Now for Plan A Turned 14 Yesterday!

Post image

A very underrated Hip album if you ask me, that holds two of my favourite all time Hip tunes, We Want to be It and the title track. What did you think on release day? Has the album warmed to you overtime?

We Want To Be It is a top song for me. One of Gord’s best vocal deliveries in my opinion. Love the chorus.

Quite frequently I'll be thinking about nothing in particular and find myself saying 'drip drip drip.' It's easily in my top 5 Hip tunes!

Was fortunate enough to hear them play this live before it was released and loved it - especially the drip drip drip lyric - it was raining at the time too.

Remember looking forward to see if/when they were going to release that drip drip song.

The lyric has worked it's way into my vocabulary too.

It's catchy. When my son was young he'd say " play the drip drip song"

I was at the surprise gig for the CD launch in Kensington Market.

I got to meet the band after the show and they all signed the CD case.

Gord signed my CD. Scratched out the title and wrote “chunkylover53’s blues” on it.

I now use the image for my iTunes playlist.

A couple really good songs off this one, but j need to revisit it for sure. My favorite is probably Goodnight Attawapiskat. Caught the Moncton show February 2013 on the tour supporting this record. Got one of Rob's picks he flung while playing this song - he tossed it as he started playing the solo, and I watched it bounce off the stage between the stage and the barrier. Got a security guards attention and asked if he could grab it for me. He acted like he was going to keep it at first, but it was all in jest and he ultimately did give it to me. Still have it.

At Transformation first and then Grace, Too second was a really cool way to start off the show. Song had a lot of energy.

Streets Ahead, Man Machine Poem and The Lookahead are all great tunes, as well. Thanks for the reminder on this one!

The version of At Transformation on the recent live album of the last tour goes particularly hard, I think

I had fallen away from the Hip for a while, but this album pulled me back in. Not their best, but far from their worst.

Whenever a man
tries to be more like a machine
he breaks down
And
Good evening folks we are the silver poets here in our thousand mile suits

Yeah this is a solid album

At Transformation is a top Hip song for me so it’s definitely my favourite off this album

Has some good tunes - At Transformation, really like Streets Ahead, We Want To Be It (which was incredible to hear Gord sing live), The Modern Spirit. I like the final album more in terms of their output in this era but I got to see them in Halifax on this tour and that rocked.

Funnily enough, I've heard from a few people here that hearing We Want to Be It live locked them back in to Hip fandom. It is a ripper! I really like a version of the title track with Sarah Harmer that's on Youtube, too.

He always got so into it, full body heaves and he’d do the mic kick stand bit a lot during it too. Gonna have to check that version out! Thanks for the heads up.

Awesome and under rated album. Man I don’t like the album art though, lol. Maybe it’ll grow on me in another 14yrs

“Lookahead,” “Man Machine Poem,” and especially “Modern Spirit” (which should have been a single!) are bangers. The rest, okay. But decent album, overall.

My wife and I were there for the album release at the Supermarket.

She belted out the lyrics to Streets Ahead point blank to Gord's face. He kind of shook his head and was either impressed, disgusted, or both.

I agree to it being underrated. I love the whole thing front to back.

Sarah Harmer's cameo on Now For Plan A is great

There are a few good tracks on this but this one is a slog for me to listen to the entire thing.

Yeah, bit of a stinker for sure

Excellent album and songs - Gord really belts the vocals on this one -

but I'm not a fan of the mixing/mastering. It's not terrible per se but it's really squashed, not as dynamic as it should be, sounds a bit bright and thin in areas. Take the lush sound production of The Depression Suite and apply it to these songs please. Unfortunately this is the one that will be less likely to get a remaster but it's the one that would benefit the most from it.

That being said, I still play it often.

So underrated! It made me realize the band does not have one bad album

It dropped in the worst part of my divorce, and I didn't appreciate it. I should really go back and try it again,

I get that this post is appreciating the album's overlooked features, but it is easily their worst album, and it's not close.

We Want to Be It is my third favorite behind Three Pistols and Emperor Penguin. They played a show in Buffalo under the skyway and it was the first time I heard it. It was before the album. For the next 3 weeks I just kept mumbling drip, drip, drip. So many relatable lines. Maybe it’s 2 over Emperor Penguin. Doesn’t matter. It’s 3 Pistols and then those two next.

"Done and Done" is a great chill song to vibe to

Might be my least favourite of the catalogue. Goodnight Atiwapiskat and at transformation are dope though.
