props to Mark Vreeken, recorded & mixed ‘Live’

Post image

Live albums don’t always sound the greatest for some reason. Mark Vreeken did a great mix capturing the Hip on the final tour

Is that the Bruce Dickinson from iron maiden?

Wiki: Bruce Dickinson, an executive at MCA Records, discovered The Tragically Hip during a live showcase in Toronto in late 1988.

Dickinson wanted more cowbell, but Gord put the kibosh on it.

Did an amazing job on Phantom Power. All the other Dolby mixes seem like a glorified stereo mix, with the PP Dolby copy you can actually hear details that you wouldn't pickup on a stereo mix otherwise. Would love an interview on his process with these albums.

Mark was the Hip's sound engineer forever, so no one really knew how to dial in the Hip's sound like Mark. He is an awesome guy too.

Props to Mark. There’s a great mix of the live arena sound with some great stereo separation.

Still wish they'd give the correct dates for the tracks though

In the liner notes the dates are wrong?

Some of the cities. It says Escape is from Kingston but they didn't play it there
