The “justice” system.

You’re telling me I am required to follow every law no matter how niche or complicated it is but I can only answer legal questions by paying someone who charges more per hour than I make in a week?

Try being in a situation where you desperately need to sue someone for the most heinous act/s and you're told you need to fork out 90k for anything to happen. Justice system my ass

If they think you actually have a case they won't charge you up front. Asking for 90k was that attorneys way of saying no haha

Not all cases are for money. I had a noise issue I needed resolved and it cost me a bunch of money when I did nothing wrong n

They didn't ask me shit all about the case. They just didn't want to take on a university is my guess

Education

Health care

Dental care and psychiatry

Housing

Anything that you are forced to get a job for now to afford, or that you would give to our children to “give them a leg up in the world”. Give everyone a leg up

If education were free, our country would be so much better off, financially and in almost every other way.

How in the world do you figure housing should be free?

6

u/nickcan 2d ago

It doesn't need to be good housing, but everyone should be able to have a roof over their head and a safe place to sleep.

Especially in a country where the number of empty homes is more than double the number of unhoused people.

You could make an argument for "everyone needs to contribute" in a world of scarcity, but the level scarcity of food, housing, and clean water we experience is almost completely manufactured by the rich.

Let people build their own homes on the land. This was taken from us

Just give people the house lol it doesn't have to be luxury

We all should agree that pad and other menstrual stuff should be free. I'm shocked that no one think of that as women did not choose to have periods that hurts like hell.

In Germany:

  • public restrooms
  • getting your ID/passport renewed
  • legally changing your name
  • buying movie tickets online

In general:

  • water, electricity, internet, housing, 1500kcal daily of food. If a society cannot provide these for everyone, then what the fuck do we do all this society business for? I’m not too far left on the political spectrum, let rich people be rich and poor people be poor, but providing these core necessities for everyone should be the very point and purpose of the whole endeavor.

I also believe your health insurance company should cover gym/sauna/fitness, win-win for everyone.

And just for Karma:

  • palestine

water, electricity, internet, housing, 1500kcal daily of food ... I’m not too far left on the political spectrum

You're pretty far left if you want social programs of that magnitude for everyone. A more centrist approach is to provide social welfare to those who can't work, or have limited means to work, while maintaining a healthy economy that lets working people afford a basic, healthy lifestyle. The requirement is that people who can work should be required to work.

Welfare for those who need it, not those who just don't want to work.

Eh, left schmeft. I’m pretty annoyed at a lot of things the left-liberal parties are doing in my country. My own moral/political philosophy doesn’t put “equal opportunities to everyone” particularly high on the list of things a state should focus on, nor do I generally subscribe to a robin hood kind of lawmaking. I believe in majority politics.

I don’t feel that the state needs to make sure everyone lives well. I don’t think that’s a productive ideal. But I do think the point of the state is that everyone lives. Water, electricity, housing and base calories don’t lift anyone out of poverty or destitution. It just keeps one alive. That should sort of be the minimum standard for any community of human beings.

I wouldn’t say that’s particularly left. But I’m not US-American, and my standards are different. The US doesn’t have a political left. They have a ridiculous center-right party and a murderous pedophile Nazi party, and neither are particularly interested in politics.

Naw, that's only a crazy far left position in the USA. For most of the world that's a fairly centrist take on things.

3

u/WhipTheLlama 2d ago

Which countries provide water, electricity, internet, housing, and food to their entire population? None that I'm aware of. It's not a centrist take anywhere.

Not provides for everyone, I agree, that would be wild.

A position that the state makes sure that everyone has those needs met. It's not a extremist position that the government shouldn't let it's own citizens starve to death on the street. Setting a line at a certain quality of life that we won't let our people fall below is not a completely crazy platform in a lot of places.

Not saying that it actually gets done, but it's not a crazy position to take by any stretch.

The US is geared more toward individual liberty than most other countries.

•

u/nickcan 13h ago

That's one way to say it. Another way is that the US is more geared toward corporate profit over citizen's welfare than most other countries.

•

u/Designer-Wolverine47 8h ago

Their liberty to do that. Yours is to take care of yourself.

•

u/nickcan 8h ago

Yea, I know. Like I said, that is one way of putting it.

I have always considered that the purpose of representative government is to protect the citizens from the excesses of the elites, be they kings, nobles, or oligarchs. Now that's just how I see things.

Obviously there is another school of thought that said that the purpose of government is to get out of the way of elites and give them free reign to do business as they see fit.

I suppose that's what elections are for.

Air, Water, Power(electricity),

Selfsufficient, independent!

Why haven't we made devices that make people independent and selfsufficient, why all these services that make us dependent on them, to the point we have no choice at all but to pay what ever they will bill us?

We in Holland have every year the same shit. In summer we have too less water somehow, and in winter the gasprice goes up for some reason and we pay too much to even be able to use it. Imagine heating your house and you only need it 3 months of the year, and those 3 months you can't turn it on cause it's too expensive?

Then the water problem omg! How can this echoo year in year out without a solution other then to pay more and more for less and less?

We build the DELTA works for Godsakes, it took decades to build, cost trillions, but we did it, we kept the WATER OUT!

Now we need to do the same for our drinking water, 8 months of the year the water flows thru into the ocean, and then we need it and it;s gone?

MAke solutions for now and for our future generations! Solutions to the point they r FREE of charge!

There isn't a single item, product or resource that is or should ever be "free".

Every single thing exists in such a way that it requires investment, effort, labor or resources to produce. As well as time. None of those things are ever cost free.

Someone is always going to have to trade something for something else. Everything is a commodity.

To all of the other people on here and the things you want to give away for "Free" how does your government pay for those things if they have them already? If they don't have them, how do you plan to pay for them to make them free?

u/Zomni_83 1d ago

Exactly this.
