Questions Spring semester question
I am a freshman right now in the fall semester and I’m really confused about when to make my spring semester schedule, I am a computer science BS so I don’t know when I should do anything. I also am wondering what the enrollment thing is, my Hub says my enrollment date is November 18th, and it doesn’t tell me much about what that is. Anyone have an answer for these two questions?

You should enroll your classes by ur enrollment date at 7 am. The earlier you can do it the better and the enrollment date is the time when you can enroll for your classes in the next semester.

Look up "UB SEAS Portal" and log into your portal. On the Portal, once logged in, choose "Academics" then "Flowsheet". This flowsheet will show you what you have left to complete your degree and list classes that can be taken to fulfill requirements such as stats classes and CSE electives. Start by going through that list and the schedule builder on hub to see what classes are available to take.

For your very first semester at UB, your academic advisor representing your major will register for classes for you. However, after the first semester, all college students have to register for courses by themselves, but you can still use your academic advisor listed on UB HUB as a resource. If you search up your specific major and program, the UB website actually has a recommended course sequence that each major can do, which includes the list of all required courses needed to satisfy your major requirements. The course sequence is constructed based on what's most common and most important. Here's the link for your specific major: https://catalogs.buffalo.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=21&poid=7950
You can use that link to help build your schedule, or at the very least, help draft an idea of what your schedule can look like.
For enrollment, that date basically means that it's the first day when you are eligible to enroll and register for courses. You don't need to enroll and register for courses on that day, but it's highly recommended because the earlier you register, the better, because students are more likely to be enrolled in the classes they want to be, but more importantly, in the times and sections of their preference. You register for courses in UB HUB, and you can find classes and build your schedule using schedule builder, with the link to do so also on your UB HUB account. For the timeline of enrollment, students have up until slightly before the next semester to enroll in courses, but again, the earlier the better.

Ok thank you very much, that explains basically all of it, one last question is that is it necessary or mandatory that I meet with an advisor on this?

Completely optional. You don't need to meet with your advisor at all, but it is encouraged, especially if you are having issues with your schedule or any other major specific problem.

Ok thanks again! I found it really hard to figure out what everything means from all the emails and stuff like that

No worries, and yes, I agree, because emails are constantly being sent out, it can be overwhelming to try to identify which emails are important or not. Best of luck in registering!

i recommend adding the classes you want to your shopping cart asap, on your enrollment date you don't want to deal with having to look for the ones you want since classes will already be getting filled quickly. you're gonna want a shopping cart of classes so that on the day you can just hit enroll in all of them and figure out the one or two that might be full already
