A friendly reminder that questions asked in this post must still follow TFAB rules. You may not ask if you are pregnant, you may not ask for pregnancy success stories, and you may not talk about a current pregnancy. No, not even in a sneaky, roundabout way.

Thank you!

Does a maximum 11 day luteal phase give earlier positives or is it still random?

In previous pregnancies I’ve always gotten a positive at 10DPO. My luteal phase has on the record never been longer than 11 days. Is there a reasonable chance I could get a negative on 10/11DPO, and a positive on 12/14DPO, like I assume some others do, based on the advice to wait to test until 12? I feel like I would already have started my period then, so the testing window is «over» for me.

The timing of a positive test depends on the embryo itself, not really on the uterine environment. So you’re not likely to get an earlier positive with a shorter-than-average luteal phase, except insofar as you do need implantation to happen at some point prior to a full bleed.

I’m 4 DPO and can’t find a solid answer to whether or not it’s safe to take a bath. I get not wanting to raise body temperature but wouldn’t a long hot shower do something similar? Can I not take a bath at all? I don’t really want to take one unless it can be warm.

EDIT: Thanks for the info. It looks like overall you want to keep your body temperature below 102°F so a warm or even hot bath should be fine as long as it’s not raising your body temp super high.

Are there better ways to prevent UTIs during the increased sex of ovulation-phase? I got a UTI in my last cycle just after I ovulated. I will say this one was probably my fault, i dont think i peed long enough afterwards (and tmi but i didnt put clothes back on before sleeping once, which idk if that impacted anything. But i usually wear cotton boxers to bed).

My husband and I shower before bed (our typical sexy time), the lube we use is pre-seed, and i do my best to pee right after. Ironically, the cycles we’ve done it in the morning or during the day, i havent had an issue. But i think i’m just sensitive overall because this isnt the first time, even when i’ve done everything right. Should i start taking a cranberry supplement or something?

It came a point where I was getting UTIs constantly… either after sex or just other factors and the one thing that’s changed it (not has one in about 3 years) has been taking probiotics! Obvs check if okay while TTC but highly recommend

Oh awesome! I had never thought about that. They have me eating yogurt like crazy since i started the antibiotics. I’ll look into a follow-up probiotic before i finish up. Thank you :)

Okay. I'm 7 days post 10 days of provera to induce a bleed. No bleeding. My cervix is high and soft, and i have been having plenty of fertile CM for the past four days. But my nipples hurt, which is usually a luteal phase thing for me. My temps are above my usual follicular temps, but below my usual luteal phase temps.

Any clue what's going on? I don't understand mechanically how it could take this long for provera to induce a bleed? And while I know you can have brief surges of fertile cm before the period - 4 days seems like a lot?

I had a thin uterine lining before starting the provera - was cd 23, no sign of ovulation, first cycle after a chemical. Negative HPTs as well

Woke up with a sore throat yesterday, took NyQuil without thinking last night at 2dpo. I'm in the clear, right, because implantation is still several days away if it occurs?

Would not worry about it!

Can you get pregnant on your period I've read in some places that there's a slim chance of it happening but I've never been good at research and don't know where to start, my partner and I want to try for a baby and I just got off my period but while I was on it we were trying anyways and I've always been kind of a worry wart when it comes to health stuff so i might be overthinking it alot

Yes.

You can get pregnant any time you have unprotected sex in the approximately six days leading up to and including ovulation day. If ovulation happens within about six days of your period, you can get pregnant from sex on your period.

Mine was delayed to CD20 (6 days) and period ran late too

It's very individual. My next ovulation was CD28 whereas my normal had been CD16/17. This cycle (the second following is the chemical) it was CD23.

After my chemical I ovulated 2 days earlier but I have also read about ovulation being delayed for some people

Anything’s possible, unfortunately. Even in a totally typical cycle, with no unusual factors, it’s possible to ovulate at a different time than you usually do. In a cycle after hormonal suppression (as in pregnancy/a loss, or birth control), it’s common for ovulation to be delayed, but not everyone experiences this.

How accurate are urine progesterone strips? Are false negatives common (blood progesterone at a level suggesting ovulation but the urine progesterone strips come back negative)?

What are the risks of fever of 101 or higher and viral upper respiratory infection around the time of implantation? (Assuming it's not the classic TORCH infections). Other than decreasing probability of conception, would that pose risks for development?

This is a dumb question but I’ll ask it anyway - when you ovulate, is it possible for the fallopian tubes to not catch the egg? Like the fimbriae just miss it and it falls into the abdominal cavity?

5

u/developmentalbiology MOD | 42 15d ago

Yes, it’s possible.

This is the reason it’s possible to have (rare, but very dangerous) abdominal ectopic pregnancies, where an embryo derived from an egg that was missed by the fallopian tubes, but found by a sperm, undergoes implantation somewhere in the abdomen. It’s also possible for the other ovary’s tube to grab the egg.
