered in 1927.... There are a few scenes still missing that they couldn't restore from the Argentinian footage. There are nearly 30 minutes of restored new footage...

She is the mother of all robots in sci-fi film and, as far as I'm aware, the first true gynoid.

Her name is Maria, if you didn't know.

I thought it was Futura

Cool, my memory is bad at times and I hadn't watched the movie in over decade so makes sense I'd misremember something

I think there are some versions out there that change it to differentiate between the woman Maria and the robot, but IMHO it loses the impact of the end that way.

I mean I'd agree, Futura is a fun name but Maria and false Maria are much more meaningful

Huh...I wonder is Scorpio takes design inspiration from this? The resemblance is uncanny.

Pretty sure SCORPIO and by extension the GEMINI series droids did take inspiration from Metropolis
