Found this at a local shop

Post image

Found this CD at local shop along with a bunch of others that were all in these cartridges. Seems like the cartridges were for radio broadcasting, so the DJs could play the discs without having to handle the actual disc.

It's their first release from 1987. And "EP" with 8 songs.

Wondering if maybe it's a radio station specific disc. It says CAPAC beside each track. Maybe put there to let them know that it was Canadian content. Maybe that was on all the discs at the time. Seems odd though. If someone has the regular release let me know if this is just the regular disc. Cool find either way.

CAPAC became SOCAN, they collect and distribute artists royalties. Since the EP was released in 1987, it was under CAPAC that their songs were registered and before SOCAN becoming the copyright collective for Canada.
In the USA, it would be either ASCAP or BMI.

I found an e-bay listing and looking for differences in the disc, the label seems to be exactly the same, but the etching on the inner ring of mine has the text "MFG BY CINRAM" which doesn't seem to be on the one in the e-bay listing.

It does say manufactured by CinRam on both copies, the one you found is in a jewel case off a random CD, likely the original tray was lost.
CinRam was or is the pressing plant for MCA, if I remember EMI Canada used CinRam, as well.

The ebay listing says Manufactured By Cinram on the black text in the label, but not etched on the inner ring.

Looks like the standard first run CD released in 1989.  https://www.discogs.com/release/32764380-The-Tragically-Hip-The-Tragically-Hip

CINRAM manufacturing codes line up.

I was doing some digging on discogs yesterday and thought that it looked about right by mine didnt have the black band around the outside. Looks like they had a bunch of different reprints with the same code so its probably just one of those. Not all of them have images of the disc
