season 4 of G1 was cancelled in the west, but it was still made for the japanese audience.

u/Rauispire-Yamn Nov 04 '25
That was the Headmasters show right?

u/shreyas_varad Keep on truckin' Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25
yeah, its the "five faces of darkness" but not a five-parter XD

u/Maleficent_Time_2787 Nov 04 '25
Five faces of darkness was the five parter that started season 3
You're thinking The Rebirth

Actually I think it was instead that Japan didn’t air the rebirth and they made the headmasters instead, kinda the other way around in terms of which came first

This show cant be legally released because the rights are a jumbled mess(despite the fact hasbro should have it back)
12
u/RevvEmUp Nov 04 '25
Can you elaborate?
38
u/lordhellfire9130 Nov 04 '25
The dub was originally done by saban brands, which all its assets were sold to disney, which was sold back to saban, then finally to hasbro. RID 01 fell through the cracks somewhere in that mess, and till to this day, you can't legally stream it nor have an officially dvd release besides a complete set from the uk ages ago.
10
u/Lucas-O-HowlingDark Nov 04 '25
Wasn’t Power Rangers the only thing sold back to Saban? Disney retained everything else they bought
Disney probably doesn’t even know about it, otherwise it would be on Disney+ no doubt
1
u/Lord_Toademort Soundwave: Superior Nov 06 '25
Everything Saban handled is kinda a mess of rights. But hey, Saban himself is doing well I guess
1
u/Admirable-Safety1213 Autobot Nov 07 '25
PR and the deal to dub more Digimon but the only dub done sinc ethem has been basically fully ignored by Bandai and the TCG had been using JP terminology for Xros Wars
1
u/Admirable-Safety1213 Autobot Nov 07 '25
Saban, not Saban Brands, Saban Brands was the one made in the early 2010s for the Neo-Saban era

You either get cancelled or run long enough to get a bad sequel series.
36
u/Illustrious-Wolf-737 Potato Head Prime Nov 04 '25
Or both
22
u/Ok-Inevitable3458 Nov 04 '25
What series does both apply to?
53
11
u/Roisepoise101 Nov 04 '25
Beast wars
7
u/Ok-Inevitable3458 Nov 04 '25
From what I can find it wasn't cancelled it just met the episode quota it was given.
10
u/Roisepoise101 Nov 04 '25
Apparently they were plans for a fourth season taking place in space that never happened, because Hasbro wanted to move on and do a sequel series instead.
There were also plans to do another beast era series after Beast Machines called “Transtech”, but that got scrapped after beast machines underperformed.
4
u/Ok-Inevitable3458 Nov 04 '25
I mean I'm pretty sure there's always back up plans for everything, I think something is only considered a cancellation if outside factors cause the show to end early, and Hasbro seemingly planned for Beast Wars to end when it did because a new toyline was going to be made.
Though looking into it it seems there were also some massive communication gaps between Hasbro and the writing team on how long the series would last. It also seemed to contribute to why Tiger Hawk's appearance was so last minute, since apparently the team were told to kill him off quickly because his toy wasn't going to be sold, only for the toy actually come out.

u/StevemacQ Yum JAam Nov 04 '25
Unicron Trilogy wasn't cancelled but it deserves a better dub, especially Energon.
33
u/Ignisking Nov 04 '25
Energon deserves a whole new productivon with the same lore
8
u/StevemacQ Yum JAam Nov 04 '25
It definitely deserves a do-over or at least have Kicker and Misha appear in the Skybound comics.
1
u/CrownClown74 Nov 07 '25
Cybtertrons dub is amazingly cheese in fact its the one id actually consider to be pretty good all around, the dubs for armada and energon are straight worse then the sub tho. Armada is WAY better in sub
1
u/StevemacQ Yum JAam Nov 07 '25
I'm sure Cybertron is way better but Energon/Superlink deserves so much better. I'm not into the whole sub vs dub shit-fling-fest but I hate how we were denied a better (or at least a more fleshed-out) story with stuff like:
Kicker was a punk teenager in Superlink but turned into a whiny little bitch in Energon.
Misha telling Alpha Q how she cherished the times with her parents to connect with them being replaced with generic motivational speech in "Each One Fights".
The scene of Kicker, Misha and Ironhide/Roadbuster silently mourning Alpha Q's death in the rain being cut from the episode "Optimus Supreme".
An entire episode "Return! Our Scorponok" was cut altogether.
More complete animation in Superlink that was missing from Energon.
I wish that version of the anime got a good dub and even an OVA epilogue to tie up loose ends.
Oh well.

u/Admirable-Safety1213 Autobot Nov 07 '25
Thats the Dreamwave art, the comic was cancelled because Hasbro didn't renew the locense and then DW went down
1
u/StevemacQ Yum JAam Nov 07 '25
Oh! Sorry about that.
We can all blame Pat Lee because he was too busy not paying his workers by buying a Porsche.

Wait wait, the beast era had a proper ending and no unfinished plots, I don't think Transtech not happening means it was cancelled.
Animated also kinda got a proper ending with the autobots winning and Megatron captured.
One and Bayverse are not series so count them out.
Also Earthspark has been cancelled
7
u/Lucas-O-HowlingDark Nov 04 '25
Earthspark isn’t confirmed over yet, there was a leaked production timeline for the transformers franchise regarding product releases, media releases for shows and comics, etc
And additional parts of Earthspark were on it, it’s not officially canceled until they say it is.
2
u/scottishdrunkard Nov 04 '25
You sure? Becuase Season 3 really felt like "back half of Season 2 we cut in half to meet a contracturally obligated three seasons"
With Cyberworld being "incumbent" and Hasbro kneecapping the show, safe to say it's cancelled.
And those leaked production timelines (seriously, show me) often tend to be out of date, like when Insomniac's was leaked.
1
u/Lucas-O-HowlingDark Nov 21 '25
Well well well, 16 days later and reality it has become lol
1
u/scottishdrunkard Nov 21 '25
Look, I'm just as surprised as you. Hasbro were essentially off the hook with this one, and they had no reason to come back for a two part finale. And yet, they did anyway, I don't even think they have merch for this release, it's entirely for the fans.
The only way it could have been better was if they got the original animation studio, and not the cheap one they got for the second and third season
1
u/Lucas-O-HowlingDark Nov 21 '25
I think I heard someone mention they had a 4 season obligation with paramount so that’s why
3
u/scottishdrunkard Nov 04 '25
Beast Wars had an ending. Beast Machines... was kneecapped by Dan Didio. A ratier rat bastard than Rattrap himself.

to be fair, G1 went to shit by 1989. Animated was caused by Hasbro having their own network and TFP. TFOne was caused by Marketing. the live action movies post TF3 can stand on their own, and TLK made the least amount of money for the Live Action films

Say what you want, but Armada’s art style is completely unmatched when compared to every other series. I YEARN for another Transformers show with the same art style and vibe. I hope it happens in my lifetime, sincerely.

Rescue Bots is the only transformers show to have consistent quality across all of it’s seasons, it has the best human cast, and that’s all while missing the other half of the brand, aka Decepticons!
I’m just sad Academy was a shitty sequel

Fun fact: Armada, Energon, and Cybertron are all free on YouTube. However, it's not an official release like Transformers Prime or Beast Wars.

There were some episodes on the youtube channel for Armada but not for the others I think.

Neither was tf one’s sequel
Having no plans is different from canceling something
Movie Sequels do not come instantly in fact a sequel to anything doesn’t
Especially with companies as big as hasbro and paramount

Still the Japanese kept it going until 1990.

Okay this is just an educated guess on the Nexus events for every continuity (but I can think off the top of my head)
G1: not dying in the movie Animated: getting a fourth season One: getting a sequel Michael Bay: actually being f****** good. Aligned continuity: Prime animation being good Armada:
