Full tape on bandcamp now :)
A bit about the beat for anyone interested:
The spine of the track is made up from one country / Americana sample. Because that song was originally panned so wide i could split it into two L and R channels and kind of isolate the bass, guitar and slide w EQ and chops. This sample loops all the way through it just changes emphasis with EQ making it into “sections”
The drums were a super slow sample that is speeded up which gives it a light, small, chill feel.
The strings are two samples (one long note each). Then I duplicate them and used Little Alterboy (free pitch plugin). To make them kind of bend or sweep and harmonise. I find you can get away with some horrible pitch bend if you put a big reverb after it. They sound really awful w the reverb off. Still a little jank but we work w what we got right.
The piano and wurly etc section is loads of keys samples chopped and pitched to make like a broken melody.
The spoken word section -I never know where these are from cos they’re always called like “screen recording 427” but it’s a girl in the 60s:
“This is my bag and..I found my place here and…I came to this house here and started cooking…I got my own room…and…I do my cooking, and I’m happy”
