Steven Universe- Say Uncle

In the episode, Steven needs Unlce Grandpa to help him learn to summon his shield. Despite Uncle Grandpa and the creators of the show both saying the episode isn't cannon, Steven has full control over his sheild from this point on.

Alao the "You should polish this twice a year" thing with steven"s gem being a diamon and not a quartz

This was a joke they made as well. When askedhow this was possible UG says "This isn't canon. But this is!" And then shoots himself out of a cannon iirc

Non canon status gets weird when mechanics change

I feel like Steven flicks the old pearl more than twice a year.

There's a bit in The Sopranos where Furio asks Big Pussy about the phone card scam and Big Pussy explains it to him

At this point in the show, Tony's been told that Pussy's a rat, but he doesn't believe it

When Pussy explains the scam, he does it perfectly. He doesn't hesitate, repeat himself or go back cos he forgot a step. He doesn't swear or use any slurs. Exactly like he's explained the scam multiple times before, and the only reason he'd be explaining it repeatedly is if he was co-operating with the Feds and explaining it to them. Tony doesn't say anything, and he never brings it up, but the way he looks at him says he knows.

Wait. I haven't seen the show in a while, but wouldn't pussy know enough about the scam to explain properly anyway? Oh, you mean like Tony is suspecting that the fed's 'proper talk' is rubbing on Pussy? I missed that. And I don't recall if Tony's 'happy screaming' was meant to be sincere, or he's shutting down his guilt?

There's a difference between knowing how something works and putting it into a proper, easily understood set of words.

When you first explain things there's times when you realize you forgot to mention some important context or detail and you're forced to back track.

And the way they usually talk is "you find some fuckin (racial slur)..." and he doesn't do any of that

I thought it was more that he is explaining it clearly because he’s wearing a wire

I thought he was being careful to explain it clearly because English wasn't Furio's first language.

I know writers who use subtext, and they're all cowards

(My Hero Academia season 6)

In an episode that shows the entire messed up past of the Todoroki family there is this scene when Endeavor looks at Rei with disdain after his anger and frustration build up over the course of the episode as Rei fails to deliver a baby with both fire and ice and then it cuts to Shouto's birth. It could be just a scene left for interpretation but still it's a dark little detail that likely implies that Shouto is a child born from marital rape

In Cloverfield during a flashback scene, in the background (the kids filming don’t even notice) you can see an alien pod crashing into the ocean. You need HD and good eyes to catch it. Also in the post-credits scene, if you play the spooky voice that says “Help Us” backwards, it says (even more clearly) “Still Alive” implying the government bombings only made the monster more angry.

Better Call Saul

The biggest reveal of the series is shown to the audience in such a subtle way many people actually missed it.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

S4E1 reveals to the audience exactly what “Saul Goodman” is to Jimmy.

In the previous season Jimmy pulled a scam on Chuck in order to get Chuck’s liability insurance cancelled. This started a domino effect on Chucks mental health which eventually resulted in his suicide.

Then in S4E1 right after Chuck has killed himself Jimmy is completely distraught. He barely speaks a word the entire episode, doesn’t even speak at his funeral. He is clearly depressed and confused.

At the end of the episode Howard Hamlin comes over to Jimmy and Kim’s place and confesses he feels responsible for Chuck’s death because he pushed him out of the firm after Chuck’s insurance got cancelled.

The second Jimmy hears about the insurance he snaps into “Saul Goodman” mode. He stands up tall, acts peppy, cracks jokes, feeds his fish while laughing and even lets Howard take the blame for Chuck.

As soon as Jimmy realized it was his own fault his brother died instead of processing the feeling he just switched to Saul Goodman. This was the first big indication to the audience that “Saul Goodman” is a coping mechanism Jimmy’s uses to escape guilt and trauma.

Another great example is Walt taking on the habits of people he killed, like eating the crusts off his bread after Krazy-8

I don’t think that’s what that scene is communicating in the sopranos

What is your interpretation. Feels like he finally realises life is an absurd joke

22

u/Living_Ad7526 2h ago

Yes, he embraces true nihilism and decides he can just pursue his own hedonism without any moral consequences.

He’s on psychedelic drugs that can make anything feel like a profound realization, and after this episode he immediately succumbs to the same flaws and misery that plague his life.

To me it was his joy in not having to hide the fact that he was a monster and the fact that he’s happy he murdered Chris. He never shares this with anyone else

Is no one here linking this moment to the beacon? Because this moment is linked to the beacon.

Throughout his coma dream, Tony sees a flashing beacon on the horizon. He never quite finds out what it is, only that it’s near the barrier that separates life from death.

In this scene, he watches the sunrise and finally feels as though he understands the meaning of that moment in the dream.

However, this episode is also developing the idea that Tony’s insights are facile.

u/Dull-Psychology-1798 28m ago

He tries to explain the realization to Melfi and says that there’s more in reality than everything we see and experience. That’s the opposite of nihilism imo

The entire show has been about Tony’s mental problems. Those don’t just go away with someone having an epiphany. More likely is Tony is having a manic episode where he feels on top of the world and like he’s cured (a not uncommon thing for people with these conditions to feel) but these are temporary. I’ve never understood people who think Tony is magically cured and he’d never have these issues again cause nothing in the show relays that to us other than Tony’s interpretation and Tony has always been a dishonest narrator when it comes to himself.

16

u/SmellyLoser49 2h ago

I also like how people say after this scene "he never has another panic attack again". And like yeah, no shit, cause he's gonna get whacked like three episodes later

2

u/StableSlight9168 1h ago

I agree in part that tony is not getting better but that episode is the moment he stops trying. He knows he's evil but a lot of his issues came from his mild morality struggling with things.

He just murdered his surrogate son and felt nothing.

Yeah he's not fixed but that moment is when he gave up trying.

3

u/nopethatswrong 1h ago

I’ve never understood people who think Tony is magically cured and he’d never have these issues again

The whole show has been about him grappling with his mental health and assuming it's the morality of his life that's causing the issues, but when he has a happy day after killing Chris and things are more or less unchanged he realizes he is the sociopath he's been trying to convince himself and everyone around him he isn't, and that he's just fucked up.

Maybe that means trying to be moral/dropping the internal contradiction will stop the anxiety attacks, but my interpretation is that he's just accepting that he's exactly who everyone who knows him thinks he is. Not necessarily that he's been cured, but accepting that there's nothing to cure.

In the game Scarlet Hollow, there is a plant you can notice in the background at one point. If you did, something you encounter later will immediately and radically change your perception of what's going on, and of one central character.

Sybil has castor plants in the back room of her store. You later find that Dr. Kelley is making the "medicine" she's (lightly) poisoning Reese with out of castor. This has two levels of reveal to it: no matter what, it becomes immediately apparent that Sybil knows exactly what's going on with Reese and has provided this "solution", which puts her Kindly Old Lady routine into serious doubt. But if you've had some of her tea, the most notable thing is that your character *doesn't recognize the plant,* even if they commented on it when they saw it at Sybil's. One of the main things about Scarlet Hollow is that it keeps track of pretty much everything you do, and it all has relevance at some point; there is no way your character noticing the plants but not being able to say so is an oversight. That makes it upsettingly clear that something is directly altering their/your memory when it comes to Sybil.

Which adds some enjoyable dramatic irony, because your character will continue to not notice anything strange while you are increasingly freaking out, which means they get blindsided by something YOU saw coming since the previous chapter.

u/WritingTheDream 1h ago

How can you not expect spoilers in nearly every post in this sub?

-1

u/purblepale 1h ago

??? yeah i expect them and i also expect them to be tagged like they usually are i was watching both of these shows

u/WritingTheDream 7m ago

I have never seen a post with a spoiler tag in this sub. I just assume there will be spoilers for whatever story is mentioned. How else can someone talk about tropes?

Don’t tell me you read the Sopranos spoiler and then continued to read the breaking bad part without expecting a spoiler. If you did, that’s 100% a you problem.
